Kendrick explained "M.A.A.D" is an acronym for "My Angels on Angel Dust". It is also known as "My Angry Adolescence Divided."

Second guy rapping is MC Eiht. Hes also from compton and is a a veteran in the rap game being part of a rap group called Comptons Most Wanted in 1992. Edit: m.A.A.d is an acronym referring to where kendrick grew up. He never told anyone what it meant, however, he revealed that the meaning is mentioned somewhere in his album. The meaning is unveiled at the end of the song. However Kendrick later would define its meaning as My Angels on Angel Dust, Meaning that in the hood you're best friends and past friends are either dead or on drugs.

The thing that makes this album an classic in hip hop is the fact that it's literally a movie. If you listen to the album in order it tells such a cohesive story with incredibly well executed themes. Both sonically and in the more traditional sense. You guys should do a live stream or something where you go through a whole album! That way hip hop fans can give you info and it can be more like a conversation during the reaction!

yeah like i understand him changing his style on an album to album basis, but GKMC is currently his best album by far imo. TPAB is good only if you listen to it track by track, where as GKMC is masterful track by track, but also has a lot of very good songs that stand up well on their own. Like i is the big banging single from TPAB and it's not even on the album in it's original form! As for DAMN! I just don't really jive with that album. The style is too generic of hip-hop today for me, despite his top-class lyricism.

I really appreciate y'all because you actually take the time to analyze lyrics and take these songs for what they are, as opposed to a lot of the metal heads I grew up around who just shit on anything that wasn't the style they liked. This song really spoke to me because I'm a poor Appalachian kid and Kendrick describing some of the shit he's been through (specifically the "Where you from? Fuck who you know, where you from? Where your grandma stay, huh?" shit) is immediately relevant to my own experiences and helped me understand what folks living in places like Compton go through in a more visceral way than some generic pop song ever could. He created a bridge between my hillbilly experience and the experiences of someone in the ghetto, and I will always respect him for that.

So listen guys . I’m also a metal head . Grew up listening to slipknot, Metallica, Mudvayne, moved onto more metalcore in highschool like August Burns Red, Miss May I, Motionless in White, The Crimson Armada, etc. so coming from another metalhead? Kendrick’s Good Kid Maad City, along with To Pimp a Butterfly are both some of the greatest masterpieces of art I’ve ever heard. Every single song on both albums hits hard in my soul. I’m also a recovering addict and many of the messages and struggles he talks about in these albums hit home for me. I lived on the streets homeless for 2 years doing crazy shit so many of the things he speaks of is familiar to me. So basically my opinion? When you guys get a chance , on your own , put in headphones and listen to both albums all the way through and truly experience them both. AMAZING amazing art. but for your next reaction vid ? Do King Kunta off To Pimp A Butterfly. Outstanding song with a guitar solo at the end that you guys will appreciate lol

M.a.a.d city, made angel on angel dust, this whole album is about one day his friend was shot, his mates gave him a cigarette laced with pcp to help him cope, he was beaten up by the cops and he realized that if he doesn't focus on his talents he will end up dead. It's crazy when you listen from start to finish, after 100+ listens I still make new connections. Kendrick is goat.

Hey guys! I'm sooo happy I found your channel... Been watching your videos for a while, and I thought I'd let you know, because your content is awesome, literally what a reaction video should be. Plus, I love the kind of 'outsider' point of view you have, you actually make me stop on things I did not react to when listening to the song myself. Seeing you educating yourselves in hiphop, and the open mind with which you do it, is amazing, huge W for you. Somebody probably already requested that, but you should react to "The Blacker The Berry" by Kendrick. I think it was the second third single before the release of To Pimp a Butterfly, it's such a powerful track! Also, I would give anything to see you guys do a collab with the guys at the Lost in Vegas channel. They're really cool dudes, very knowledgeable in hip hop, I guarantee you that would be one of the most interesting conversations ever uploaded on the interwebs lol Cheers from Paris!

That's a Compton legend, MC Eiht His biggest song is called "Straight up menace" from the movie menace to society. He also played the character A Wax in that movie. It came out around 1994, it's an absolute classic film and song. He was in a group called Compton's Most Wanted. They weren't big in ny where im from, but they definitely had an influence on kendrick, being that they're from his home town lol

To be more specific it's a music video thats meshes 2 TPAB album songs in one video. "U' and "For Sale." God is Gangsta is simply the name of the video which is trying to visualize those two album songs, it's not an original piece musically. Regardless, unless you guys do a To Pimp A Butterfly full album reaction (which I 100% recommend), you definitely should do a God is Gangsta reaction
