Bro, I have been chipping on my carpet all week. Struggling for consistency, watching youtube videos on chipping and trying things - mostly unsuccessfully! the tip from this video that worked immediately for me is opening the club face on the backswing.

I feel like the part that you are doing, but didn’t talk about, is the slightly open club face at address which allows the bounce to work easier. Similar to teaching bunker shots.

To comment on one of your recent shorts, it is not true that you cannot swing without rotating the face of the club. I chip in a linear fashion, it gives great accuracy as the ball will always go straight. I can also make a swing and compress the ball, it only has to be shorter, i.e. 1/2 or 3/4. It has been proven that most amateurs would be better off with a shorter swing which gives better control, is easier, and does not reduce distance that much.

@@topgolf7215 The traditional way of chipping is rotary, like in the long game golf swing. It requires timing and you might send the ball left or right of the target. The other method, which I use, is linear, the ball always goes straight even on bad shorts. If you put a golf club on the ground behind the ball on the target line, in the backswing and the downswing, the club face will stay above the club/target line. The technique is as follows: feet together, parallel to the target line, clubface on the floor close to the feet, the shaft is almost vertical (see Pete Cowen videos on chipping) because what is on a vertical axis will return to the same place. Ball in the middle of the feet, to use the bounce and have a large largin of error. In the backswing, the lead hand goes under the trail hand. In the backswing, the trail leg straightens, in the downswing, the lead leg straightens. Chipping and bunker shorts have a rythm : one-and-two. One in the backswing, "and-two" in the downswing. "And-two" together take the same amount of time as one. After impact, the club face travels on the target line and finishes facing the sky. You must rotate your torso, and it must finish the swing facing the target.
