In this video we talk about our lobstering experiences in South Florida and the upper Keys, especially Key Largo. Over the years we have learned a lot, and we wanted to share some tips and tricks for people new to the area.
Some of our tips are:
1. Follow the rules! FWC is very active during mini season and the first few days of opening season. Be sure to use a dive flag, measure all of your lobster, make sure you have all necessary licenses and are diving in legal areas. There are a lot of areas that are closed to lobstering during mini season.
2. Scout before opening day! Finding a few good spots makes things a lot easier on opening day.
3. If you scouted some spots, make sure you're the first one to that spot! Leave early to secure your area.
4. Try a lobster snare instead of a tickle stick and net. It takes some skill but it's basically all we use!
5. Try diving a bit deeper than the rest of the crowd. There's a lot of lobster deeper than the 5-10 feet that most people dive.
