It used to be that nerds would love women to join nerd culture… now it’s like we are at the mercy of the SJW crowd whenever we draw a mini skirt on a D&D concept in the 15th source book for the MtG universe…

The difference is, we wanted them to join us. The SJWs want us to join them. The condition was that they sit down, shut up, and laugh and enjoy the stupid show about a don't-ask-don't-tell legally safe Conan fighting a bodybuilding skeleton man who lives in a mountain with a snake coming out of it. Same thing with comic books. Fuck off, and enjoy things for what they currently are, instead of forcing the creators to pander to your tastes. The thing people don't get, is EVERYONE was always welcome. The whole time. Never once have I told a chick not to come to a DnD sesh. Hell, my group has two guys and five girls. And we all just enjoy it for what it is. People need to learn that if something doesn't appeal to their sensibilities, to just fuck off and find something that does. Kevin Smith could make his own swords and sorcery show with a female lead. There's definitely a market for it. Like, a show about a black guy who's kind of like Superman? Yeah, that has potential. I'll check it out. But call him "Superman", and you can take your show and use it as a supository.

@@nicksrandomreviews Meh, I'm kinda fine with people using the moniker of other superheroes as long as it'sa different person. Superheroes can't stay the same forever, this is factual. Especially since time also flows in the stories and there are different universes. I just hate how they are handled, race swapped especially. Don't have the same personality/aspirations and ESPECIALLY don't call them the same name (Clark Kent). I'm black so I guess my opinion doesn't count BUT Miguel O'Hara is an exceptional spiderman. He's fucking Hispanic but that's not the main focus. He lives in the future in a different universe. Some people be mad that he's a different race (don't act like they dont exist) and I'm confused on the hate. Though most of the time we do get something like the new superman movie where it's a black Clark Kent and it has me pissed off. Pandering is ass, and like Gundam said, it doesn't make me give a fuck about the character any more than before. I don't like them cause they're the same skin color, I like them cause their personality and the plot of the story. Tdlr: As long as there are more differences with a new "Superman" than just their name and skin color, I'm cool. Doesn't guarantee I'll like them, but it gets a pass in my book.

@@c_dog3016 I can get behind that. When the Netflix anime Yasuke came around I really didn’t like it at all. People all over the internet suggested that not liking Yasuke was the same as racism. The thing was, I didn’t hate Yasuke because of anything racial or cultural. I hated it because it was a marketing bait-and-switch with a story that seemed driven to disappoint anyone who was exited for it like I was. I don’t care about skin color, make the characters from Turkmenistan for all I care. I don’t care about sexuality or gender identity. As a writer myself, when I engage with a piece of narrative media I expect a good story. So, by extension, I don’t hate ‘I’m Not Starfire’ for any other reason then it’s a poorly written young adult story that betrays the characters from DC. The same company that gave us monster hits like The Long Halloween, All-Star Superman, and the like.

One predates He-Man and is a more universally preferred character and isn't a butch lesbian. Her name is Ripley. The character regardless of sex and preferences was a perfect example of how to build a strong character. Has vulnerabilities and gets scared but always overcomes them and is the strong powerful character. Women wanted to be Ripley, Men wanted Ripley, some men wanted to be Ripley and some women wanted her. She was the perfect character and a perfect strong female character. Instead of looking at the Alien movies for inspiration they do butch lesbians or turn male characters into butch lesbians. creatively bankrupt.

The world is about to end, but instead of wanting to get laid as quickly as possible, Jay would desperately be convincing the lead female character (I can’t remember her name right now) that she was the very definition of strong womanhood and could save the world without releasing God from her mortal body. Serendipity would be the boss of a male strip club, using her muse powers to get the men to work for free. The 2 angels would be romantic partners, not just 2 angels who got stuck on earth together after getting drunk one night.

The whole "race/gender swapping" started with the SyFy version of Battlestar Galactica. They actually made it work, even though the black guy got yeeted for an Asian chick, but it only worked because they still treated the new characters with respect and they left the core characters more or less in tact. They were also well cast. Katie Sackhoff pretty much took off after BSG. But, after Syfy's rare feat, EVERYONE AND THEIR FUCKING DOG wanted to do it. Especially the "diversity and inclusion(AKA anti-white)" crowd. They were foaming at the goddamn mouth for it. Now it's all dog shit. If BSG was written today, Starbuck would still be "female", but played by Laurel Hubbard.

Speaking of strong female leads and anime, I always thought Major Motoko was an ideal archtype for strong female lead. Smart, stoic, intelligent, fiercely independent, but knows when to rely on those around and not be arrogant. She was both fiesty, and cold. Mysterious and alluring. And could kick some serious ass. No need for wokist tropes, cause good characters are above such tripe.

One good example yes, but she's just one type of personality such a character can have and a specific backround. I also like Samantha Carter from Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, and the 2 movie sequels. She was good at what she trained for, a good shot in combat, good soldier, and scientist, but even if you were only reading a script with all the gender related pronouns removed you could tell she was a woman if you tried to figure it out. the character was not written as a man, but as a woman who was the equal of any good man in a professional capacity.

