Nice shop. For equipment that I want to move infrequently I build up a base so I can move it with a pallet jack. That way I get the stability of a non rolling base, but can easily reposition and relevel when needed.

Beautiful shop. As others have said these are excellent and I'll watch every one you produce. While there's plenty to be jealous of (especially as the owner of a 10" Logan lathe and a round column mill), in this case I am most jealous of the storage drawers, and the room to house them. I just built a huge bench for my machines (all benchtop models) and I'm working on a huge set of drawers for them, but it is a ton of work and a fair amount of money. I wish I could have bought something at a great rate that would have been ready to use so I could spend my time making chips instead of sawdust. But I'll get there...

@southjerseysound7340
@southjerseysound7340 7 жыл бұрын
People like to talk trash on them but chances are they're usually the jealous ones without enough machines ;) All joking aside I came up with a setup that allows me to use a little impact and run bolts down that have feet on them to level things off and keep them from rolling.I cut them from 1/4 and 1/2 plate and they pretty much are just a tab that bolts between the caster and machine and it sticks out just enough(1.5 inches) for the foot that is attached to the heavy duty bolt.I can easily move and level a machine in 5 min or so and while they're not the most accurate I use stick on bubble levels to get things really close.Lets face it they are good enough for a band saw and press etc..........I can just roll my press out,zip the bolts down with a bat powered impact and align the bubbles and done.

Good informative video as usual Keith, and thank Neil for allowing us the tour of his shop. But , This may a little off subject but As handicapped something has come to mind and perhaps between you Keith Fenner as well as input from Adam perhaps the three of you can come up with a solution a perplexing problem many have difficulty overcoming. It sounds like a simple thing but many vertically challenged find the need to change a simple thing like a light bulb. I had been mulling it around I'm my head but perhaps the three of you can take on the challenge. Something you might be able to patent perhaps?

Keith, since you're just about my age, we were on the tail end of that keypunch card. When I went to MTU I had to write a couple programs using Keypunch Cards...they wanted us to appreciate the high tech world. LOL...Never forget carrying my cards to be read and praying I didn't drop them. LOL
@VintageMachinery
@VintageMachinery 7 жыл бұрын
I can remember seeing the keypunch cards being used, and saw a good bit if it, but to be honest with you, I never actually had to do any programs with them (thank goodness). I still think that it is funny that in one software package that I use the command to enter your data is "Cards". Of course these days, the program just looks for a text file or Excel spreadsheet to get the data....

Me too! I've wanted a Marvel-Saw ever since I saw my 1st one at the Pearl Harbor Naval shipyards, and now that I live here on the mainland there is a much greater chance of that happening. Only a very few were ever shipped to the islands, and those ones are subject to rusting in the humid and salty air, so all machine tools are rare in the 50th state.

The metric system has been a long fought battle in the US, much longer any anyone today can remember. When the National Machine Tool Builders Association held their first annual meeting in 1902 they reviewed and adopted a position against adoption of the metric system.

"And to our metric friends out there, don't take that as a slap... (we're) working with this old stuff..." No offense taken and yes, Imperial measurements are definitely old stuff. I'm a Canuck and old enough to have gone through our conversion from inches, miles and pounds to centimetres, kilometres and kilograms. You should try it. It's like going from adding machines to computers.
