This is the new Kel-tec PMR 30 Titanium model. It is not titanium, just the model name. It is a 22 WMR (Winchester Magnum Rimfire) and I absolutely love this 22 magnum pistol.
I had only several failures to feed and that was because I had used 22 magnum Armscor ammunition which Kel-tec says not recommended. I just wanted to try it out. I had zero problems with CCI Maxi-Mag 40 grain
CCI Maxi-Mag JHP+V 30 grain
Federal Game Shok JHP 50 grain
Winchester Super-X FMJ 40 grain
and Hornady 22 Mag V-Max 30 grain.
NOT RECOMMENDED by Kel-Tec:
Armscor 40 grain
Fiocchi 40 grain
Any other NON-US made ammunition.
Over all this gun is really fun to shoot and of course the high plus is the 30 round magazines. I have created another video in which I will post on how to clean the mags when you buy them before use and how to load them per Kel-tecs instructions and this really helps in not having problems with Failure to feed and failure to eject as some have experienced. The PMR 30 will shoot well without problems with good quality 22WMR ammo, I noticed cheaper type can have problems. Just a heads up.
For me this PMR-30 is a fun pistol to shoot, survival type bug out gun for small game and if have to self defense at the end of the world. Of course it is just an added pistol so lightweight and 30 rounds magazines make it appealing for many things. It is very accurate with zero recoil. I personally love it. The fiber optic sights are really nice in the daytime and afternoon, not for night time, so will be switching those out for day/night fiber optics. The front sight is drift adjustable but not the rear sights. I found it to be accurate from day one out of the box and I also tested the sights with my laser boresighter and they were good to go.
The trigger pull is about 4lbs, really nothing and very smooth crisp pull, love it. Very little over travel as I demonstrate and this helps you with quick follow up shots. It weighs approximately 13.6 ounces unloaded. Glad it has a picatinny rail and will have to add some laser and/or light soon and test that as well.
The PMR-30 is a light weight, full size pistol chambered for the flat-shooting .22Magnum cartridge (.22WMR). The PMR-30 operates on a unique hybrid blowback/locked-breech system. This operation system allows for the use of a wide variety of ammunition as it seamlessly adjusts between locked breech and blowback operation, depending on the pressure of the cartridge. It uses a double stack magazine of a new design that holds 30 rounds and fits completely in the grip of the pistol. The trigger is a crisp single action with an over-travel stop. The manual safety is a thumb activated ambidextrous safety lever (up for SAFE, down for FIRE). The slide locks back after the last shot and a manual slide lock lever is also provided. The light, crisp trigger pull and fiber optic sights make the PMR-30 ideal for target shooting and hunting small game.
Slide and barrel are 4140 steel, frame is 7075 aluminum. Grip, slide cover, trigger, mag release, and safety levers are glass reinforced Nylon (Zytel), much like other Kel-Tec Pistols. Magazine is Also Zytel and holds 30 rounds, with round count ports. Other features include: dual opposing extractors for reliability, heel magazine release to aid in magazine retention, dovetailed aluminum front sight, picatinny accessory rail under the barrel, Urethane recoil buffer, captive coaxial recoil springs. PMR30 disassembles for cleaning by removal of a single pin.
Here are some specs on the Kel-tec PMR 30 WMR Pistol:

Weight unloaded: 13.6oz. 386g
Loaded Magazine: 6oz. 170g

We tested those here against 9mm some time ago. What we found when shooting a one gallon millk jug was, the 22WMR does a lot more damage to this target than a 9mm would ever do. Your failure to feed is simple you need to break it in a couple of hundred rounds. like 200. We had failure to feed also. they were brand new. I've had many new guns with failure to feed issues , Break them in and oil them well.

I've commented on other reviews of the PMR 30 cause I want all to have a good experience with this firearm. I had all kinds of feeding issues even with the exact ammo Kel-tec recommended. I fixed ALL of them for literally $5. 1. Polished the feed ramp (don't know this made much difference but I do it to most my guns). 2. I did the UV glue hack to the magazine lock on the PMR mags. This keeps the magazine tight without any motion once it's in the mag well. I ordered the glue on amzn. Haven't had a jam since. Originally I loaded my mags with 15 of 5 different types of ammo and weights...nothing ran. Now anything runs in my gun. No break in. If still having problems, ensure you are not "locking the rounds" when you load the mag. Good shooting' all.

