I was wondering what was the down side of allowing the chickens to lay eggs in the pig house? Besides the problem that you solved by beating the pigs to the eggs. I guess the chickens mess up the clean pig house.

My previous neighbor sold his property and was going to move into the city, Getting a little too old to be out in the praries so they offered to give me their Kunekune pigs, both of them are 2 years old, Max and dottie, both 430 pounds but they are American Kunekune's so they get bigger. At first i was worried cause i had No idea what i was getting into, I have 2 Belgian draft horses but they are mainly show horses because i Love how strong they are (they have also helped me pull a tractor out of a tight spot more times than i have fingers.) But once they got settled in, I Built them a stall next to the horses, they were super curious. I Have a Machine shop attached to the barn where i keep the animals so the barn is heated plus i have 5 dogs, 2 Russian caucasian shepherds and 3 Tibetan mastiffs so not small dogs by any means as none of them are under 200 pounds. Didn't think much of them at first but Max and Dottie they dont take any crap, Just before our first snow fall here recently they beat the crap out of an Adult black bear thinking he could get an easy meal, He regretted his choice very quickly. Even wolves, Max especially Does not like anything on his turf and What i love is they are best friends with all of the dogs so if they let out a squeel once the dogs come running and they know it and arent afraid to call for back up if they get in trouble while outside. Eventually i just took 3 of the stalls out of the barn cause the pigs and horses get along so well, even to the point where i will get in the shop and the dogs, pigs and horses will all be laying together. Problem is. Smart horses + Smart pigs = I get bamboozled a lot because the horses will tap on the walls with their front hooves while looking through the window if im in the shop, then if i so much as peek through that window and a pig sees me, i get verbally harassed until everyone gets a treat. 😒... Dottie has a Lysine problem so a treat i gotta give her is actually Chocolate Milk. Well because she gets some Max has taken a liking to it also so thats 2 galons of chocolate milk per month. They take some getting use to, but i Definitely love having them around. My food waste with the pigs + my fish? 0.0% I dont have a commercial farm by any means, I only have 7 acres and my primary income is from my machine shop so my animals are friends. Plus its pretty funny watching a pig scratch its butt on the corner of a door way then see a horse do the same thing because they learn't it from the damn pig!

That's really cool I have a little Kuni Kuni piglet and she lives in the house. And that is some very good information cuz I know nothing about Kuni Kunis. I've raised pigs all my life but never Kuni Kuni.

Ours are big babies, we are aware they'll get bigger, but want them happy and friendly as they grow. My only problem with them is they like chasing the buggy with the dogs, and we don't want them out of the yard where we keep them.

I'm trying to figure out the winter situation and keeping them warm and dry. I like your dog house for them, but we have an open oval enclosure that is useful for summers, but I think not so much for winters. Maybe I could put a temp dog house inside for them...

good info. we have started our little farm this year with Nigerian dwarf goats which we plan to breed & milk. chickens & 5 days ago we got our first 2 kunekune piglets. they both have different parents so we plan to breed them. we are thinking of getting another set so we have more options of breeding. how many do you have & how big of an area do you have them in?? we have our piglets with our buck goat right now. will be putting in another pen for pigs

Farm animals are not pets and especially "indoor" pets. Can we and should we have a great relationship with them? Yes, but it must be within reason and mostly for safety. In the end, it must "always" be understood that they are FOOD and will be butcherd as such.
