The wnba does not make any profit hence why they can’t pay their players much. The sponsorships and jersey sales of the wnba do not even cover the costs of players salaries. But what about all the other costs associated with the wnba running ? The jersey sales, ticket sales, sponsorships, any other revenue, do not make enough to cover expenses to make any profit whatsoever. I love watching women's basketball! I would hate to see it disappear. What I think is that the players association is asking for the wrong thing. The WNBA is worth additional investment, but it should be targeted to growing the league, putting the league in a position to pay higher salaries. The WNBA should be requesting additional investment from the NBA, but it should go toward additional promotion and exposure rather than salary increases. The WNBA should be focused on making their business profitable. Once the dollars come, salary increases will come. Granted the benefit is not immediate, current players may not get the benefit, but future players will. I agree that WNBA players should get as much as NBA players, but investments should be in place to position the organization to pay those types of salaries.

Sport is about winning, and probably the most pretigiuous win in the world winning in Olympics. Not having proffesional league would mean that USA would not be able to show it's the best in most prestigiuos tournament.