The first time I took mine to the range I had several failures to feed and was very disappointed. I was so disappointed that I read the instructions! It said that while loading the magazine one needed to rap the magazine on the back side on a hard surface every 5 or 6 rounds. Next time at the range, No FTF!

I don't know what to say as pistols, rifles, and ammo all vary so much, one from the other. I am 72 y/o and have been shooting since I was 12 y/o, more with 22 ammo because of cost. I have seldom had any failure to feed or failure to fire problems with them. The one exception was a Ruger 22 cal target semi-auto that I bought about 20 years ago to do some bulls-eye competition shooting with. The gun was very accurate but I had a lot of failure to eject problems until I noticed that the cases were hitting the top of the ejection port. I filed the top of the ejection port with a hand file to enlarge the opening and no more failures to eject. Then I had a lot of failures to fire but the fault was mine. The model ruger I had was one that was not so difficult to take apart to clean but almost impossible to put the gun back together. because of that I did not carefully clean the pistol after each time at the range and the problem was a dirty hole that the firing pin went through. The dirt in the hole slowed down the firing pin enough that it didn't hit the rim of the case with enough force to ignite the primer. Even though center fire ammo is supposed to be more reliable by nature and I wouldn't argue with that, I did have some failures to fire with some practice 9 mm ammo in a Smith & Wesson 3913 that I had. I don't know how I found this out but the problem was mine again. I was not holding the pistol firmly enough like as in a Weaver hold or something like that. When I think about it now, that makers no sense to me but the fact is that when I held the 3913 more firmly the failure to fire problem went away. I'd like to answer your question about how my PMR has been working for me now after a year of shooting but I can't because I haven't shot it hardly at all since I bought it. I am 100% physically disabled now and it is difficult for me to get to the range to shoot it. Maybe because of your question and your interest in the gun it will inspire me to make the effort to get to the range more often and shoot the gun more. I just read Ghostinthree's tips after this video on how to make the PMR more reliable and they all make sense to me so I want to try them. If you try them I would be very interested in whatever the results you have are. Thank you so much for asking your question. It is always fun for me to talk about guns with someone, especially, judging from the way you worded your question, someone who is so nice a person as you are. God bless you and may you have many, many more years of safe shooting fun.

30 rounds of .22 mag! Nice! Those feed issues could be picky eaters, limp wristing, or just break in phase. Try different types of ammo. Oh wow I wrote this just as he said break in phase. Every gun will have ftf once in a while except glocks lol. Once every 1,000 rounds.

I love my PMR-30 too. I mounted a Burris fastfire 2 sight on it and use it for practice for my open gun, based on a Gen 4 Glock 41 with an Trijicon RMR tritium sight. It makes a good practice gun with a similar size and layout. I do wish the PMR-30 had a normal mag release, otherwise I have no complaints. Once broken in I had few FTFs or other problems.

+Ghostginthree no, I haven't shot any video or pictures. mine is well broken in and I only use maximag ammo because I haven't had problems with it in any of my guns. the pmr30 is the only semi Auto pistol that I have but maximag works well in rifles and my NAA mini revolvers. All my handguns are 22 magnum original 45acp, though my S&W Governor will take. 410 or .45 long colt.

I own a PMR and a CMR. They both needed about 500 rounds fired thru them to break them in, before they started working well. You will notice that part of the feed ramp is plastic. That is where a guy could take a tiny bit of material away to improve feeding.

Purchased one a few months ago. I heard the ammo you use is important. I went with Federal 40 grain FMJ. I have not had a single mis-feed or jamb. I also did as the owner's manual stated and tap the magazine every 5 to 10 rounds you load. The pistol is very accurate and fun to shoot. I carry it concealed sometimes and with 1 extra clip in my pocket. It's hard to beat 60 rounds in 2 clips and the weight is approximately 2 pounds combined. I was also impressed with the underrated power of a .22 magnum. The newer GEN 2 version has had the bugs worked out compared the Gen1.

