If a person is in the public realm for example an athlete be it a footballer or a rugby player some verbal abuse is to be expected. It might have something to do with some players in the Premier League earning more than £300,000 per week with endorsements on top of their wages. The money involved in professional sport explains most but perhaps not all the verbal abuse professional athletes are subjected to. The comments about the Catholic Church of the past I can relate to having attended a Catholic school. The RE teachers were insane. We had an RE teacher in years 7 and 8 who heard voices from God and saw tongues of fire over the pupils heads. Mr. Thompson the most insane RE teacher in history. The other teachers called him Mad Bob and he had been allocated an annex away from the main school block adjacent to the perimeter fence as the other teaches could not handle his insane preaching. Unfortunately the pupils sitting in front of him did not have the option of being reallocated to a different part of the school. His calling to become an RE teacher had been when he visited Rome and upon walking into St Peters Square dropped to his knees heard voices from God and choirs of Angels singing and St Peters Basilica went up in flames this being the Holy Spirit and God told him to become an RE teacher. This is scary stuff and this bloke then taught RE in a school in Birmingham for more than 20 years. Only people who attended a Catholic school can grasp the true significance of Father Ted. The Catholic Church never left the Middle Ages. The Church of England never left the Victorian Era. Thus both institutions have disappeared form mainstream British and Western society. Survival of the Fittest is Adaption and Change. If you do not Adapt and Change you die. This applies to social institutions as well as biological organisms. The Catholic Church and the Church of England did not adapt and Change thus have disappeared from mainstream society.

This isn't the case of a foreigner being raised here, with cultural influences and preference for both parents foreign culture over anything Irish. His dad was foreign, yes, but seriously there are exceptions to the rule when the man/woman actually has an Irish parent, or the kid was adopted and raised by two Irish parents, they're Irish because their families are literally Irish. What people are concerned about are culturally incompatible peoples mass emigrating here and shoving their own values and cultures in over us and too many foreigners arriving here.
