@@jonnyarnett Jonny, firstly, Happy New Year! 2020 is finally over and thank you so much for helping me get through this horrible year, secondly, I disagree heavily, you didn't even touch the most important aspect of Dirk's legendary career which was the 2011 playoff run, According to SRS, that playoff run is the the 6th toughest playoff run ever. What is even more impressive is the fact that dirk beat lebron and his big three and kobe and the lakers (Although kobe was hurt and pau played questionably). That 2011 run is what people will remember in the future. You're the underdog, competing in the tough western conference against the reigning champions, you sweep them, and then you beat an upcoming squad of 3 mvps. With no other all star, Dirk Stepped up on the biggest stage of basketball, beating the big three, with wade bosh and bron. In my humble opinion dirk is better than kevin garnett Dirk played with almost no help his entire career, and yet never complained whereas KG won a title with 3 other hall of famers. I agree that the gap in defense is extraordinarily large, but you cant ignore the fact that Dirk BEAT Lebron and Kobe in the same playoff run. That to me, singlehandedly, makes him better than KG.

I'm taking Dirk easily. I understand KG has the significant edge defensively, however the amount of success Dirk was able to see even with not that much talent around him is just pure insanity. Best player on 3 60+ win teams, best player on a bunch of 50+ win teams, and of course, led them to a championship as the only all star. It is honestly insane how well Dirk carried the Mavericks throughout his career. In comparison to Garnett, who in Minnesota, didn't find much success at all. I understand he was lacking good talent around him, but the talent around Dirk had around him was also not that good. So in my opinion, I think Dirk is 100% greater. That's just my take. As usual, people forget that Dirk was part of the 2 historic chokes in back to back seasons. 2005-06: Led Dallas to a 60 win record and made it to the Finals vs the 52 win Heat. Led 2-0 vs Heat then lost the next 4 when Wade took over. 2006-07: Led Dallas to a 67 win record. Lost to the 8th seed Warriors in the 1st round. KG's Minnesota teams were shit and were underdogs, but for 1 season, which was KG's MVP season, he led the T-Wolves to the #1 seed with 58 wins and led them to the Conference Finals only to lose in 6 games to #2 seed Lakers with 57 win that had Shaq and Kobe. KG never choked, but when he had the #1 seed, he lost admirably to the better team. A 1 win difference is basically equal.

@SolitudeAwaits 9 ай бұрын
@@rob19ny casual spotted. To say that he never choked is ridiculous. From 1996 - 2004; during his prime, he only made it out in the 1st round once. Guess what? Cause he simply can't carry s team when he is needed the most. He is better as a 2nd or 3rd option in scoring while being the beat defender. Dirk on the other hand lead the team to 2 NBA Finals as the #1 option with no other allstar. In short, KG never choked because he is already choking in the 1st round. For someone who is the best all around defender at his position, he could never lead a team to 3 60+ wins. You can't say that about Dirk

The Mavericks had a very good team through the early 2000s till like 2013. Dirk played with Michael Finley, Nash and Van Exel for years. @Tong Zou how was dirks cast good in 2011? 33 year Marion and 38 year old Jason Kidd? Deshawn Stevenson played good defense but he wasn’t an all star. Brendan Haywood was 7 feet tall and that’s pretty much it. Dirk owned Garnett during their head to head playoff matchup in 2002. Garnett’s a great defender but during that series Dirk scored on KG as if nobody was there. It was painful for me to watch since I was rooting for Garnett over a still unknown European player at the time.

Many people have forgotten how great of an offensive player that KG was earlier in his career with Minnesota. He was more of a defensive player after he made the move to Boston because that is more of what that team needed from him. KG is an all-time 2 way player and maybe the most intense player to ever play. Dirk helped to revolutionize the league into the three point fest that we see today. He also changed the prospects of so many of the European players as it was not really until after Dirk's success did looking at players from Europe really become a viable option. In the end, KG's exceptional ball-on defense as well as his galvanizing of his teams defense wins out in this one for me.