@@isThreeman Mediocre's being a bit generous. As a writer the concept of Teela being traumatized by Adam's death is fine, but the execution failed to communicate her trauma in any manner but being a spoiled brat. It was all about her, all about her entitlement. Not even bothering to confront her father about keeping said secret from her. Like that could be a great conversation with Teela on a vaguely sane emotional spectrum. "You knew for years! How could you!? Damn you both, how could you do this to me?" "Teela you know why Adam made that choice. For myself I was bound by oath and duty... and by order of my prince. He gave that order to protect you, to protect his parents, to protect everyone he held dear. You were Skeletor's enemy too, he proudly fought along side you in battle... but what underhanded tricks do you think Skeletor and his ilk would take if he knew that killing you would land a grievous mortal blow again He-man? Not just striking down a capable comrade... but a valuable hostage, or hurting someone he cared about." "But I... was supposed to protect him. Was I not strong enough and you were? I could have been there more, could have helped more..." "You did everything you could. Adam championed your promotion to my replacement with a full appreciation for your skill and talent, and you would have inherited my role to Castle Grey Skull, and to He-man as well. Kevin made the same mistake that Hasbro did with the Transformers movie from a few decades ago. The one where they killed off Optimus Prime, with the idea to push a new toy line. By killing off Optimus Prime, they had upset an enormous amount of children (and with them, their parents). They were in fact in such a shock that they retconned the entire thing and brought him back. The only difference here is that at least with Hasbro, there was a business decision behind it. With this, there's no real reason. And at this point it doesn't matter if he bring back the character later in the season, the damage is already done.

I agree with ItsaGundam on how many animated western shows’ art style are very similar these days. At least for mainstream cartoons. Cartoons on Netflix, weather here in America, or from other countries, has more variety in they’re art styles. But CN (and maybe Nick) both had many shows that all looked different from each other. Though there were a few exceptions to this, as Dexter’s Lab, and PPG are similar visually. With thick, lines, pointed angular shapes and simplistic designs. Though, Genndy Tartchovsky did have a hand in both show’s styles.

I think the best point in all of this and other videos is that Smith took an established property and changed it for his purposes rather than stay true to the source material and the fans who supported it. I enjoyed this season but i was never a big fan of He-Man. So for me as a casual fan i was able to enjoy it. For everyone else this was a betrayal. Like Gundam said for what Kevin wanted to do, he should've just made his own original series and characters with Master's of the Universe being a guiding influence. Then it might've been a lot more palatable for people watching it. I would still like to see where the series go with it. I do see avenues for Adam to regain his position and stature as He-Man. I hope Evilyn sticks it to Skeletor as i think she was very cool. i like that we're getting more development and action for the smaller side characters. I don't even mind Teela getting a push early on to setup her becoming Sheera and more of an equal to Adam. Eventually though He-Man needs to be the main and needs to be top dog. Fingers crossed.

@@Gyrfalcon312 About that. If I may bring up some examples: Metal Gear Solid 1-4 exist. They include some of our real problems and addresses them in gameplay without harming the story. Metal Gear Rising exists. This game also includes some of our real problems. It is addressed in the story without harming the gameplay. As goofy as that game's story is...there were some elements I believe make for good material. XCOM Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within, XCOM 2/War Of The Chosen and even to some extent the original XCOM UFO Defense are natively diverse games because you are recruiting soldiers from around the globe with different races, cultures, and backgrounds, both male and female. That's as diverse as you can get for video games honestly and that doesn't compromise the quality of the game in any way whatsoever, especially with Long War. Fiction can include real problems and diversity but that doesn't mean it has to be overtly preachy. It can do it in a smart way. It's called knowing how to write and not be a hack as well as having good context. Those can go a long way. Star Trek classic and TNG did both of what I talked about perfectly, honestly speaking, with even having female characters that weren't shit (mostly).
@scarletrebel6924
@scarletrebel6924 2 жыл бұрын
And before I forget, I don't care for forced diversity or forced preaching about real world problems. It has to serve a purpose to the story and if it's good then let it be. This new He-Man is a pile of fecal matter, but this is also a victim of bad, blatant writing for the sake of "Rainbow Marketing". In this case it's using LGBTQ+, blacks, and women as a shield to deflect critique and as a product to squeeze money out of everyone who are such. It's manipulative and complete dog shit. But that doesn't mean you can't have fiction that does this sort of thing right.

I've felt this way about the remake they made of a show Reboot. In the original there were 2 major villains Megabyte and Hexadecimal. They fit two very obvious villain tropes. Megabyte was a planner and a schemer. His whole power set revolved around corrupting people and ruling as a tyrant. Hexadecimal was way less organized she didn't really ever have a long term plan, for her she was only ever really focused on the here and now, ignoring what might happen later. The great part of their relationship is they didn't like each other, they were barely functional allies. Megabyte didn't have her raw power, he was strong but nowhere near how destructive as Hex. What he did have is patience and determination. Hex didn't have any of his intellect many times she would get bored and abandoned her own plans. In a number of episodes she was convinced to simply give up and go home. Also near the end of the original show Hex was convinced to change and not be a virus any more. When she saw her friends were going to die so she relapsed to save them and become a virus again and that added so much more depth to her story. The new version of the show is just terrible and the villains have none of their prior depth or character. Both are just bad for the sake of being bad and both are equally strong and equally lame, it is the worst direction they could have gone in. They have no personality.
