Kerosene vs Propane witch one is more cost effective per gallon

Kerosene gives a dry heat, whereas propane gives off a lot of water vapor. Meaning, if someone uses a propane heater in a motor home or some type of enclosed space, they'll have a rain shower inside due to condensation on the walls and ceiling. Kerosene won't do that. Plus, if needs be, depending on the model, someone can cook or boil water on the unit itself. Further expanding its utility.

I myself have ran a box Kerosene heater in a van, like the one in this video, it worked out fine for me. Other than the light Kerosene odor, turning off and on. It heated 96 sq-ft at half setting for 12 hours on less than a gallon of fuel. Took temps from 18f to 60f in an hour.

Dont like propane. Its pressurized. Kerosene heater is not. Been using kerosene heat for iver 50 years. Never an issue. Keep heaters cleaned, and maintained. Use a kerosene additive..currently have 9 kero heaters, all sizes, types. Kerosene useage relative to wick size. Love my kero sun moonlighters. They sip fuel, 2" cotton wicks..they throw light, can cook on them, and of course heat. I keep 100 gallons of kero in hand, enough to get a hrough a winter, if power ever went out kong term.

Hey Tom. When I recorded that video. The price of propane. And kerosene was different at the time. But now kerosene is getting better. If you set your heater right. You can make it go a lot longer.

One advantage the kerosene has in power situation is you heat water or food using it's flat top. We had one years for power outages.

That particular kerosene heater appears to be a Radiant 8 ... it's an 8000 btu heater with a runtime of up to 37 hours on a full 1.7 gallon tank according to the manual. I just changed out the wick on mine.

Good comparison details. For completeness, it would have been good to include an electric heater (oil or fan) and what the cost for that would be. Other than for power outage emergencies, it only makes sense to use something instead of electric is if power isn't available in that location or the kW costs run higher that alt fuels over the same time period. All things being equal, clearly electric has the advantage since you don't need to be worried about adequate ventilation.

Huh. I used kerosene for 24 hours at 6.31 a day, 4 days at 25.25. (5.05 gal) My gf used a propane one like you have and got 12 hours out of a whole tank for 25.00, or 50.00 for 1 day. (Propane tank exchange was all they could find) I didn't put the cost of the appliance in them because it's a form of insurance and an investment for the future which will pay for itself.

Hey robin. A lot of things I did hacker in. One. The smaller kerosene heater I use. Is a smaller one. And keep it on low. The smaller ones don’t use to much. And on low. They don’t burn to bad. The propane. It’s about 6:49 here. It’s going down. It was higher before. So just in using the propane heater on low. It does go a little longer. I hope you liked the video. And have subscribed to my KZfaq channel. Just trying to make my KZfaq family grow. Stay warm

I bought the red dye kerosene last week from a gas station (getting hard to find a station that carries it). It was $5.49 per gallon. It does stink if you spill some, but being careful, the odor is not an issue.

I think the price of a new kerosene heater is well worth it. Considering you won't have to change the wick for years, the cost per year for the hardware is minimal.

Hello. The space I’m using looks small. Your only seeing one part of it. It’s very long. I only use K1 kerosene. It does help with the smell. I don’t stay in there long. Also. There is some draft that comes in. But if you feel like your getting a headache. Open a door. Or window to get some air in. Hope you have subscribed to my KZfaq channel. Thanks for watching

I’m going on a camping trip in February. Been looking at ways to heat the tent. Think I’m going with a kerosene heater. I’ve been worried about ventilation but now that I think about it, it shouldn’t be a issue. Me personally think kerosene is better because you can get it damn near every gas station. Can’t do that with propane

say what??? !!!!!!!!!!!! where do you live?????? i live in Oklahoma, and NO gas stations sell Kerosene,, but every place sells 20 pound propane tanks,, even drug stores.and hardware stores ,and grocery stores..hardware stores sell kerosene ,but they want 10$ a gallon..in a tent propane will turn it into a shower with water dripping down, kero wont..for inside a tent a small 8 wick chinese stove/heater for 25$ will work, it uses 100% cotton wicks which you can burn Diesel in ,which is half price of kero or propane..and you can get Diesel anywhere..

Propane has 92,000 BTUs per gallon, and kerosene has 120,000+ BTUs per gallon. Propane creates huge quantities of water vapor during combustion. An easy cost/price comparison is expressed in cost per million BTUs, 10.86 gallons of propane, and 8.33 gallons of kerosene provide 1 million BTUs. One BTU equals the heat from a wooden "farmers' match".

1 gallon of propane produces 91,452 BTU. Kerosene 135,000 BTUs per gallon. Butane 130,000 BTUs per gallon. Natural Gas 100,000 BTUs per gallon. Electric space heat at 1500 Watts is 5118 BTUs.

Been camping with Mr. Buddy hooked to hose with large tank.I leave the propane tank outside of tent and unzip a tent window an inch or two for air. I also bring carbon monoxide detector. You should turn it off before sleeping.. but I don't. Sometimes, the weather is in the 20's° and Mr. Buddy heater and warm sleeping bags work.
