Great discussion. To me, any collector should always appreciate seeing all great cards. For me, a $200 card is a big card. So I love seeing the things I cannot and may not ever be able to afford. And I love seeing other collectors treasure those treasures, because that's what they are. Thanks guys!

As far as leftovers, spaghetti, every single time

Left overs? Meat loaf. Makes a great sandwich.

I mainly watch your videos for inspiration. Entertainment second😁. Am I envious? Of course. Am I jealous? No way! You have to collect what makes you happy. Otherwise, you need to reevaluate why you are even in this hobby. Great video guys!

I did not expect to hear my name mentioned here, but thank you for the compliment! Don’t worry, you got PLENTY of HOF Autographs I wish I had gotten already too Mike!

This awesome conversation makes me think of my first National in Atlantic City in 2022. All of these collectors sharing their National pickups, ranging from a few dollars to around 5-figures, and yet everyone was sharing in everyone's joy! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 What an amazing community!

Roast beef is a great leftover, sandwich the next day, stew the following day. Had leftover Hutchins brisket sandwiches at the Dallas Show. Great discussion guys. Like the topic, basically collect what you like.

Thanks for sharing Dr Beckett's wisdom of building the best collection for you. As a low budget collector; I get just as excited for finding a $5 card in the dollar bin as I do buying a $200 card that I've saved for.

Great conversation and thoughts! Love both of your guys’ channels!

Firstly, thank you both for the great content, lads. Secondly (left-over dish)... my initial reaction was pizza, but there are so many to choose from. I don't mind left-over curry - either heated, or cold. Vindaloo, Madras, or Rogan Josh preferred. Finally, on envy... As Wade commented in the comments section, envy - if properly handled - can be a great motivator to build a great collection. Oscar Wilde put it well when he wrote 'we are all in the gutter; but some of us are looking at the stars'. If you can't afford - or aren't willing to devote - the funds to purchase a 'grail' item for your collection, then set smaller goals to achieve the end goal. Buying, selling, and trading your items is a great way of getting there, without spending your own money (psychologically at least). 👍 Happy collecting!

Envy, if properly handled, can be a great motivator. That’s why I put together my first 100 card list (100 for $100K) - I wanted to eventually have some of those great cards that many collectors have in their collection. And through saving I’ve nearly picked up half of them so far. Some will take a lot more saving and time to acquire, but it will be so worth it when I’m able to! 😃

Love your guys' insight. I definitely battle with keeping up with you "bigger dogs". It hurts for a moment, but healthy reflection then allows me to do what you said Mike, which is to build the best collection that is important to me, and I refine my immediate want list. It's always good for us to reflect on our values. I have a want list of what I will purchase for the rest of 2024 based on my budget, and am very happy with what those cards are. ~Allon

This is my favorite podcast/show/whatever you call that you do, can always relate, even though I don't collect cards.

Spaghetti is my favorite leftover. I do have some envy towards other collectors for "big" cards but I just look at my binders and realize I have a lot of cards that another person may not have. As a low-end collector, I think the most I have ever paid for a card is $50 but that is how I choose to collect. If people want to sling around thousands of dollars on a weekly basis for cards, more power to them as long as they are enjoying the hobby.

Spaghetti is the king of leftovers because it's actually better the next day. Pizza and Lasagna are strong contenders too, as mentioned. I can't say I ever get jealous of other collections, I am generally happy for them particularly if they are friends. I do you all the channels I subscribe to for inspiration, it's amazing that after decades of collecting that I'm still finding and wanting new stuff that was produced 50 or more years ago.

Raw low/mid grade cards are my favorite leftover. I built my set collection buying the leftovers (starter sets) from my LCS that weren’t worthy of grading or selling individually. Just like Mike built his 65 set.

An excellent episode...I admire great collections but don't have the means to compete in that arena nor would I if I did. Unfortunately I have had to sell a few cards due to financial needs I would have rather kept but was glad I had them to sell rather than not take care of a priority. But still have plenty to keep building on.

I make New Mexico green chile stew every year. We have fresh peppers shipped in from Hatch and the stew is exponentially better as leftovers.
@lovetruth8549Ай бұрын
I live on leftovers, but if it wasn't good the first time, I don't want any the next day. I don't get jealous or envious of others' collections. Probably the most negative i get is wondering if they were responsible when they bought it, or if they went into debt or mismanaged their money. I don't respect a new car for example, I respect a new car that's paid off (or somewhere close).

Chili is a nice leftover. I look at collecting as a personal and private matter that people often choose to share. Just like their personal lives don't really affect me in any way (most of the time), their collections don't affect me either. I just look at their cards and say "cool cards." The same thing that I would say about an art piece in a museum. "Cool painting, cool photo, etc." So I guess the short answer for me is that I'm not jealous of their collections and I just think...nice collection...cool...
@williampotts7205Ай бұрын
My favorite leftover is Chili or meatloaf. A Meatloaf sandwich the next day or so is absolutely delicious. And Chili... how can you go wrong with Chili being reheated a few different times. Gets a little spicier after each time.

I think ‘Keeping up with the Jones’s’ happens in all walks of life, and cards are no different. I see it when people buy a house, a car, and hobbies too. I’ve always gone by the motto live below your means because it’s financially smart. I have never felt the need to compete with someone, but i do compete with myself (if that makes any sense). What i mean is i push myself for the collection i want, not what i think others want. That’s why my collection is filled with modern PSA 8 and 9, and not PSA 10, Auto and Serial cards. The hobby follows the trends, and i collect what i strictly like that may not be popular.

I've collected off and on since the 80's and worked in a cards & comics shop in the early 90's during my college days, so I've met many people and their collections. I have no memories of ever meeting anyone that displayed feelings of jealousy towards other collector or their collections. Meeting and seeing braggarts? Bottomless well on that one. And it's usually THEM that think others are jealous of them.
