You sir!!!! This is how to show an engineer what to fix!

Thank you for your generous tutorial. My Keurig Duo was clogged with debris from my water filter! Rock hard little pieces that prohibited any/all water flow. The machine was only a little over a month old & I tried everything to unclog it. At the time, I had no idea what caused the clog. It was several months later that I saw white particles in a glass of water and put it together. Fast forward about a year - I was working in my garage and saw the Keurig box. I thought, “surely there is a way to get inside and clean the debris out of the system”. I watched a couple of videos but not until I found yours did I have the confidence to get after it. Mine is a bit different from yours but the process was close to the same. Wow! After sitting for months with vinegar in the system, I was able to disconnect a couple of hoses/tubes and blow out the watery vinegar - along with milky debris. Before putting it back together, I plugged it in and voilà! It works beautifully! Thank you again for your help. I am grateful.

Mine was making small amounts of coffee on the pot side and full cups on the k-cup side.. after hours of trying different solutions these videos shared, nothing worked.. took it apart and blew the vent tube out with compressed air, works perfect now!

Thanks for this video. Mine was showing the 'Add Water'. After watching this video I was able to take it apart and do some testing. I blew out the vent tube then put the tank on temporarily and saw the water rise in the tube. I tested continuity across the leads at the water level sensor (you have to disconnect the cable from the board first or you will get a false positive) and had continuity so I put it back together and it is working now.

Great video. Had a add water light when reservoir was full. Found out the vent was clogged. Cleared it and it worked. 👍

Thanks for this! mine seems to have a clog. I did remove the five screws from the bottom, but was unable to pry the shield off. After watching your video, I feel I will be able to do that and it looks fairly simple inside, as far as the tubes go. I am hopeful that I will get it working again!

At 7 42 of this video it shows some type of pump I think.I took the clear hose off at the bottom and slid it thru to the other side where it runs into the tank that heats the water.That hose was full of calcium deposits .I then took a greenish plastic closeline that has wire in the middle and cut off an inch of plastic at the end exposing the wire.I then ran this thru the hose to clean it out. I then ran the hose back thru(I USED A NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS AND SCREWDRIVER) and hooked it up and amazingly the coffeemaker actually works. Thanks for this video showing me how to open this thing up..

Thank you for the video, it was very helpful 👍!! Thought I might share my experience, fixing mine (yes, yes I did!) hoping it too may help someone. So I tore into it, little plastic ears flying like shrapnel, then I put the claw hammer down, jk. Once I had the shrouds removed, I noticed the check valve device (which can be seen at 4:23 attached to the water intake) was dark looking, like some foreign matter was in it. You may be wondering what it was; algae maybe…mold possibly….hmm, something impervious to white vinegar, possibly black calcium…no no that is not a thing….dark matter!?! No, freakin’ coffee grounds. How in the blankety-blanking-blank-blank did they get in there!! Me, bleary eyed, oafishly making coffee at the crack of dawn!? I think not…as I give the rest of my family side eye…regardless it needs fixing, and I’m just the guy to get very frustrated and drop kick the damn thing in the yard and shoot it with my shotgun; but I’m a tightwad…so I take it apart and commence to shake, and blow, and squirt, and spray, and cuss, and wiggle, and pray, and beg….finally taking tweezers, pulling down on the spring loaded diaphragm; whilst simultaneously running water and chanting an incarnation I got it empty of grounds!! Yay me!! So I reassemble everything annnnnnd, it now does nothing. I begin to think, well coffee is expensive, and caffeine can be mildly addictive, and I’d rather be doing something else: no-no, man up and get the claw hammer out, then go to Wal-mart for the next victim…yeah, but I’m a tightwad. So back in I go. I remove a hose, and prime the heating reservoir, and try to purge air, from where it had been turned upside down when removing the screws. WARNING: ⚠️ do as I say, and not as I do-things attempted in this comment are not to be emulated in your home. ⚠️WARNING. So with the shroud off, I plug it up. Yes mom, I know it’s dangerous…and when I get done with this, I’m gonna run up and down the stairs with scissors in both hands!!(warning, don’t do that either)

