Yeah I found that there are lots of turnovers committed in the lower leagues with a possession based style, but it could absolutely work given the right players and team make up.

We never really had too much trouble with a 4-3-3, especially if teams tried to play out of the back the pressing led us to winning the ball high up the pitch (especially once the ball went out wide, we generally had the numbers out there to win possession). We definitely had the most trouble with a 4-2-3-1 formation, as the center attacking mid was the problematic player. If I saw that, I would usually drop the right-sided center mid to play as a DM, and I would put a tight mark on the opposing AMC to help prevent them making runs in behind.

I think you could absolutely use a similar tactic in the lower leagues of England. If you find a formation that fits your team well and apply the general principles of the tactic, I think it would work well. During the summer months, I'm usually going after free transfers and loans. If you have any scouts, during the season start looking for players who are in the last 6 months of their contract with 3 to 3.5 star current ability (at minimum). Throughout the season your scouts will find a lot of players and you can develop a shortlist of players whose contracts are expiring in the summer. Then, when the summer comes around, you can look at signing them. I would also do the same thing for loans; and, especially on transfer deadline day, you can get a bunch of them for free. Between free transfers and free loans, you can improve your squad a lot each season, and you could get promoted into the EFL without having to sign a player for money. I will also use the player search to see if there is anyone I can sign on a free. Usually I just tick the box that says they would be interested in signing for me, then I usually use on attribute (at lower leagues I go for physical attributes, such as pace), set it to 13 or 14, and see if there are any players that catch my eye.

I don't give any specific player instructions at this level to help keep things simple (given that a lot of these players have low teamwork and mental attributes). If I have one really outstanding player who I am trying to get the most out of I might, but otherwise I don't do anything specifically with player instructions.
