Staab is such a rad person. I met him and Hawk at a restaurant in Palm Springs several years back. I was seated next to them and after chatting with them, Hawk gave me his passes to the El Gato Classic they were skating at later in the day. When I arrived at the event a few hours later, Staab introduced me to a number of legends that were hanging out. My mind was blown and I’m forever grateful. 🤘🎱

@@daynmitchell7543 It's cool if you don't want to believe bc it does sound unbelievable. I sometimes still feel like it was a dream, but I still have the pass on a shelf (it was Dec 4-6, 2015). It was one of the raddest days I've had, and Hawk and Staab are two of the nicest people I've met in the skating world. Peace

@@daynmitchell7543 jealousy is such an ugly trait in a person, what is so hard to believe? It's not like the guy is gaining anything by making it up and Tony and Kevin are certainly nice enough for what he said to be the absolute truth.

@@editname4279 A handful of my buddies and myself were blessed enough to get VIP passes to every single El Gato Classic... well about half of us made all of em, I unfortunately missed the first year but made sure that I never missed another one again. It sorta makes me laugh reading what this guy said knowing first hand myself about the event, and the incredible amount of camaraderie, respect/ appreciation, and overall super positive vibe that undeniably served as one of the cornerstones to that event each and every year. The El Gato Classic is a one off deal that that if you missed, you'll likely never see the likes of again but if you were lucky enough to be there, you knew firsthand how special it truly was and not just for the fans but absolutely for all the pros in attendance as well... hats off to the Elguera Family for making that event a reality, I'm sure it wasn't easy getting all of those guys to be at the same place, and at the same time I have absolutely no doubt about your story. I've always found both of those guys to be 100% genuine, and totally approachable... but I guess haters are gonna hate right lol poor dude 🤦🏼‍♂️

Quick Staab/Soundgarden story. My son’s Godfather and one of my best friends played bass in Soundgarden (Ben). When Soundgarden got back together, Chris knowing I skated asked me if I knew Kevin. I told him yes (I only knew who Kevin was -as a fan of his). So then Chris asked me if I could let him know he was on the list for all of their shows and asked if I could get his address so he could send Kevin some shirts to screen “90’s graphic’s on for him to wear on tour. I reached out to Kevin on Facebook and we’ve been friends ever since. In my opinion, Kevin is skateboarding. RIP Chris.

Later was able to purchase them both as originals! Two of my prize possessions! His style resonated with me and my brother as we grew up. Absolutely loved this episode, Staab has such energy, positive energy that radiates and really makes me so happy to listen to everything this rad dude had to say. I feel for his injury, no way near as bad but I smashed up my right wrist skating last October (ulna and radius clean breaks) and I really understand his POV and energy about getting well, getting back on the board and just saying screw you to injuries (albeit letting things take their time, I still have a month or two before I can skate again), I got a life to live and I gotta be skating it. Wishing Kevin the best for his ongoing recovery!

Throughout the years, I’ve seen Tony mention him, but I’ve never heard him talk nor knew anything about him. I just had known that he was really good friends with Tony and to hear his story. What he’s gone through what he’s going through it’s all passion and I love it also love that he took creative control for his graphics, I’m not too sure how many pros are involved or care about their graphics but I truly believe the more you care about it the meaning will show. Last thing I hope we can get Stacy Peralta on to hear his side of the story because it sounds like Kevin still doesn’t know kind of bums me out.