A couple notes!! First of all thank you for the video. The bottom part to get off was a little confusing from the video. After removing the screws, that piece will SLIDE to be removed. No need to pry. If the machine was in its normal position on your counter it would slide straight down towards the counter, in that direction. The part where you use a pick to get the two caps off to access the screws, I just used some strong duct tape pushed down on the circle piece and pulled them straight out. Now, that same piece with only two screws holding it in should then be removed AFTER the top piece is removed. Or you will break the little tabs on it. If you break them like I did, not the end of the world though. My problem was the top vent hole had a film over it not allowing it to vent. It does seem like that top piece might be able to be removed without taking the whole thing apart by sliding it straight backwards if you’re in front of your machine on the counter in its normal position. But not positive. It just looked like it when I was observing it. Hope this helps!

The reason for the coffee maker brewing a low amount compared to the selected is due to scale buildup. Watched best buy repairman take mine apart and we found that many tubes and the water reservoir looked quite similar in appearance to plaque clogged arteries. They replace the thing due to how clogged mine was

Here's the problem with diminishing production - 10 yields 8, 8 yields 6 and slowly a trickle or nothing at all. If you have hard water, and mine must be among the worst in the world, lime will form at the bottom of the heating barrel, like a layer of white mud. This in turn will plug the opening where the tube runs from the bottom of the heating barrel to the pump. And the water can't be pumped. Moreover, the tube will also silt up full of white mud because when the pump stops, there is no check valve and some of the water will drain from the heating until back into the tube. If you want to clean the mud out, you must remove the heating unit. It comes apart in two halves by means of a series of machine screws. You can then clean it and the tube. But to get the heating unit out is a devil. You must split the plastic case of the machine into 2 pieces so you can separate them, like opening a book. The plastic case, once the screws are removed as you illustrate, is held in by plastic tabs. You must find them all and pop them so the top and bottom (2 pieces of the machine) separate. Then you have to pull some of the wires and rubber hoses that prevent you from getting them apart. At that point, you can get at the heating unit. If attempting any of this, make sure you label all the tubes and any wires separated so you know where they go. While I did this, I did a wretched job. Thankfully, this video helped me figure out the last 2.

Thanks for the disassembly video. I found the very small six contact flat ribbon cable at the lower board, that goes to the control board up top had a burnt out trace at the lower connection. Causing no power at the control board up top. I verified by scraping away the contact insulation at the trouble end, very difficult to do, and re-engaging. The clock and buttons returned, but I was unable to make all the functions return. I was not able to get all the ribbon cable contacts cleared of insulation. I'll try to replace the ribbon or substitute next.

Any advice on how to fix the carafe warming plate?

Thanks, took mine apart and metered one side of the wall plug to where it mounts on the circuit board, after it goes through the thermal fuse. It had no continuity so my thermal fuse is open. Ordered one online.

i have a 5100 which wont power on at all just like yours. i might try and find a used board if it's worth my time. but i can desolder and solder easily if i knew the exact component, aside from a smc chip of course.

Hi, I have a k duo 5100 that will power on and size cups blinks and are selectable , the start button is blinking but when start, instead of the slow glow doesn't do the gradual bright to dim as our other does and doesn't recognize if tank is full or empty and can't power off. after normal time that should have made a cup, the size goes off and select cup or pot alternates again and can select and start again but doesn't heat or pump. Either the cup or carafe. suggestions?

Love the video mines stopped turning on today. I did opened it trying to find a restart button and no luck. Will have my husband see this video to see if we find the answers.

I love my keurig it’s a duo k cup but for the last week not long after I turn it on it starts to over heat and smoke comes out so I quickly unplug it. Is there any fixing it?

