Oh! So glad you've checked Zeal & Ardor! Death to the Holy is probably the most approachable and known track. The idea of the sound is mixing traditional african-american spiritual music with black metal. It's a really unique sound! Awwright!

Howdy Geebz! Thank you kindly for the Archspire. I'm glad they got you chuckling lol. There's an element of ridiculousness, but they don't get too lost in the sauce ( imo ) which keeps it fun ha. I thought about suggesting something non-metal & up beat as a counterbalance. I think you were chewing on the drums at 57:30. Spencer has a phenomenal Left-hand blast, with the Right going to town on the cymbals. \m/ still here

Oh humanity's last breath is a gold mine, i would definitely recommend checking out their... everything to be honest, but to recommend some of their greatest (imo), i'd say check out earthless, instill, labyrinthian, ocean drinker and rampant. But again, i'd honestly recommend everything. Archspire is another band where i'll just go ahead and recommend checking out all 3 of their official albums. Their first album "all shall align" is great as well, but the official 3 albums are all incredible.

glad you checked out Savatage. your reaction was priceless and very heart warming to another old guy lol. Criminally underrated due to failure to comform to the norm and always writing the music they loved. shout out to abstract illusion. amazing prog style and killer drums. guitarist reminded me a bit of Cris Oliva at one point. i now have a new band to check out. thanks to all who love music

I was pleasantly surprised with Savatage, my ears really lit up with them. I loved the older sound from them, even with the singer. I gotta say, though, that track from An Abstract Illusion was phenomenal! I'm definitely going to look into some more of their work, too. Such a great way to end this session.

Found Zeal & Ardor 'bout a year ago or less and was surprised with their unique sound. Live performances are great as well. At one of them after the Don't You Dare they had a long-ass applause. These guys are cool as heck

I saw them in 2018 opening for Obscura and Beyond Creation and they most certainly do. They opened with Calamus Will Animate which was sick. I'd almost say they stole the show to be honest. It was at a small venue in Kansas City and I remember the sound booth got knocked over from the pit.

@@IgorUlbrich If you look a bit on youtube, when they open with that song, it starts with some movie line intro where it sounds like a few gunshots, then a guy saying "you call that a gun?" and then it starts with the pump action reload sound effect and they come in.

Archspire is one of the few technical death metal bands I can listen to. Despite the insane skills they show, the songs also really feel like a flowing song. Lots of classical music influences in there. Also they absolutely NAIL it live!

Beyond Creation is up there with the classical influences as well. Some tracks straight up remind me of Bach pieces I played on piano when I was younger.

Still here! Enjoyed all the reactions. Personal favorites here are Archspire and Humanity’s Last Breathe, and the section of the Abstract Illusion song after your first pause was killer (going to have to check out more!). All of the others were interesting or intriguing. Great session. Thanks for sharing, Geebz!

Hey Geebz, and happy new year! Do you remember “Never Forget” from the Halo 3 soundtrack and just how beautiful it was? Well, there’s one more piece from a different franchise which is so powerful, and I personally believe just tops this. Please if you could find the time to listen and react to “Gandalf’s Fall”, or the last half of “Khazad dum” by Howard Shore it would mean a lot to me. It’s from Lord of the Rings. There is no other song that makes me more emotional than this! I know this isn’t among the most requested, but you’ll have to trust me. Hope you find this :)

Hi Geebz, I've got a question if you could please answer it for me. Is it normal for someone to be a patreon for months and not get their song request? Or is it like on a "to do" list .. I know you have a lot of patreons but it would be great to know if the membership is just to support you with the odd chance of a request happening or it definitely will happen in time. Thanks, from a former patreon of yours.
