David Gilmore is one of the most masterful soulful guitarists in rock music. His legendary ability to evoke and encompass the full range of human emotion with his guitar playing makes him one of the best guitarists ever. He makes you feel every cord, note, bend and slide. His tone is incredible and what he plays is so perfectly arranged. He is not a shredder or an overly technical guitarist, and he doesn't play a ton of notes but, he makes everything he plays count.

David was my influence for picking up a guitar. I can play his stuff and I can play stuff from people who are considered more complicated guitarists (Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker etc) but I still go back and still enjoy playing David's solo's. He just had a way of making the guitar presence larger than life. What I learned from him is how to bend the total shit out of a guitar string. We are talking like a 2 1/2 to 3 step bend. That alone is hard to do. Great guitarist.

With that being said, one of my other favorite bands (Alice In Chains) has a song called Down In A Hole, which, as a singer, I think you will appreciate very much. *_Please react to High Hopes Live in Gdansk_* imho, that may be one of my favorite Gilmour solos and his voice is absolutely mesmerizing. That is a song that has a bit of everything that is great about Dave, esp that version!! His vocals, the acoustic guitar>steel pedal solo>acoustic outro with those strings is nothing short of perfection. That song and that performance with the orchestra is Ethereal!! The entire show is absolutely beautiful with my fav version of Echoes(sans the original Live at Pompeii 1972 obvi) with the late, great Richard Wright. RIP Rick

Hahaha.. yes, I went and saw the Pink Floyd laser show at the IMAX planetarium theater in downtown Charlotte, NC... it was a 12 o'clock midnight show on a Saturday evening after a downtown concert fest... it was mind-blowing. Before the show they had an announcement something like this: "This theater's IMAX sound system has 100,000 watts of power, and warning, if loud music causes problems for you, please leave now, because this show will be played at full power." You could hear every vibration of a guitar string and feel the bass in your chest. That was about 20 years ago and it still gives me chills to think about it... and yes, there was an aroma.

Absolutely sensational. My all time favourite performance of ‘Comfortably Numb’, from David Gilmour, in the wonderful setting of this Amphitheater, in Pompeii. This time with a crowd, unlike his previous performance their with Pink Floyd, in 1971, when they played the wonderful ’Echoes’. David is 70 years of age at this Show, in 2016. And you’re right, you should have your headphones on too. Very loud. I was lucky enough to see this Show at a one night only Cinema Showing. Magnificent, all of it. Truly wonderful. 🎶❤️🎶

You should react to the 94 Pulse concert performance. See what Gilmour was like in his prime. As far as the Pompeii performance goes, the only member of Pink Floyd on that stage is Gilmour. The band is is Gilmour's band. A little trivia, Gilmour was the first live act in the Amphitheater of Pompeii since 79AD. The guitar strap he's using was Jimi Hendricks. Gilmour's wife bought it for him for his birthday. You should also react to Sorrow from the same concert.

I love the ‘can’t’. You are right. He doesn’t say it on the album. In the UK with different accents, some say ‘can’t’, as I do. And some say ‘caaaant’. It’s great we are all different. I love hearing him pronounce it as he does, non US artists singing in an American accent is a bug bear of ours. The ‘doctor’s’ voice isn’t all over the place, it’s part of the performance and is spine tingling/creepy.

Not only is the word "cant" not pronounced incorrectly because he wrote it. It is also not incorrect purely because it is the correct way of pronouncing it.
