4:14 "Why are you painting me?" followed with "Wait, this is me?". It seems to indicate that this is not him, in fact, she drew someone completely different and the main character was surprised by Dokuro's rendition of him.

fun fact: one of the first anime that appears on the imdb "more like this" tab for Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan is Azumanga Daioh: The Animation. Clearly this is in reference to the fact that Azumanga Daioh is inescapable and there is nothing any mortal on this plane of existence can do about that information.

This video really exemplifies how huge the internet is, and how easy a piece of info can fade into obscurity if not regularly searched for.

Honestly excellently done in terms of composition/storytelling/script-writing, this is a really well-handled take on a sort of schizophrenic investigative documentary. Big ups for how you've managed to develop your style over the past several months. It almost made me believe that the French were real. Almost.

You say the giraffe and deer don't have an explanation for appearing in the second season but considering how light novels have so much story crammed into them to explain everything, the light novel probably had them as students that were smart enough to be aware that there's an actual angel in the school and were unfortunate enough to meet the same fate as the monkey and dog student.

when he appears at 4:06, you can hear a melody which sounds like « la marseillaise », so basically the french anthem. just from that i had a guess that he was french, guess i was right. surprised that you didn’t noticed that

A bit of a correction on the scene with the art class. The MC first responds to Dokuro-chan "Why are you painting me?" not because he saw the image, but because Dokuro-chan told him not to move (hence she meant she was painting him). Once MC saw the painting of the real-life guy, MC himself asks "Wait, this is me?" meaning he DOESN'T see himself as that guy in the mirror. Rather, it's either in Dokuro-chan's eyes she sees MC looking like that, or she's making an "artistic rendition" of his face which is often a gag in Japanese manga/anime where the person's portrait ends up being some variation of messed up child's drawing or something realistic to break the 4th wall.

i swear to god i swear to CHRIST i wish i had known this search was a thing while it was happening i totally wouldve helped. i am a long-time, dedicated dokuro-chan fan, i watched season 2 as it was airing as a genuine elementary schooler. i wouldve combed through the credits and googled every white dude sounding name written in katakana until my fingers fell off. the second i heard you say "thomas romain..." i *Screamed* "THE FUCKING CODE LYOKO GUY" because of fucking course. of course it was him. who else. what other westerner literally JUST HAPPENS to be involved in a shitton of anime i watch. of course.

Because of the French anthem at 4:05, I immediately thought "wouldn't it be funny if that was Thomas Romain?" because he's one of the very few French guys who work in anime that I've heard of, and got my mind blown at the end of the video by the fact that it was, indeed, him Also I feel like I should mention that he also does appear in the credits of episode 1, his name appears at 7:15 in this video, exactly at the opposite of where Yuuko is looking ironically enough (in the actual episode, that's when Zakuro, Shizuki and Sabato dance during the credits)

There was a hint in the painting scene - the music that plays when Dokuro-chan's painting is revealed is the french national anthem.

What's crazy and funny is that I know Thomas and his KZfaq channel, his amazing series of dad redraws his sons' drawings and yet I completely didn't recognize him from these pictures and I was at the edge of my seat to know who this random guy from this absolutely crazy anime is. lol

Ok, so I watched this video over a week ago, thought it was great and obviously it stuck with me. Fast forward to now and I’m watching episode 5 of Kemeko DX and during a scene of a karaoke screen THE SAME GUYS FACE SHOWS UP!!!! Y’all I swear to god!!! I screamed, I spit my drink out. The same studio made both of these animes, as I just found out. But MAN what a coincidence! I wouldn’t have even noticed it if not for this video! I have no idea if anyone else has seen this same dude in Kemeko DX and pointed him out before but he sure as hell is there too!

I'm wondering just how much it would have helped if you noticed they played the French National Anthem when they showed his face during the sketching scene. Like, that's one hell of a small hint along the lines of "Oh the guy we took a picture of is from France" and would require a lot of research even still after the fact. I've been looking for this anime forever! I thought it was a fever dream. There's a scene in the OVA I saw when i was like 14 where dokuro-chan drew a painting of how she saw the world. That freaked me the fuck out as a teen, good to know it was real! It's the painting that's 10:30 into the first episode of bokusatsu tenshi dokurochan 2nd episode.

I'm glad that i wasn't the only one confused by the random white dude's face Dokuro season 2 is probably so scuffed because it's an ova after a light novel series and doesn't really have a manga so they adapted random stuff, the manga mentions that dokuro was allowed to come back accompanied by her sister because she broke the device that saw into the future so they couldn't tell if the mc was still gonna turn into a mad scientist but the anime explains 0% of that and just ignores the fact that dokuro's sister was an enemy the previous episode My favourite gag has to be the poor girl that used to sit next to the mc getting erased out of reality just so dokuro can take her place, she's only refrenced in the op and ed

What a journey lol. it kinda hurts to see that you put all this effort tryna find Thomas but all this time your friend knew who he was. At least the search is over and that's all that matters. Also, just a heads up. If something like this happens again (white guy's face showing in an anime), you can skim through the credits and looks only for katakana characters. Just in case you're not aware, Japanese can be written in 3 ways: Hiragana (ひらがな), mostly used for Japanese words, Katakana (カタカナ), used for foreign words, and Kanji (漢字), basically a shorter but more complicated way to write JP words. If you haven't memorized them yet, an easy way to tell if something's written in Hiragana or Katakana is to look at how sharp the characters look. Katakana characters look sharp while Hiragana characters look smooth. For example, Michael would be written as マイケル, while Hideaki Anno would be written as 庵野 秀明. Note that sometimes JP people will have their first names written in Hiragana or Katakana. Anyway, you should try to get familiar with Hiragana and Katakana cuz it'll help you a lot in the long run. Plus, it's super easy if you use mnemonics. 👍
