The most classic image of the Black Panther for me is that old comic where he wrestles a rhino to the ground. When they did that in the movie I was like, “Yes! This is what I want for my comic book movies.” Give me those classic scenes.

I went with my son who is 13. When Jordan walks in to find his father and holds him my son teared up and hugged my arm. As an almost grown man, which made me tear up. GREAT MOVIE.

The quote that most touched me was T'chaka's: *A man who has not prepared his children for his death has failed as a father* !

I gotta credit Kevin Smith for the missed Black Panther reference in Spike Lee Do the Right Thing....

i was wondering why no other review mentioned Killmonger's father's line "No tears for me?" i loved that moment of realization from his father's spirit seeing what his cause ultimately did to his son; when he was unfortunately taken from him at a young age.

Man, you missed the strongest part of the Kilmonger/N'Jobu interaction. After "No tears for me?", Kilmonger actually does shed 1 single tear. That was powerful.

The most powerful part of the film to me was when he went back to the ancestral plane the 2nd time. T'challa Confronted his father and his ancestors and told them they we're wrong. He stood up to them and let them know that what they did by "preserving" Wakanda also led to the suffering of people around the world who looked just like them. How as Kevin brought out , If they hadnt done so Killmonger who had every right to be brought home wouldnt even exist the way he does. Its a lesson that while our ancestors deserve to be honored for all the sacrifices and the work they've done ... They were not perfect. And its up to us as their off spring to right their wrongs using the resources we have today. Change starts with us. We sculpt the future and move culture and the fate of our people forward NOW with bravery and leadership that benefits all people.

Did anyone else realize that was Killmonger’s father talking to his son during the story of wakanda when the movie started?

You forgot to mention the best scene from the movie: Erik Killmonger said he'd rather be buried in the ocean like when his ancestors jumped ship because they believed death is better than bondage. Epic!

that fuckin' movie made me cry in the shower the day after i saw it.Not alot of people know what its like to be black and grow up without a dad.To see a young black boy get his father snatched like that and be left behind shows what its like to live in america.

You often see in media the question: "When Will people burn out on Superhero movies?" As long as they keep giving us quality movies like Black Panther... my answer is NEVER. So great to see the combination of brilliant storytelling, brilliant acting, brilliant direction, brilliant costuming/stage dressing, brilliant music, and just overall brilliant movie making that we've been gifted with.

I love hearing Kevin talk about the MCU the way he does. So genuine and real. And it makes me feel like I am truly fortunate to be living in a time where all these fantastic movies are being made. Just great!

I can't wait to see Shuri meeting Peter Parker. I think that is going to be a great dynamic.

I'm glad Kevin isn't afraid of showing emotion. For a long time I worried about it because literally any work of art,has the potential to crush me. Now I don't care because I'd rather enjoy my life. This movie is a miracle for all the kids who never had a superhero movie they could idealize and relate to and identify with. I hope this movie makes a billion dollars so we get more Black Panther movies and more Africa movies. It’s definitely worth multiple viewings. This sits right up here with Homecoming and The Dark Knight as my favorite superhero movie.

I've been waiting for this review/rant all weekend and it didn't disappoint. I saw it Sunday night in IMAX with a jam-packed audience and absolutely loved it from start to finish. Kevin, If when u watch BP again , pay attention to the little jewels placed in the movie dealing with social times of the day. How the base for Wakanda in America is in Oakland. The birth place for the Black Panther movement in the 60's. How Killmonger also represents African Americans being abandoned by Africa (That is an issue that is talked about in certain circles) And how deep Killmongers last words are.

The actor who played young T’Chaka is actually the son of the actor who played Civil War T’Chaka.

In order to be a great BLACK Man in America’s society today you have to have a equal balance of T’Challa and Killmonger. Enough sense to see more than just your side, listen to people, understand where their mindset is, and move in a humble/royal way that’s makes people double take at you, because you showed them your more than just your skin tone. That’s the T’Challa side. The other side is being woke, not forgetting your history and where you come from, be your brothers keeper in the right way, not on some killing G’ money type shit. Be educated so that nobody can fool you, or try an throw a vail over your eyes. Having the balls to make a difference and fight for your beliefs and core values, and be outspoken unapologetically. And ultimately be willing to lay your life down if someone opposes you. That’s the Killmonger way. Both were educated, strong, and have meaningful causes behind them. Only difference was the way in which to accomplish the goal. So in turn that’s why this movie was remarkable to me. And that’s the honest truth.

Of all the scenes in the movie, this is the 1st review where someone brings up my fave scene: No tears for your father? Dude, I shed some tears on that part. Thinking about that whole scene grabs my heart. Gonna see it again for the 3rd time next week.

The CG was a bit much in certain scenes but that didn't stop me from seeing it twice. I actually liked it more a second time.

I enjoyed the film it has a great story, some of the cgi could of been better but other than that it’s a great film. Definitely recommend.

I went to see it with my wife and mother in Slovenia. My mother in law from what I was told falls asleep usually in movies. She was up the entire time. They both loved it. Now we're in Slovenia, a small country in Europe where most of it's citizens have never seen a black person in real life. Especially children. Everywhere I go there, I'm met by curious stares. So my wife tells me that after the movie ended and we left the theater, these kids see me and start pointing at me excitedly, smiling and all. It really made me smile because I can only imagine what these kids were thinking. Here they are seeing a Black superhero in his own movie for the first time and then they see me, a black man for the first time right after.

Great perspective from Kevin..... I completely agree with every point.... the social elements were wonderful especially for me but the attention to detail is what does it for me.... I love the MCU because all the movies is like one big puzzle and everything makes sense while staying true to majority of the comics..... Not taking away what it means for the culture but its really just a GREAT film.... and probably the most well thought out and perfectly executed superhero movie ever....💯

Great review, Great plug (daring to do the other side of your face). I took my daughter and we loved it. This is beyond simply a black movie. I believe it will help people to redefine the view of Africa.

Kevin, I heard about the heart attack man. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I was also elated to hear you are doing fine now. Regarding the movie, as an African American male, when T'challa falls to his knees and starts crying after he sees his father again, and T'chaka says "stand up, you are a king!" I just welled up. What a powerful message to young black males who do not understand their history. Amazing movie with a powerful positive message of hope for everyone. We can all be better if we just try to take care of our fellow man.

Wonderful review for a wonderful movie! I, too, felt tears welling up at several points in the movie. There’s something about “Black Panther” that just connects. Some parts I’ll mention that I haven’t seen mentioned... I love the fact that T’Challa’s heart aches for Killmonger at the end - even though he was a homicidal maniac. The boy never had a chance (and how many similar in the “real” world?”). I love it in the first post-credit scene when T’Challa says, “We have to start looking after each other better than we have been.” And makes me feel like we will. Even the second post-credit scene with Bucky - remember that T’Challa was trying to kill him in “Civil War” for killing his father (a mistaken assumption as he later found out). Marvel makes good movies period. Not just good super-hero movies. They’re doing now what Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did in comic book form in the 1960’s. The different character’s storylines are relevant and terrific on their own. The crossovers are da bomb. Kevin Feige is bringing the continuity to the MCU over the years that Stan & Jack did, and, along with hugely talented writers & film-makers, the quality just keeps going up. I never would have believed it possible. It can’t be a fluke after 10 years of hit after hit after hit. Wow. We ARE lucky to be alive to enjoy this! Now... let’s hope they don’t blow it all in “Infinity War.” I still remember “Return of the Jedi.”
