Mark your attention to little details in this series is bang on for the video teaching format. A beginner following this series should have no problems with becoming a competent kettlebeller in a relatively short period of time. I wish this series of videos was available 4 years ago when I started kettlebelling. Lots of trial and error and smacked forearms before I found a competent coach and then your videos. All the best to you sir!!

This newspaper trick reminds me of a roll towel under the arm my physical therapists had me do for rotator cuff shoulder rehab doing band exercises if you Drop the towel, that signaled you had started using bigger muscles to compensate for weak rotator cuff.

We would use this drill (using a small towel, water bottle or even a folded up belt) to teach a proper ippon seoi nage in judo.

Great tip! If you have trouble keeping your shoulders square and down , it can be helpful to put the newspaper, or naturalist literature, under the opposite arm

Thanks so much for this video! I've been hitting myself pretty hard with the kettlebell and have some hefty bruising on both arms from not cleaning correctly. "Newspaper" drill has worked a charm to keep me from hurting myself with bad form and improper technique. I am really enjoying this series of videos and am wicked stoked that you've taken the time to put them all together. Looking forward to learning more and building my solid foundation.

Over the last 18 months or so, I've worked up to 20kg C&P, but I know my technique isn't perfect, and still get some light bruising on my wrists. Thank you for sharing this series of specific regressions and drills to review and refine the basics. Just tried the newspaper drill with a 10kg kettlebell and it was strangely harder with my dominant hand. Always good to expose gaps in movement so we know what to work on.

@Mark I just wanted to give you another positive update. I just finished a nerd math swing session. This is my 2nd cycle; did a cycle with a 12kg and now working with a 14kg. I'm nearing the end of this cycle where I'm at 10x18 EMOM. Based on the rough time I had with the previous workout, I thought I was in for it tonight. Well turns out I was wrong ! I think I just discovered a big movement flaw and as soon as I corrected it, I found that I endured this workout better than my last one. Really looking forward to applying this technical correction to my next workout to finish out the cycle and all swing workouts from here on out. I feel like I finally unified my structure, movement and breathing for the kb swings ! Thanks again as always ✌

Hmmm. I've got C&P to do today. Might give this a try during warm-ups, just to check-in, make sure I'm okay. I don't have any pain at the catch, but I bet I'm pushing too far out on the negative.

Hi... love the kettlebell videos! So what do you do if tour kettlebells are NOT competition style? All the vid I've seen call out the proper rack position. That impossible w/ the other standard kettlebells. I ruin my wrist if I try the "proper" rack position w/ my kettlebells
@shantanusapru
@shantanusapru Жыл бұрын
Hi Jake! I'm sure MW can answer this in a better manner, but here are my 2 cents: It does not matter if the KB is hard style or competitions style. The form remains the same. The issue with hard style bells is that (a) they are non-standard in the size of their window & handle, and handle thickness, and (b) due to this it becomes a bit of an adjustment when one moves between weights. However, the form cues & end positions remain the same. The goals should be to achieve the form/positions that Mark has demo'd in so many videos (incl. this one). Of course, this is easier learnt (neurologically speaking) with competition KB due to their constant geometry/size & similar weight distribution & balance (as opposed to the hard style KBs, which also vary widely from company/brand to company/brand - thus, if using hard styles, better to stick to one brand/known brands). Hope this helps.
@jakehayes1345
@jakehayes1345 Жыл бұрын
@@shantanusapru Thanks a lot for your detailed response. The problem I have is the following the straight wrist when racking the kettlebell. II cannot have the proper straight wrist form since the bell rests right on my wrist joint. The geometry just doesn't work out... unless I use a bell that is way too heavy for me. Otherwise the bell rests right on my wrist joint and it hurts like hell.
@hazelmaines2040
@hazelmaines2040 Жыл бұрын
@@jakehayes1345 have you tried the correct wrist form and handle position but with open hand so that the fingers point straight to the sky at the top? Then close the grip for the rest of the movement.
@jakehayes1345
@jakehayes1345 Жыл бұрын
@@hazelmaines2040 No I haven't. Thank you! I will try that today... I think I also need to move up to a heavier kettlebell. The dimensions change and the bell doesn't rest on my wrist. I just need to watch my form w/ the heavier weight. Thanks!
@shantanusapru
@shantanusapru Жыл бұрын
@@jakehayes1345 Hmmm.... Well, to my untrained eye, and without knowing you, it looks like there might be three reasons possible (not necessarily mutually exclusive): 1) everyone has unique anatomy, esp. the wrist length, width, distance from base of thumb etc) -- I have no 'fix'/solution for that; 2) the window size/length in your KB is not 'standard' (which happens more often with hard style bells) -- my 'fix' for that is to get a standard bell from a standard company, or try a competition style bell; 3) your rack form/position of handle in palm is not optimal -- my 'fix' for that is to learn the correct technique by watching such videos (& try & adapt them to your anatomy, if necessary) & practise it with a lighter bell -- lots of great technique videos from MW, as well as others... Hope that helps. Sorry not to be of more (or more specific) help... Good luck!

I’m wondering if there IS a kb move that purposely cast the bell out to the front like the top of a swing and then absorbing the kbs force with a soft catch at the top almost like with a heavy club type body movement… soft legs and maybe slight torso rotation?
