In Cornwall, Holy Wells are revered and respected. The Seven Wells at Bisley is a very significant Holy well, also known as "Healing Wells". These wells were so called because many years ago, there was no water sanitation and it was safer to drink ale, although very weak, as this was boiled before being drunk. As the water into the Holy wells is filtered through the chalk of the local landscape, they also contain minerals which had certain medical benefits when drank.