I've owned my PMR-30 for about two years now. I do carry it, with an extra magazine. I practice extensively at bullet placement, due to the shell size. My thought on carrying this weapon is based on a simple concept. I am a novice at getting shot at! 1. I've never been in a gun fight, and all articles and videos on the subject point out that getting shot at changes your perspective. Most people only hit about 20% of the time. 2. Most simple robberies are done with a single hand gun. If I only hit 20% and they only have 15 shells, their's will go click before I run out. I also carry an extra magazine.
@Ghostginthree
@Ghostginthree 8 жыл бұрын
+Michall Well said my friend. Good point of view and info on why you carry this awesome weapon and of course it's bullet capacity. I have experience in being shot and in shoot outs. Glad I am still here but my constant practice, training and mental disciplined attitude truly helped. One thing I have always heard some say, is they carry a 45 for knock down power and I was carrying a 9mm on duty and my thinking was well most of you LEO's don't practice much and you have less ammo, for multiple suspects, God forbid. I preferred having more bullets, then worrying about the age old battle of .45 or 9mm. If you can't hit your target, your caliber does not matter but generally when their is one idiot trying to rob you, attack you, kill you etc. there is most always one more hiding or near, so I preferred having more bullets, extra mag as you carry. I commend you for your thinking and common sense. Oh one last thing, I hear the carrying a .22 or .22 magnum is pointless and will not stop anyone. They are wrong. I have seen it first hand, in the field and in the hospitals and 22s can do serious damage and death especially with good shot placement. Those who talk negative about 22s have zero clue. Thanks for your great comment and for watching.

James York Luck you, tan is the model I originally wanted but beggars can't be choosers and this model was the only one they had. I had never even heard of it at the time but it was a new model and bought it fast. I have read the card it comes with saying what type of ammo to use and I also tested some other ammo including Armscor 22 magnum which is made in the Philippines and cheaper in price. Mine ate it well. Here is a tip that may help. I also frog lubbed this barrel and polished the feeding ramp and I swear this helps all my guns but especially this one and I have had no problems with non recommended ammo. Thanks for watching. It is a great gun

Also be careful when loading your magazines to avoid "rim lock". I tap the mag every 6-8 rounds while loading but am also very careful to clean (and even lube) the magazines between uses. Perfectly functioning magazines are critical to this gun's operation.

Hello everyone, sorry for the late update but wanted to explain the reason for the several FTF, eject. One main reason, I did not load those two mags properly as I do now, it makes a major difference. My fault being in a hurry. I have fired about 600 rounds through it now and zero problems because I load the magazines correctly, see my other video on it. I also frog lubed the barrel and polished the feed ramp and trust me my friends, i have fired non recommended ammo like Armscor which is made in the Philippines and not one problem. I have seen an improvement with frog lubing this barrel. I can fire just about any ammo of 22 WMR I have on hand or buy. Just wanted to inform those of you out there with warranted questions about this great gun. Thanks.
@almagore1
@almagore1 8 жыл бұрын
+Ghostginthree Thanks for all the tips. I want to try them all. How do you go about "Frog lubing the barrel"? What I have always heard (I am 72 y/o and have been shooting since I was 12 y/o) is that after cleaning the barrel that if you are going to store a pistol to run a lightly oiled patch through the barrel but then to run a dry patch through the barrel before firing the gun, that the inside of the barrel should be dry when firing the gun.
@Ghostginthree
@Ghostginthree 8 жыл бұрын
+Albert Nygren Hi Albert, sorry about the late response. Yes I have heard that technique you mentioned. Frog lube is pretty cool and I have used it and tested it on my guns. First you take it apart and heat up only the metal parts but since you mentioned the barrel, you heat that up with a heat gun or blow dryer which take a bit longer but do this till you can't hold it and also on the inside of the barrel. Once hot, use a brush to light spread it all over the barrel and inside. Wear some gloves as not to burn your fingers. You can stand up the barrel and run a smaller brush or long ear swab with frog lube on it and this will melt inside. Now that you have brushed this coating on, let it sit for an hour or hour and half and then wipe off all the frog lube and use a rod with a cleaning swab on it that is used for gun barrels and that is it. You will feel the metal smoother, including the feed ramp and that you want. Frog lube works when you fire your gun, it heats up and the tiny pores in the metal slowly release the frog lube and now you have a lubed gun. Your inside barrel will not be soaked or outside as some think, it is just enough to help in lubrication inside your pistol, etc. I have used this on all my guns, metal parts and also helps to protect them from rust when stored. I recommend any 22. caliber rimfire type to also add your oil as usual but not too much, the frog lube will help. The reason I say this is because rimfire ammo guns don't have the power like bullets with primers that are more powerful. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Shoot often my friend. Thanks for watching and asking good questions.
@almagore1
@almagore1 8 жыл бұрын
Ghostginthree, Thank you so much for replying to my question at all and especially in this relatively short time. Your technique sounds great and I will try it the next time I have the time. You mention the lubrication benefits but not whether you notice whether it affects accuracy or not. Now I don't expect and I am not saying you should have noticed and I don't expect you to do any work, but in the off chance that you have noticed, I know it would benefit me and possibly some other readers as well. I can tell Sir that you are a quality person and a credit to our sport of shooting. God bless you, guide you, and keep you and all of your family safe for all of eternity. Amen
@Ghostginthree
@Ghostginthree 8 жыл бұрын
+Albert Nygren Good question, I forgot to mention that. From what I could tell as I shot it many times before I frog lubed it and after, the accuracy seemed the same but felt smoother, meaning seeing and feeling the slide moving and that is because of the frog lube working. I also notice less powder glued to the barrel and the whole guts of the pistol cleaner after about 100 rounds of shooting in one day. Thanks for the excellent question. Keep me updated on yours. I will be doing a video on frog lubing the Kel-Tec PMR30 soon and showing the feed ramp being polished, I do this on all my pistols and rifles and I really feel it helps. Now I sound like a commercial. lol Thanks for watching brother.

