Oh my goodness. That young Indian girl talking about her experiences broke my heart. She was trying to stay optimistic, but you can hear the pain in her voice when she talks about the bad treatment she received. Thank you for this enlightening and provocative video.

I feel bad for every person who face any form of "unjustified" discrimination, regardless of race, religion, gender etc. But even as a Indian, I don't feel particularly bad for her. The reason being *educated* Indians have a strange obsession with working anywhere outside India. India suffers a major brain drain for this reason

It’s heartbreaking but I also wish more people understood Korea’s history and complicated psychology due to it being perpetually at war/split into two (North Korea) - constant US military presence (and bases sadly are historically associated with things like brothels etc…) Extremely traumatic Japanese occupation pre-WWII, which the Japanese govt refuses to acknowledge creating major tension between neighbors. And yes just a really traumatic national experience in general. And S.Korea can’t seem to catch a break in terms of just getting to be on its own and sort itself out. It’s wealthy, but even its fast development has taken a major emotional toll on the population. And this results in major defensiveness and weariness of outsiders.

If you are a "white foreigner", you will be well treated! If you are a "brown or yellow skinned foreigner"... a different story. It is sad to see a seemingly modern country like Korea would have discrimination. I attended an English teacher training program in Korea and my peers should be highly open minded Koreans.. You are right. I saw many korean youtubers pretending to be so honest and trying to figure out the negative sides of Korea while taking interview of many foreigners, so that foreign people appreciate them that they are honest, courageous and figuring out his own country's problems. And we can see many foreigners applauding 👏 them, wow! Hats off for you bro etc. But in fact, they just trim the video and upload only those interviews which are acceptable for their mentality. Even sometimes they delete mine and others' comments which are totally related to the fact. Some times the guy gives heart for all comments except mine one. Why? Even though my comment is most relevant to his video. They why he didn't like it? That's hypocrisy of the society my dear. The question is whether those korean youtubers really want to know the ground reality and negative sides of Korea or it's just a drama to get viewership? Answer is very clear that they only want to get viewership and subscribers especially from high populated countries like India, Pakistan etc. Because Chinese are not that much into the Kpop drama and BTS etc. So Chinese are not good target for them on KZfaq. So only Arabic and south Asian counties, South Asian left who can be used as followers tool for this purpose. I have been observing since last 4 years that some youtubers talk about Muslim so that all north African and Arabic girls become crazy for them.

I personally like Indians and India. Many Koreans have seen The 3 Idiots, Slumdog Millionaire, and RRR and have a good image of India through them. Koreans also think that Indians look cool. Historically, Korea is a victim of imperialism like India. So we are like to see the development of India. When India overtook Britain's GDP, many Koreans were surprised and delighted. India's dynamic economy could go beyond China to G2, or even beyond the United States to G1. We are cooperating in many areas. Economically, militarily, personally. Let's continue to work together. I hope to see more Indians in Korea in the future. Aria, who recently debuted as a girl group, is a good example. I'm sorry that the people in this video went through something bad. But basically we don't think based on nationality or skin color. Korea is a homogeneous society, so it is just unfamiliar and difficult to deal with foreigners. We are never trying to discriminate against them. We shouldn't believe in people, but the last thing we should believe in is also people. Love you India.

Then you haven’t been to India. I’ve lived there for more than 5 years now and I see the majority have no caste or color discrimination. And what’s more, I recently read Hindu texts that show caste didn’t exist in India but only recently the Manu smriti was written by a man who took advantage of it and then the Brits created the untouchables which was not even a thing in India. Caste itself is a foreign word not Sanskrit. And if you don’t believe me, you can watch reliable videos such as the one from Cogito and maybe read more. Education is key to understanding different aspects and cultures. People say Indians are dirty but they are vegetarian or even when they eat meat, they cook it and clean it thoroughly instead meat, raw meat blood makes me sick, that is dirty not vegetarians. I hate the smell of disgusting raw beef that Koreans eat but I don’t say anything and nor do I tell them that they have this smell. But they do but I don’t walk away from them, I sit with those Koreans and some of them were super racist to me. While in india , most of my black friends and Latino friends didn’t face racism like South Korea, I’m sure there is racism in india too but not to the extent of South Korea. In South Korea, 8 out of 10 poc foreigners face racism and harassment according to surveys, but in other countries, 2 out of 10 people probably face racism.

I lived in Korea for 4 years as a software engineer. Racism and discrimination is definitely a problem there. In general in public people will look at you differently. I got asked question like isn't it too expensive for you, or show me ID before buying an expensive gadget kind of thing, People will not sit next to you in subway, they will stare at you like you are not welcome here. In street they will avoid talking to you when asked a question. My girlfriend who was Korean, faced discrimination just because of being with me, specially by old people. Often time we need to tell people that we are married to make them stop asking discriminatory questions. Beauty standard and white skin is a thing in Korea. Like your dentist would comment that your nose is too big. It's a place where you will be constantly reminded you are different. Work culture is a nightmare specially if you don't speak Korean. But that being said many people are kind and considerate.I personally would absolutely go back to Korea anytime because of the few wonderful people I met, the culture and amazing food. Again I had more good experiences than a few selected bad ones.

The Westerners called Korea anout 150 years ago 'Kingdom of Hermit'. No contact with other races. And had to fight against Chinese horsemen and Japanese pirates and the unified Japanese forces more than a thousand years. Have the full set of its own culture. Language, alphabet, house and buildings, garments and food even though it is so close to the heart of China. Even numbering. Unique Korean words for one, ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand. The European words for numbers greater or equal to hundred have come from Latin. The current level of openness of South Korean is a miracle considering this backgound. They ha e overcome the strongest temptation of xenophobia. You can find this toxic cultural gene gone mad in North Korea.

Korea is a small country with a homogeneous population. And they are not really made for tourism. Any small, homogeneous society always feels threatened by foreign bodies. Think I'm lying? Then please explain to me why out of all the cosmetics and beauty products labeled as 'skin brightning' sells higher than any other line and why SEA women go crazy over white guys in clubs and bars. I asked a SEA girl on a date once and what I heard was 'sorry but I prefer a guy with fairer skin...' LoL The audacity of some SEA people (I emphasize 'some', meaning not all of them) here leaving comments that Koreans are obsessed with white people. I suggest those SEA ppl who leave such comments to take a good look in the mirror and reflect on their own actions. Koreans didn't come up with the 'Brighter skin is more desirable' ideology.
