I find Hook to be a really underrated score, right up there with Williams' best. I enjoyed looking at this cue in particular and hope you will too.

Its fascinating to hear how John Williams developed his own musically ideas and themes over the years and makes use of it in particular film scenes like this one. You can clearly hear some parts of the motif from "Home Alone", which is called "Somewhere In My Memories", that came out a year earlier.

2:52 - The C#m instead of Db might be just because the piece progresses to E major afterwards? It's the easiest explanation in my opinion. Great analysis and a wonderful cue, by the way, thanks for uploading!

Also, C sharp minor is a lot easier to read for the musicians than Db minor. Way less accidentals, and no double flats...

@@FreakieFan it depends on the person, I'd say. And if you played some keys more than others. But the players on Hook play everything prima vista, even if you did it in D# minor.

Orchestra Bells and Tubular Bells are the same thing.

@@BenSmithFilm but at the beginning isnt it a glock together with the flute? the tubular bells i know dont make that high sound but more like a church bell sound?

I allow myself to answer because I know it personally from one of the Maestro's orchestrators. He always prefers the orchestral bells, glockenspiel and celesta to be from a synthesizer or sampler, heavily softened and processed.
