Key Fob for Tesla Model 3 and Y - Worth It?

If you unlock the car with the keycard, you have about 90 seconds to get in and put car in drive before it requires card to be placed on sensor by cupholders. Keyfob doesn't need to be put on sensor unless battery in fob is dead.

I use the fob as my primary key. It hangs on my belt outside any pockets. The car seems to start fine without needing to touch the cup holder sensor. If your fob was in your pocket, maybe its transmit strength was insufficient for the car to detect? I prefer the fob to the app because the fob is more accessible. If I want to open the trunk with the app, I need to unlock the phone screen, open the app, then click open trunk.

Good points! Also, perhaps the battery is getting weak. I've only been driving the car 2 days so perhaps putting the fob in my right pocket rather than the left so it's closer to the center console would make a difference. And yes, the remote trunk release is nice when you're approaching the car with, say, a shopping cart.

A neat feature I discovered- the car will notify when the fob battery is weak. I tend to think the car might be alerting early because the fob still unlocked the car for a week? month? after the alert appeared on the car screen. If your fob battery was indeed weak, the car should've notified.
