Buy: Kendrick Lamar - untitled unmastered. apple.co/1LXP3dk
Kendrick Lamar shocked everyone last week when he released a new EP. 'untitled unmastered.' is a collection of songs and performances recorded during the To Pimp A Butterfly sessions. After Kendrick's Grammy performance, Lebron tweeted Top Dawg asking him to drop the tracks. The true story is that Lebron saw Beezy's tweet saying Kendrick should release the songs as his version of Nas's 'The Lost Tapes' and stole it for himself. So let's all #ThankBeezy4Kendrick.
We spoke on whether Kendrick should release the tracks earlier this year which led to a debate split down the middle. At the top of the week, we followed that discussion up with our reactions to the surprise release. Here is our official review of Kendrick's new project 'untitled unmastered.'
We now have an official online shop to purchase merch! Check it out here: shop.spreadshirt.com/deadendhi...

The fact that he has such widespread appeal and admiration from all types of musicians speaks volumes - even Bowie was listening to TPAB (and Death Grips, funnily enough) while recording his final album... I don't think anyone can even come close to what Kendrick is trying to do, and I almost feel like he's already managed to lift hip hop itself up to a new level of creativity - we are truly witnessing the work of a genius in his prime, yet he still has so much more potential and so much more to give - he probably will surpass TPAB and GKMC, but even if he doesn't, his influence is already immeasurable. Phenomenal artist, I cannot speak highly enough about the guy.

I think Kendrick was indeed taking shots at Jay on untitled 07. If you look at the date next to the track, it says '2014-2016,' so it's possible that K Dot added extra lyrics that were directed at Jay after dude dissed him on Periscope.

I definitely do think people take Kendrick for granted. He doesn't make a fool of himself or makes us look bad with stupid, degrading behavior. He makes GREAT, IMAGINATIVE, CREATIVE, BLACK Music. Even the vast majority of his own people didn't even fuck with TPAB heavy. He's already in the conversation for Greatest Ever. If he makes 1 more Classic album, then he's undeniably Top 10 ever. Then once he's in, you can place him wherever you wish.

Did anybody think there was a theme based on the Seven Deadly Sins? Like Blue Faces kind of touches on greed, the first part of Untitled 7 is about pride and the last part is about lust. I also think Untitled 5 was about Wraith cause he was painting a scenario where he was going out and killing people on his list. There's also the fact that There's 8 tracks...Untitled 1 being the Rapture, and the other 7 touch on the deadly sins

yeah, tpab was dope but it was just awkward to listen to at times with all the screaming and moaning it sounded like hopsin.I have to turn my phone all the way down in school when these walls comes on so no one thinks I'm watching porn.the blacker the berry was the best song on there to me because it did all the things hip hop should be about and it has a lot of replay value , everything else on that album I would probably listen to twice in a row and be done.

TrailorTrashGawd Nah man I liked TPAB but IMO it's a little concept dependent meaning that once the concept is fully understood and explored it becomes much less engaging, When I first listened to it the poems were very engaging but now that I've heard the album about 100 times and grasped the concept the poems can be a little annoying same thing with the song "U" when I first heard it it felt powerful and thrilling but now I just skip over it. GKMC in my opinion doesn't have those kinds of issues even though that album also has a concept.
@coolnesss16
@coolnesss16 8 жыл бұрын
+learning2understand I think you guys are crazy. I think TPAB is his best work even deviod Of concept from a flow and musical perspective it's much more ambitious and sonically beautiful than GKMC. GKMC was a vivid liner story I get it but TPAB is more diverese in subject matter and to me is more engaging track to track. I honestly think its so dense and so jazzy and funk influenced that just may not some people cup of tea. U is better than a few tracks on GKMC and it's competing with a lot ofother tracks on TPAB.

Five - Six months ago (billboard greatest of all time list) in that conversation, u guys said now way Kendrick should be there bla bla bla. Now fast forward five - six months and Kendrick releases his B - Side compilation album and you now are comfortable saying he is like one of the greatest (and he will be). Man that sounds Fucking weird. imagine what the fuck everyone will say when his discography is done and he ends his career.... And don't Fucking compare Kendrick To Nas. I Love Nas but he has a bunch of mediocre and bad albums. Kendrick is 4/4 right now. Everybody knows that. Biggie or Outkast would sound better as a comparison for their Albums with Kendrick. His discography right now is comparable to all of yours favorite rappers and u guys know that! All Hail King Kendrick.

+Moh Ali I don't know about 4/4. You got half a song of Kendrick singing in a feminine voice (smh). Another track he doesn't even rap on. It's just some chicking singing for two minutes (c'mon). That's 2 out of 8 tracks right there. Another track has Cee-lo singing all over it. Nas' 4th effort Nastradamus is easily his weakest effort but Life We Chose and Last Words smash anything on untitled.unmastered. Kendrick has all these singy songy hooks and soft beats. Nas couldn't get away with stuff like that in the 90's. The standard today is so much lower it's ridiculous. There's a couple of good tracks on this but there's nothing special about it. People are getting a little too carried away. And if you want to talk about leftover songs Nas' Lost Tapes blows this right out of the water. No contest.

+Khalid Richardson For sure he was on both Long Term Mentality and Control Systems. I heard that he doesn't rap a lot but when he does he spits something dope and worth listening to. And so far he has not disappointed me. When I heard it was him on this track I was ready to hear what he was gonna spit.

When you waiting patiently for C-Town to fucking rip the record apart....but then he absolutely gives the perfect review praising the record. Fuck you Mike! Start hating records again! And also thank you for validating me. I tell so many people that Kendrick is like the Rakim and Nas of our day, pretty unequivocally the best rapper alive today. All us Kendrick believers get hate because we're comparing him to other great artists that he's comparable in skill with "too soon." I'm like, Nigga do you NOT have ears? Do you not remember how you felt listening to the great shit we grew up on? Does Kendrick not evoke that same feeling. I remember how Aquemini made me feel. That shit became an instant classic in its day. Kendrick makes me feel like that. I know what I'm talking about. Kendrick name gonna be in our mouth for the next half a millenia teaching college courses

Its funny how a lot of Kendrick fans always shit on Wayne when K.Dots cadence and vocal inflections are heavily influenced by mid 2000 era Weezy, it was much more apparent on OD and Section 80 but I still hear the influence now. Just listen to the song "I'm me" by Lil Wayne than listen to "Blacker the berry"there's a clear resemblance.

Kendrick Lamar is a living legend. Some say he just came around at the right time. But I say he came around at the perfect time. He never makes the comparisons himself, he creates them through his work which is why he remains authentic. He's all the best parts of artists from the golden era. Where as you have some just draw inspiration loosely from that era, Kendrick did some xmen shit and completely absorbed all the powers from Nas, Pac, Andre 3000, DOC, Scarface and plenty more. Hopefully on his next album he includes some features from some other lyricists like Locksmith, Jon Connor, Jean Grae and Cyhi. To me that would stop all the remarks about him only being good compared to mainstream artists. Who knows? Anyway great review, can't wait til the next ask DEHH.

They always dislike my favorite tracks of every albums lmaoooo that CLo song is untitled 6 and its such a jammmmm! I think it's important to not put kendrick in a box. Not all his songs have to be intense/deep/dark like some of them can be upbeat and happy. The beauty of kdot's music is that his sound (whether dark or happy) is so unique and his lyrics are so powerful
