I appreciate that you differentiate between alternatives and actual dupes. I think many creators are too quick to call products a dupe of something else.

Loved that you added a scale, because I agree that the word "dupe" is being used a little too liberally nowadays. It should include how a product looks on the face, wear time, etc.

The drugstore and affordable brands need more credit. Not everything needs to be a dupe. Sometimes formulas (like the NYX concealer) are great on their own and are innovative for a low price point. We don't need to attach "dupe" labels to everything that performs well under $20.

I feel like we get really lucky with CF brands’ dupes and alternatives! Especially when it comes to duping non-CF brands. Even really niche products, I feel we always get a good alternative! Like recently I discovered Peach Slices has a great dupe for the Dr Jaart redness color corrector (which I had never tried because it wasn’t CF, but I really wanted to find a good alt for). It’s great to see more CF products for more specific products that may not have the same mass appeal as others, but still treat specific conditions (like rosacea).

The essence primer and elf sunscreen are the most notable for me from this video. I wear sunscreen everyday, and I have to put a hydrating primer before makeup or else my skin looks too dry. Definitely looking into both of those.

Thank you for saying the Becca under eye corrector and the flower one not being dupes! I get so angry when people say they are lol they're nothing alike in formula! The FB one is wayyyy to dry for my dry under eye! I had to return mine. I absolutely love the Becca one tho so I'm so glad smashbox has it now!

The Milani contour wand should be very similar to the CT one. Also, Milani has color correctors, including a peachy one like becca, except they come in tubes and are inner (and therefore less cakey).

Beauty Pie has a contour wand that is an exact dupe of the CT Contour Wand. The medium shade is out of stock but the light and the deep aren't. Beauty Pie has enough really excellent skin care and makeup choices to justify their joining price.

There is SO MUCH BS flying around because of TikTok. I know some of that is due to video length, but there is ZERO accountability! People can just say anything with impunity - including dangerous things and misinformation/lies, but even saying random incorrect things about makeup could cause financial problems for impressionable young kids. I hope it will eventually go in more of an Instagram direction, where there are occasional rules to worry about... (Sorry I sound so old! 👵)

I don’t think the Elf sunscreen is a dupe for the Glow Screen! The finish is similar but the Elf one is much drier and it has that terrible sunscreen scent. I use the Glow Screen every day and it’s super moisturizing and has such a beautiful finish.

Love how you broke this down. I get so fed up with people calling things a “dupe” when it’s just not even close. Then everyone goes out to buy said “dupe” and has wasted their money once again! Very few drugstore brands tend to try and dupe high end brands, it’s mainly elf, revolution and essence, not many other brands like L’Oréal, max factor, maybelline etc tend to do dupes, it’s the more very affordable brands that do, and it has to be said, elf and essence have been killing it lately with he really fantastic dupes! Revolution has not been doing anywhere near as many as it used to I don’t feel. But it is still doing them. But Revolution was always going to, it was started around a kitchen table with the intention of bringing high quality products as good as high end brands but at affordable price points! And a majority of the time that’s what they do! Elf just started as an affordable option for like £1 an item for a long time, and it kept growing and started making some amazing affordable products before starting to dupe high end brands. It doesn’t always dupe something first, but It’s one of the few brands that nails it a majority of the time when it tries to dupe something!

Just because something is a dupe does not mean it is a better value you need to check price per ounce or gram. Lipsticks are pretty standard so that's one thing but a dupe is for price

Frankly, I'm getting tired of the frantic hunt for dupes and production of dupes. It doesn't necessarily save me money. Would you have paid $9 for an elf lipstick just because it's a NARS dupe and your saving sooo much money? No? Me neither. That's $9 spent, not $~20ish saved. Unless you love NARS lipstick, then you're golden 😊. The price tags for the Supergoop duoe and the Halo Glow are above usual elf price tags as well. Not meaning to harp on elf, but it's the most obvious example. It's time to be more mindful and to think about if I'm really saving money or just spend less money on things I wouldn't have bought in the first place.