I love the 22 magnum platform to begin with , the 30 round capacity of this weapon makes it more useful as an everyday carry sidearm than any 9mm ,when police chose the 9mm to replace the excellent 38 the biggest factor was round count ,the 38 is superior to the 9mm in EVERY area except round count ,using round count as the main factor in choosing a carry weapon this 22 mag is superior than the 9mm ,I carry a 22 mag revolver as a pocket weapon when I'm wearing clothing that's hard to conceal the 357 colt I carry ,once this platform becomes more available & lower price I won't hesitate in buying a pair ,1 to replace my wife's Makerov 9mm & 1 for me ,I would love having 30 60 grain 22 magnum loads .

I agree. I crack up when people who have no clue think a 22LR or 22magnum could never be used for self defense. Good shot placement and the love of having 30 round in each mag is awesome. Thanks for the info on your loving this PMR30. Thanks for watching.

Michael Ledford The ballistics of the .38 ARE NOT superior to the 9mm, in any way. Not sure where u get your info... The .38 is BARELY better than the .380. Research it.

Tell me about it brother. I keep an eye out for 22 mag ammo anywhere from gun shows to online vendors. Some are charging insane prices, they are price gouging. You can still find it, keep an eye on www.palmettostatearmory.com but when u see it, buy or it is gone. These days more gun manufacturers are creating more .22 magnum rifles and this also adds to it. This PMR30 is amazing and for me it is a great survival weapon as well as fun and if need be self defense, 30 rounds. lol Which model do you have? Thanks for watching.

I have an original AMT automag II. It is just as finicky about what ammo you put through it. Winchester Super X is the ONLY thing it MAY reasonably, reliably cycle. I suspect that the inherent design limitations of an auto loading .22 WMR may never be overcome. Perhaps some manufacturer will do it eventually. I"ll be mildly surprised if it happens.
@Ghostginthree
@Ghostginthree 9 жыл бұрын
macgyver77777 Yes the instructions say to use only certain name brand 22 magnum ammo and no foreign ammo but I have used Armscor 22 magnum and other brands in my testing and it did well. Mostly it is people who do not load the mag as they tell you to. That is the number one reason for FTF and FTE. I also frog lubed the barrel inside and out and polished the feed ramp and I am telling you I can shoot any 22 magnum ammo through it with out a problem.

I love the idea of this gun but am still not impressed with the quality-- why does Kel tec seem to come up with good ideas- (30 rounds, 22 magnum!!- real beast) but then can't just go a few steps further regarding quality to produce a real winner???
@Ghostginthree

+Skridge Milky Good question. Seems like they don't wait to get all the bugs out of the weapon and get it out to market and later on deal with the problems. I love the KSG Shotgun but their first run production had problems, then of course everyone complained and now they have a better version that works. With this PMR 30 the same thing, the barrel was fluted in the first models and was having problems many complained of. So then they changed the barrel and the problem was solved. You are right bad pattern to get things out to market so fast and not take care of any future problems the public will have. I got mine later in the years and have zero problems with it. Of course what drew me to it was the mag capacity, great survival type handgun, even self defense if that is all I had. 30 rounds and it's so light, is all good. Thanks for watching.

