A quick analysis of one of my favourite riffs in Australian rock.
Apart from being a great fun song to play, Elephant can teach us a lot more than you might first think.
It is modelled on a pretty standard old blues shuffle, but twists it into something new and a bit confusing, through turning the rhythmic phrase upside down. It even includes a Phrygian passage!
I played this one on my Gibson "The Paul", in drop D tuning, and was joined by my sons Miles and Indi on drums and bass. Thanks lads!!
