I am starting a new series of Shop Tour videos to share other peoples shops. My first stop is with KZfaq Creator Dale Derry from the Metals Tips and Tricks channel. Get a behind the scenes look at Dales shop along with some of his ideas on things like tool storage. Enjoy!

Hi John, Some guys have a really nice way of sharing their information and these two have that natural skill-set. Some are good at what they do but come across with too many um, ers and ars, and a bit school teacher ish, I don't watch anymore-I don't have the time.

I wouldn't worry about covering the same topic as others have. I like to see more than one perspective on how things are done. It's no different than milling or turning setups, there are always different ways of doing it and I enjoy seeing them.

Funny you say the bolt bin is what your most proud of. I am too, I would spend probably 10 - 15 minutes digging threw cans, then clean, run a die over, every time I needed a bolt. Now I open an organized set of drawers grab what I need and smile, LOL

One can never have too clean of a shop. Want a machine to stay with you for a long time treat them like your woman. You can have rough fun when you want to but bring her flowers regularly. Also and organized shop is the best. i can go into mine blindfolded and hand you any tool you want.

Thanks for the shop tour! Each person explains things in a slightly different way which aids in learning. Sometimes it takes multiple videos of the same thing to get the light bulb to go on in the viewers head, so multiple presentations on the same topic is always welcome. Chris

Hi guys. I'm sure you've remembered the name now Dale, but I've lusted after this model of lathe (as you know there were a range of them - Student, Triumph, Mascot and maybe Chipmaster), since I sent off to the Colchester Lathe company for literature on them when I was doing my school engineering project in 1967. I and my family used to go past Colchester Lathe company (in Colchester Essex), every year to and from our annual holiday, so I always felt like I had a 'connection' with them since then. Happy days. Regards Mark in the UK

If everybody stopped making videos because one of the other video makers had already covered the subject there would be lean pickings on the tube. I love watching multiple videos on he same subject and learn more from the compilations of multiple methods and depending on what tooling I have which method is best for me. In many ways, you and your fellow KZfaq creators inspire me. I appreciate all the effort that you, Adam, Dale and countless others put into producing these videos. First lathe is a Colchester Triumph 2000. Used to work in a shop here in the UK with virtually every Colchester model from the Bantam and Student right up to the Mastiff. We had about half a dozen Triumph 2000s. Superb machines which are still manufactured by Colchester but now in Yorkshire in the UK rather than in Essex. Same company also manufactures Harrison lathes, which now share the same gearing, as well as CNC and specialised models.

I noticed that there is a 3D printer on the top of the cabinet. I have a FlashForge Dreamer that I bought, and then built a HicTop aluminum frame printer I built from scratch. The lathe I bought was a 1937 Sears Craftsman with 6in chuck and probably 24in between centers. A friend has the 340 Taiwan lathe in his shop. Enco was the brand that was given to us back in the 80's as economical. Hardinge was my favorite lathe, and accurate to within a thou.

Hi Keith.Love the vid. Shows how lucky we are in Australia in having 3 phase in our workshop. No need for phase converters. I could not image running my Huron Mill or lathe on a phase converter. The Colchester Lathe is a nice machine and I've used many over the years, but the big drawback is the bed is not induction hardened on the earlier models and they wear out quickly becoming inaccurate. Keep the vids coming Keith.

Thanks for the shop tour guys and for the "Old Shop War STories" always fun to hear the hows and whys of what ends up in a guy's shop, always a lot of happenstance involved as noody goes down to the Shop Store and buys a turn key shop it is always a piecemeal hodgepodge with a healthy dose of duplication. Why do we have more than one of something, for sure Tom has plenty of hammers but I'm sure he is not done acquiring pounding implements. Interesting that some guys have toof fetishes for some particular type of tool.

I bought an Everlast welding machine very similar to the one in this video, not long after I received a letter from the RCMP (I'm in Canada) informing me that the CSA certification stickers had been counterfeited and the machine had substandard non-certified components that posed a fire risk. The machine (PA200) could be returned to Everlast Canada for a $50.00 refund or I could destroy it outright. If I chose to do neither and my shop burned down with that machine in it, I would probably not be covered by insurance. I phoned the contact number and talked to the Officer who was in charge of the file and asked about suing the company. He said they had already looked into the finances of the company and there was nothing to go after. As well, I found out there were not going to be any criminal charges laid either. needless to say, I paid over $400.00 for the machine and I feel like I got ripped off and am kind of annoyed these people are still in business. rant over. On the upside, as always, another enjoyable and informative video, thank you.
