It's true, and even worse than just that. People's standards are so much higher for what is good enough for them to care and pay attention. And they seem to enjoy purposely finding every little flaw or mistake or point to disagree with as a reason to throw that person off a cliff and complain about them toxically. It's like interacting online went from this miraculous, mysterious new world full of openness and acceptance, and community of creation, to a place of hatred and spite and being unbearably rigid. I keep internet use low and avoid these toxic environments so I can stay healthy, and not be dragged down by people whose favorite hobbies are outrage and misery.

Amen, same here generally. I try to use it in a minimalistic fashion. I got drawn in to use it for more purposeful sharing of resources and discussion on the topics I'm passionate about, as a youth advocate and so forth, but I've found that I really can't stand social media and most people either don't care or react really angry and toxic. It's actually not that much different from regular daily life. If you have something important to present... save your energy for people who may actually care and provide some value. I've found the best way to find the right people is to seek organizations and projects locally, in person who are doing something in line with your values and goals. Then become their number one supporter. Over time, you will become more known and have a genuinely good reputation. Social media is just a tool, like a hammer. I don't use a hammer constantly, obsessively. Just occasionally, briefly, as needed. Cheers my dude ;)

@BenjiQ5755 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I think we should put this into perspective. Most of history are repeating cycles of slightly increasing complexity. Social media is here for the first time, ever. VERY RARELY do people know what to do the first time they ever do something. They fumble and make mistakes, and then they figure out the style of using it that works for them best. The concern I have for social media is not that it's inherently bad, but that it may be a technology that levels itself out eventually, but can cause real damage in the short term. Cars only running on fossil fuel for 100 years is a good example of this. Electric and hydrogen cars were being developed alongside early cars, but they were not developed as early as they could, because they were dominated by the fossil fuel car industry, due to the massive demand from the two World Wars. Smartphones may be the electric cars and social media the fossil fuel cars in this situation. Social media is so attractive that there's a varying degree of how many people get duped by it. If smartphones develop faster than social media, we will probably develop better ways of stashing it while we live our lives, rather than having it at the forefront. I think smartphones will improve society, we're just learning to ride this bike for the first time.

It has been said a million times and it will likely be said a million more: it isn't the technology, it's the society using the technology. We could use this tech any way that we wish. We could reengineer and repurpose tech any way that we wish. Yet we're surrounded by fake outrage, false identities, negativity, a lack of common courtesy, and the list goes on and on. The technology didn't influence us. It never did and it never will. WE influenced us. Human curiosity pushes boundaries and people follow other people. Ideas become popular in the public and a norm is established. But the cause for allegiance to these ideas comes from a social place. Tech allows for options. What we do with these options is self-imposed. Social contracts are far stronger and far more prevalent than people have even begun to think. Change the public, the world will fall in line.

@positiveecho3265 жыл бұрын
I agree that people now are much worse, buuuttt I think we were moving in a much more positive direction in the nineties. Sure you had the grandma brigade protesting Manson and Harry Potter, but the mainstream was about free speech, free expression, acceptance of all people, unity, egalitarianism, individualism, fairness, and meritocracy. We believed in challenging ideas and hearing out even the most controversial ones, we valued facts and the truth. Those were all 90’s values, but quite a few of the above things are labeled as white supremacy because they have origins in the Enlightenment. Quite a bit of the groundwork we laid in the 90’s has been abandoned for something much worse, imo.

I’ve always liked Kevin Hart. Now, I like the guy even more and respect him. Nice to hear this conversation w Joe Rogan and how down to earth he is on a personal level. We do the same thing with our cell phones too. Home, personal time is just that. Get off your phones and interact with humans.

I realize that Kevin Hart is intelligent. But in his own right. Like i can see how he can stay so positive, which is great, but I feel like it requires a certain level of obliviousness. I noticed this when joe Rogan was starting to talk about technology, privacy and our future. It’s as if Kevin didn’t really understand what Joe was referring to. It’s like the more you know, the harder it is to be optimistic and happy. At the same time it requires a deep level of spirituality to overcome that dark view of the life and the world when you wake up. It requires the right wisdom and knowledge.