@Ghostginthree 8 жыл бұрын
+Kyle Hornung Hi, sorry about the late response. Basically just get a dremel that has a soft tip or like when you wax your car, you polish it, so the same goes for a gun/feeding ramp. Just use frog lube or other compound rub it on the feed ramp and continue for a few minutes and this helps to smooth it for feeding.
@Ghostginthree
@Ghostginthree 8 жыл бұрын
+Kyle Hornung I used my dremel and a soft tip, kind of like people use the soft one used for taking wax off a car but you can use like me frog lube on the feed ramp or other and rubbing, on the feed ramp. The smoother it is the better and easier a bullet will enter the chamber. Feel free to ask more questions if need be. Hope this helps.

the failure to feed are due to the length of the bullet combined with ammo that has powder that develops velocity slower i.e. foreign cartridges. I dunno why, but no one else in the world seems to be as obsessed with short barrels as we in the US are...hence why they use slower powders. The new self-defense stuff develops a lot of velocity quickly. CCI's gamepoint (JSP) gets over 1400fps from a 5" barrel, and Speer's Gold Dot gets just shy of 1200fps from a little 2" barrel! I just purchased one, and I plan to feed it either CCI's MaxiMag HP or gamepoint JSP. I won't touch Winchester anything ever again. Speer's Gold Dot starts faster than CCI in shorter barrels (less than 3"), but CCI gets faster once you pass 3" barrels.

GREAT VIDEO ! However, several gun store folks we talk to regularly are adamant that the 22 Magnum cartridge is being "phased out", along with all 22 rimfire (including LR). They claim the ammo manufacturers don't want to invest in new production facilities, as theirs date back to the 1960's. New government regulations will make rimfire ammo production VERY expensive, and entail a lot of OSHA & other agency "oversight". HAVE YOU HEARD ANYTHING ALONG THIS LINE ?

Thanks for the info brother but in the gun world, sadly we have paranoid people who mean well and miss information the worthless anti gun gov. and other pass around. Now this i know for a fact as i really went out of my way for myself to research. The companies who manufacture 22s and 22 magnum etc. and even 22 short are hiring more workers and most not all are working their machines making a killing I am sure 24/7. The demand unlike years ago is so up on 22s, they will not stop making it, trust me. I don''t mind being wrong brother but this ammo is like gold. I am sure you have seen the prices on 22 and i have seen some serious price gouging till this day at gun shows and online as of last week. This would not happen if they were going to phase out 22s and gun manufactures would stop making 22 handguns and rifles. As you can see, more companies are making a ton of 22 rifles and handguns as more people want them so the ammo will not stop but sadly the price for now is still more higher then years ago. Thanks for watching and your comment brother.

I have seen them online for way cheaper, just be ready when you see it, buy it fast no waiting or it's gone. That is what i did. I bought mine for $330.00 brand new. Zwordsman It just happened to be in the store. It was the only model and I had not even heard of the Titanium model till I was told the store had it and it was a new model. I personally wanted all black or the desert tan model but I said screw it, this gun is hard to find and I got a deal on it so the color grew on me. Hell I can always paint it if I want. Keep on doing net searches and calling gun stores like I did and eventually you will get info on one or some available. I did this off and on for about 2 years when it was really being bought like crazy and it paid off. I have heard they are showing up more & more in gun stores. Good luck it is a great gun.

I don't know why you bring up GLocks, this video is just to show this 22 magnum handgun, nothing else. I love my GLocks and work great. This PMR-30 works great after 200 rounds for me. I can shoot ammo that Kel-tec says avoid, it kills it all and no fails. When I made this video it was still new, breaking in time, yes that sucks, no gun should have that but even Glocks as awesome as they are, your ammo can fail at the worst time, it is that one round that is not good. I still say now, stand in front of me and lets see if you can take 10 rounds off 22 magnum. I do prefer and carry my G26 9mm. Love it but this PMR-30 is a great gun now and more a survival type gun for me and fun to plink with but if nothing was around, I will use this then throwing rocks. lol Thanks for your comment and watching.
