It's not just Korea. Most, if not all countries in Asia have a preference for light skin. Honestly the country where the woman is being interviewed is from, India is actually worse than other countries in Asia by comparison.

It’s true that East Asian prefer lighter skin. But it is mostly a matter of esthetic preference rather than racism or discrimination. Korea is a mono ethnic nation. Many people don’t feel comfortable with non-Korean looking foreigners. This doesn’t simply equal to racism.

Not always. It depends on lot of other factors like in what kind of environment and family they are in and lots of social norms they saw while growing up..apart from being white. "White" isn't the problem...

It isnt about colour . The Indian society prioritises family culture and their opinions & parents are conservative in that sense (not all ) . Also indian parents have a pov that white people casually date or go out multiple times which is not considered as a very good thing in indian families .

Someone I know married a foreign guy, he cheated on her, she didn't know for 12 years. And then came back to India and married an Indian.now they have 2 children together.This happens very frequently in America, which does not happen in India so, Indians are against marriage with anyone else but Indian, or Nepali is also Hindu so that's also fine. At the end they want there Lineage to continue. And if a female Indian married a foreigner, she would be looked down upon by her relatives. Same doesn't go for when an Indian guy marries a foreign girl tho.

I agree with the above comments. Indian youngsters are often judged by their elders and ocastrized if they go for someone not of a culture or a similar one. Some of the older generation place emphasis on continuing their traditional values. I won't say they are racist. You could say they are stuck in their generational views especially considering our history with British people. For most old gen people, they regard all whites as being related to each other . I do know of a friend of mine whose parent wrote her out of his will and disowned her after she married a foreigner, an Italian. Honestly when a large inheritance is at stake, some people won't ever risk everything for momentary happiness. Still she's happily married for 5 years with a kid. All I can say is that it's her parents loss and they lost the opportunity to have someone to provide for them in their later years.

Many Koreans are naturally more pale than white people. Also, being pale is associated with not having to work in the fields.

As far as I know pale skin was an indicator for wealth, because it showed that you didn’t have to work on the field in the sun (long time ago). So the skin color thing is something that’s going on for quite a long time. Even in the western countries pale skin was considered more beautiful and was associated with wealth. The change happened not so long ago. Imo the natural skin tone is beautiful if it’s dark or pale or something in between. Everyone is pretty the way they are. Love yourselves 😊
