Producer Kevin Feige (President, Marvel Studios) talks about how he got his start in the movie business in this exclusive conversation with Deadline's Awards Columnist and Chief Film Critic, Pete Hammond.
Recorded June 9, 2018 at the Produced By Conference in Los Angeles. Sponsored by Pinewood Atlanta Studios.
ABOUT:
The Producers Guild of America is a non-profit trade organization that represents, protects and promotes the interests of all members of the producing team in film, television and new media.
The Guild invests in its core values that benefit the industry at large. These values are rooted in facilitating employment of its members, advocating for sustainable practices in production that minimize human and environmental harm, ensuring a set culture that advances safety and creates viable pathways into the guild for the next generation of producers, particularly those from populations under-represented in the industry. Year-round it hosts a number of educational, mentoring and professional networking programs.

Couple of very interesting things from this interview: 1. The fact that he saw Phantom Menace 13 times in a movie theater would imply that he really liked that movie. Curious, to say the least. 2. I had always thought that Kevin Feige was a lifelong Marvel fan. The fact that he never read comics growing up, and is now in charge of the creative direction of pretty much every non-DC superhero movie and show is… again, interesting.

Want to find out about more with Marvel during their days leading up to the original X-Men film with Avi Arad and how no one at the company other than him wanted to take the characters into films, check out the book "Comic Wars..." by Dan Raviv. It's basically the story of how Ron Perelman bought the company and his think tank ran it into the ground trying to squeeze and siphon money out of it, how Carl Ichan attempted a hositle Takeover and how Avi Arad and Ike Perlmutter at Toybiz did their best to now get swallowed up and ultimately got control of the company. There is a Hardcover and a Softcover. The Softcover was reprinted around 2 years later and has two extra chapters.

Disney is exactly what helps the realise their full potential. They release so many movies and shows a year with such a big budget bc Disney helps them. Only the projects for 2021 are over 1 billion US dollars combined. Bc Disney have a lot of money.