Dirk beat Kobe/gasol/Bynum, then harden/westbrook/Durant, then bosh/Wade/lebron...... with ZERO all stars on his team!!!!! Even lebron can't win a title with zero all stars on his team. Dirks scoring efficiency is unmatched by KG or almost anyone for that matter. Garnett doesn't have a finals mvp for a reason - he needed Pierce and Ray Allen to carry him. I'll give KG defense but just look at the numbers when it matters - 25.5 ppg in the playoffs for dirk..... 18 ppg in the playoffs for KG! KG didn't have the skill set to lead a team deep into the playoffs by himself. Dirk did it multiple times. If the refs don't hand the title to Wade in 2006 over dirk this isn't even a conversation. I like stars of the past because literally every one could fit on any team. Not the same for some stars now a days (harden, simmons, westbrook, kyrie, etc). They have to build whole systems to make/get the best out of them. Not that that really matters, I just find it interesting. This verses is real close, but contrary to popular belive I'm taking Dirk. Though KG is much better at defense, I like how much Dirk bring shooting/floor spacing, not that KG couldnt space the floor but he just isnt close in that area. I value that 2011 championship too, he won the finals being the lone superstar on that team, and he was in the playoff (correct me if I'm wrong) every year of the 2000s which was the hardest west ever. And he wasn't just there, he came close to going to the finals on multiple occasions, cant say the same about KG ( even though his teams were trash ) KG is a better ceiling raider while Dirk is the better floor raiser

And yet, here we are, with Dirk being above Garnett in the NBA 75. Garnett is an amazing defensive player, and a solid offensive player, but it just doesn't match the value of a 7ft long range machine like Dirk. If your team is lacking heavily in the defensive department, KG is the choice for sure. However, if your team already has decent/good defense, there's no doubt Dirk is the choice to be made. KG required a super team to win a Ring, and Dirk beat out one of the best super teams in history in arguably the hardest title run ever (it's possible Dirk should've also won in 2006, if the "rigged" claims from a former Ref are true). Stats are important of course, but if stats were everything, Russel Westbrook would be a top 20 player all-time. Context is key when it comes to basketball, this isn't 2K

If we are talking one one one, prime Barkley would savage these other players, he was to quick, had good handles and even tho being much shorter he could elevate, had a better shooting percentage and was a better career rebounder than all of those guys.. He killed young Garnett and Duncan when he was in his mid 30s, a Philly version of Barkley would too much.

I respectfully disagree with KG being over Dirk because KG was on some trash Wolves teams during the 2000s but Dirks teams weren’t much better. And Dirk led his team to be a competitive playoff team every year while KG and the wolves were questionable even make the playoffs every year. I also believe that Dirk’s 2011 ring was more impressive than anything that KG ever did or accomplished by a lot.

Dirk had so many allstars and fringe allstar caliber teammates throughout the late 90s/early 2000s: Steve Nash, Michael Finley, Josh Howard, Nick Van Exel, etc. Compared to KGs best Twolves teammates: Wally Szczerbiak, an old Sam Cassell, and a twilight years post-choking of PJ Carlisimo Latrell Sprewell. I love Dirk, but KG is the better overall player imo.

@@TheriotProductions KG unlike Dirk had a future Finals mvp alongside him.. Part of Minnesota not being able to bring in talent had to do with KG eating up much of the salary cap when he signed to be the highest player in the nba. You missed the part where garnett missed the playoffs 3 straight time in the middle of his prime or when he got bounced out in the first round 7 yrs in a row. What Dirk lacked defensively you can make up for it with team defense, but you CANNOT replace what he brought to the offensive side. Dirk’s offensive presence made people like Jason Terry and JJ Barea household names and spread the floor for cutters and penetrators, which is the only reason the Mavs won that title in 2011 and punk’d the 2010 champs.
