When Those Sirens Are Gone
From what was once a simple song performed by paramedic/firefighter Kevin Davison in his living room quickly became a giant anthem for First Responders. Now this powerful song has a video depicting “just another day in a First Responder’s life”.

One call undone it all.....To this day, i can still see her hair that was stuck to the headbed tape. Her mom's screams begging us to save her daughter still haunt me. I never imagined that our failed attempts to save an 8 year old would unlock the years of bad calls that i had ran. The nightmares from that night are forever burnt into my memory.

Awesome song!! Been a Firefighter/EMT for almost 6 years and I wish I could forget some of the things I've seen and been through. Thoughts and prayers go out to all emergency services personnel. Thank you all for what you do everyday and I pray you go home at the end of every shift.

SoftballWarrior343 honestly, I feel like people like you should be given more credit, I mean, you risk your lives to keep us as safe as possible, or try your absolute hardest to keep us breathing. You don't even have to do it, but you do anyways, and have to suffer with countless amounts of horrid scenes of what's left in the aftermath. Then there's people that get upset you couldn't do 1/100 things right, it's just not right.

Joshua McLeod thank you Joshua for the kind words. I couldn't imagine doing anything else, even with all the bad stuff that comes along with the good. It's a humbling feeling to know that there are people like you who appreciate what emergency services personnel do everyday and try not to find a negative thing to say every chance they get. Thank you and stay safe. :)

***** well alot of people in my section of the city I live in are like this. See, last year an officer on duty sadly died when trying to catch a sexual offender that made multiple threats to a family. Many officers were out there, when suddenly a shot rang out, and an officer was fatally wounded. To commemorate his service, many people tied blue ribbons around road signs, fences, as well as man other things. It was all also put on a route that families would go through, to see how the city has suffered as well. They were set up for months until they froze then melted, causing them to break.

I love my small role in the firedepartment because I know at the end of the day I've done my best to help our community

22 years, volunteer Fire/EMS. you never forget the ones you couldn't save. The only comfort is knowing that in the end, you treated each and every one with caring, compassion and respect. The blank stare in the mirror when you get home, the images that play over and over in your mind. You hold on, and hold it in until the job is done. Sometimes it's hours, sometimes days or weeks, but it always hits you. Every loss leaves a scar.

This song and video speaks to all first responders, including law enforcement officers. Many of them silently struggle alone, in the dark of night, with the unforgettable images that play over and over in their minds. PTSD is real and it is ugly. Unfortunately many departments in the States are still stuck in the dark ages and expect them to just "suck it up" and if they cannot they are tossed out like yesterday's news. We are working to raise the awareness that it is time for change and the message portrayed in this video will help.

Roger M I'm so sorry you had an incompetent counselor. Yes, anyone can have PTSD. My sons were in a "freak accident" years ago when they were 11 and 12 years old. A signal cannon,on a boat, was left loaded and shot one and barely missed the other. My husband, stopped the bleeding, the youngest was in shock, the oldest..fought to survive. Each of us..20 years later...have our own triggers. The youngest now almost 40 can't walk into the front doors of a hospital..without nearly fainting. It took me years to not relive the the events every time I heard a siren, off in the distance. My husband can't talk about it..and the..you get the picture..that's just from one event. First responders? Countless horrible scenarios... that live in their memories.... Roger..I'm glad you are doing well now.. Your counselor was misinformed! This is a beautiful song and video.. Thank you for the work you do...

Awesome song, nicely done. I am a former volunteer firefighter of 13 years in NJ. Had to step away due to serious health issues. Great song Kevin, let me share a FB post from yesterday I sent to one of our young EMTs after we had worked a crash with 3 children dead...Cory, I've been doing trauma for 25 years and it does not get any easier. You just cannot unsee what you have seen and experienced. But, you can, and should, pray for these patients in the moment. That simple thing, offering the situation up to the Lord will ultimately help you not only totally own it(and do your best work) but also let you release it. So it does not play in your head at night. .....so I hope this helps

Kevin- This song is hits home for EMS/FIRE family members. I hope this song is heard by citizens in each community we serve. To have those who do not understand what we actually go through on a daily basis are able to finally understand. It brought tears to my eyes...... Thank-you for this song from the heart. Please keep it going.
