I really appreciate how, in any language, folk music is more or less about the exact same things. “This song is about how awesome the horse is.” “This song is about how men want to be the best at stuff.” “This is a song about the awesome place where our people come from.” “This song is about how, when you’re with your girl or on your horse, time has no meaning because it rules to be on your horse and/or with your girl.”

WOW! Odugen Taiga is one of those soul elevating songs. It takes me somewhere calm and relaxing that I can’t get often anywhere else. A dream, a faded nostalgic memory, a past life/reincarnation? Who knows, but I feel like I’m on a tranquil hilltop overlooking a valley, forest, and lake looking up at the stars with the love of my life whenever I listen to this. Having all of the things I need in one place. Such a unique feeling.

I went to see these guys in Bratislava, they were performing at the church. I was standing there on the inner balcony. You could feel the vibration... and joy. Powerful and unforgettable experience.

Four people, some simple instruments ... but felt like a large symphony orchestra. Oh my.

I found this video over a year ago at a time when my life was going through a major transition. I was going to be a father, and at the time, I had no idea what to expect.. I can remember the first time I heard Odugen Taiga. This whole set was transformative, but that song in particular has stuck with me. To me, it conveyed a sense of place in the universe.. being rooted in a tradition.. existing in harmony with nature, and I thought to myself, "This is the world I want to share with my son."

OK, I don't know how they do it, but this music sounds the way it feels to ride a horse, especially a long distance on an open plain. I say this having done this. When I was a kid, we lived in the high plains of the United States, in the part of Oklahoma that was once called the Cimmaron Strip. There isn't much out there except an endless plain of grass and the sky so huge and blue overhead that it seems like everything. When it was just me and the horse, I'd almost believe that I could ride forever, and that powerful animal loping along underneath me made me feel more connected to the earth and to all living things than I can ever possibly explain. Then I grew up and moved to the city. Nothing has been the same since.

I am part Cherokee; this awakens something in me. Different part of the world, SAME SPIRIT! This is bringing tears, goosebumps, and chills...

This music speaks to my ancestral soul. As an Apache, I only found out recently that there is linguistic evidence to show that the Athabaskan peoples of the Americas share much with the Ket people, a tuvan group. No wonder this music sounds so familiar to my soul, the sound of the ancestors to my ancestors.

Witnessed them LIVE in Hyderabad, India yesterday. Same compositions were played and no doubt the crowd went ecstatic... Goosebumps...

At about 29:00 in when their voices and instruments started mimicking/portraying their homeland and their lifestyle, knowing this was the song they said described the beginning of their culture, their people, their land and language, is when I started crying. This is so beautiful I don't even know what to do with myself.

I heard their song 'Ougen Tiaga' live over 15 years ago in a small theater in Montana, it brought tears to my eyes then and it still brings tears to my eyes today. Something very ancient flows through these men...I swear I was transported to a different time and place that night a long time ago. No other group has been able to do that to me that since then.

My dad took me to see these guys idk how many years ago and it was kickass, nice to see theyve made it onto my algorithm. I dunno why i never thought of looking them up.

Nowadays people are so busy with marketing trends, music about fashion and courting sexy babes, music about lover break ups. But we forgot the very essence of creating music, that is to reflect the very essence of our life connection to nature. We are always part of it.

I honestly felt the presence of God in that song after the interview. I can't express how beautiful it feels. Just...profound vibrational love, is the best way I can say it.

It feels like nature made into poetry and music. And the deep throat singing makes the pain and suffering into harmony, and brings forth some sort of sweet sadness that heals the soul. Living in a culture far from this doesnt seems to take away any power from the music, because there is something universal about it. Thank you very much

I saw these guys live back in the 90's. I was lucky enough to be sitting about 6 feet away. That performance basically changed my life.

It's amazing the direct and explicit link there is between folk music and the culture they come from. Mongols relied on horses for most of their daily activities, and you can see how that translates as a recurrent topic in the songs hereby. Folk music is amazing, and it is a must for anyone that wants to understand the worldviews from ancient cultures. I loved this group, and this performance was more than amazing.

I had travelled in Tuva to the Throat singing festival in Emay 15 or so years ago, and met these folks there. They are truly soulful people! It was wonderful.

When you discover Throat singing, you can't stop listening at throat singing. I have learn so much about Tuva and mongolian music since the last year.

I bought their 1998 (Mountain Tale) cd in a Barnes and Noble; then I lost it in college and forgot the album title or artist name :( never couold find it again or remember how to search for it, until today.... Thanks KEXP back in the times when you had to search for good music with good hearing and good taste, not an algorithm issue........

Its so true. Without internet i wouldnot know about this amazing group. There are cultures with unique songs dance and instruments, all over the world and the internet and /or tv shows make us aware of them. Often throat singing is just thrown into a soundtrack to make things ~mystical~ so it's nice to just hear it presented as music. Presented as just singing.

This music was so beautiful I was in tears. OMG! I could hear and see nature so clearly and the first one riding the horse, I went from detached listening, to actually being on that horse and I could feel how much they love their horses. I then found them on Spotify and listened for an hour in an other worldly state of relaxation. Thank you!