How to you reconnect hose at the bottom of water tank

The "box" at 4:26 has a spring actuated valve at the end, the black circle part has one as well. If I have the box and black parts in my hand as one unit disconnected from the tubes, and if I blow though it's intakes. What should I expect it to do? I believe my was jammed. Thanks, I currently have my keurig in bits, it stopped working 8 days outside of warranty! 😂😂😂 also it might be dumb but is your ribbon wire that goes from the circuit board to the controls on the lid disconnected?

My duo is spewing water in the k-cup side all the time, I assume the water pump has some junk in it or it is broken.

@JustADad How about you have been successful in repairing the coffee maker? I have exactly the same problem, the thermostat works and passes power, I disconnected and connected everything and everything looks fine, thanks for the help.

Is there 2 pumps on a kurig,? The pump filling the reservoir works great, HOWEVER, when it pumps water to the coffee pod it starts fast, then slows to a trickle ( I tested it by removing the top, and pried off the plastic hose, everything is very clean, and tested the water flow coming directly from the clear plastic hose. Water uns fast for 3 seconds, then slows to a drip. Any suggestions?

I took mine apart and cleared the vent tube put it all back together and now only the lights come on but it won't do anything

At 7:08. The 8 pin IC chip (U4) is fried. The IC chip is bubble on top from overheated. This circuit board ( where U4 is resided) looks like a low voltage power supply around 12VDC. It supplies the OMRON 12VDC relay, a small black square box, next to larger white OMRON 12VDC relay. Just get the small 110V to 12V DC wall plug, can be either transformer type or switching power supply (much lighter in weight, and small to fit the space). Remove the circuit board. Solder 110V side to large black and red wires and output 12VDC to small black (Negative) and red (positive) wires. I bet a dollar to donut, the coffee maker will work again.

I have the opposite of the common problem you mentioned: if I select 8oz it brews 10oz or more, if I select 10oz it almost overfill very large mugs, and the coffee/water ratio is whacky.

I just had the same failure with the same model. It's just dead. I called Keurig and they replaced it, but I was hoping there might be an easy fix for the broken one. I guess not...

You have to use distilled water or you get sediment in hose system which makes the water regulation system faulty. So you won't get proper water quantities.

I've got a rather peculiar issue with a K-Duo. The air pump will not energize. I can use my DC benchtop supply and energize the pump and it will run just fine, forcing the selected amount of water through the lines before the shutoff valve stops the flow of water. I've disconnected the air pump and tested for power at the actual socket on the logic board, and I get around 11.8VDC when the machine sends the signal to engage the air pump. If I have the air pump connected, and I attempt to measure voltage at the leads at the top of the pump, I get nothing. I've ruled out the wiring harness by desoldering it from the pump and measuring voltage at the ends when the machine sends the signal to engage the air pump and I get the same 11.8VDC. I've also tested inserting some solid copper wires into the female socket of the wiring harness and have successfully powered the pump with the benchtop supply set at 11.8VDC. I'm incredibly stumped.

ever have any luck figuring out why the carafe side doesn't make as many cups as it should? I've got mine torn apart trying to troubleshoot the dang thing!

My Duo won’t power on, then it will and the clock and the U under the K flash and the power light is steady. The clock won’t set and the othe buttons won’t do anything. Then it won’t turn off, and after a while it does. I’m thinking it’s the motherboard.

I’ve had the problem of not getting the amount of water selected. I found it was due to overfilling my reservoir.

I know this comment is completely irrelevant to the topic at hand but I couldn’t help but notice your fingernails. A lot can be said about a persons health based on their fingernails alone. Judging from your healthy lunula 🌛 (half moon shape) at the base of your nail indicates that it’s likely you do not have vitamin deficiencies, kidney problems, inflammatory or metabolic illness, lung or heart disease, diabetes, fungal infection or even depression. 😊

So mine looks like this one and it stopped pumping water. I took it apart and it seems like the pumps are working fine I just don't know how to fix it. It's not taking water out of the tank.
