These so called spiritual teachings and the whole act of looking spiritual is quite ridiculous. The message is passed on, as always, as some sort of insightful truth, the speaker pausing at length between sentences as though to convey themselves as profoundly wise. There is nothing to be learnt from any of this since it is merely spoken about abstractly but never explained. All these concepts of presence etc. are a byproduct of doing internal emotional work on oneself over a long period of time, bringing yourself to total acceptance and peace. Talking about the aftereffects as though they are the cause themselves is just playing "Look at me, I'm a higher being". Simply sitting there trying to be part of the great nothingness is a temporary escape. Yes, we need peaceful moments to balance us but that's only part of the solution that makes us well balanced as individuals. It's a lot more complicated than silly concepts of a sort of blissful disengagement from oneself.

That’s a fairly jaundiced view, Gavin, of Johns 60 years of meditation, practice and experience. I am wondering if you’ve had an alternative experience. One of the remarkable things about John is that he has recorded his “Windows of understanding“ in 10 books now spanning 60 years experience. He never refers to other teachers other than Nature and the Bible. I am wondering who your teachers are? Phil
@gavinlynas2833
@gavinlynas2833 7 ай бұрын
@@SpiritualUnfoldmentYes it is and in my experience it's wise to resist the outer allure of something and look for the half-truths that supposedly explain the conclusion. John is a human at the end of the day and it is very likely enjoying the attention that he gets from all this. All these "spiritual" masters put on that same floaty act. You've got to be mentally floating in some sort of serene bliss in order to be whole and your true higher self. All you new age spiritual types just suck it all up because that's what you crave, because you're unable to embrace the darkness and full duality of life and can't find peace, seeking an escape, or you're attracted by the idea of being a master (special kind of person) because really you would like more attention. I know what motivates people on the most fundamental level and don't need a special teacher. Knowledge is just knowledge anyway. Emotional strength discipline is where the results happen. You'll get nowhere understanding the most profound of things. Actually I did read a Dr Phil book once and it was very grounding in what I would call a spiritually awakening way. The fact that you've mentioned him is telling of your disdain for cold hard truth.
