The second breathing we have is to use in the second stage of labour. You use down breathing when your baby is moving down the birth canal into the world. It is relaxed and focuses (definitely not forces) downwards.

Update: I did it, such a magical birth! It was so much more amazing than my first hospital epidural birth in so many ways! Thank you Katherine from Florida!

Hello Donna. When you did the down breathing..did you just breathe your focus or did you also push? Thanks

I’m so glad. My aim is that every woman has a positive experience of birth.

Down breathing is not the same as J breathing. J breathing presupposes that you are in a recumbent or semirecumbent position which are the least efficient and the most uncomfortable positions for giving birth. If you are in an upright or forward position there is no up at the end because the vagina is pointing downwards. Obviously this is a much better way of giving birth because you are working with gravity. Therefore the visualisation of a J does not apply. I hope that helps.

I’m always confused about j breathing. Do we imagine the shape ‘j’?

Thank you so much. All other Hypnobirting breathing technique Videos stressed me with the counting and I automatically started tensing. With your Up and Down Breathing videos I am calmed and relaxed and the fear is gone. Loads of love xx

I'm delighted. It is always my aim to keep what we teach as simple as possible. You can't be doing with complicated things when you're giving birth. Also I'm convinced that counting is unhelpful as we are all different and it simply causes stress. It's much better that the mind can focus on the positive visualisations we give which actually enhance the benefits of the breathing. Thank you so much for your kind comments.

Everything we do in KG Hypnobirthing keeps the tools we give you as simple as possible. This is important, so they can become second nature. The last thig we want is that you are 'trying' to remember things when you give birth.

Katherine, Thank you so much for posting. We are just over halfway through our third pregnancy. Our first birth was natural but stressful and 24 hours. Our second came with complications and we ended up needing many interventions. It was Trumatic and I really did not want to repeat it. I have been listening to your affirmations and relaxation and it’s starting to give me hope that I can have a successful, short, and possibly even a stress free birth. Your voice is so soothing and I am just thankful

You most certainly can give birth to your baby in a way that you remember as a positive and empowering experience. You have plenty of time to inform yourself well. Have you read The Hypnobirthing Book yet? That will give you all you need to know. It is even better if you attend a course, and I'm teaching on zoom these days. If that is difficult with two small children, we also have an online course that you can follow at times that suit you. It's best if you do it with your partner. Please ask if there is anything else you would like to know. I really want this to be an amazing experience for you - and for your baby.

Wonderful new, Donna. You're amazing. KGHypnobirthing really works, doesn't it.

When do you make the switch from up breathing to down breathing during labor?
@jessicabullock98693 жыл бұрын
From what we learned in our classes, you’ll know :) Just listen to your body and baby.
@katharine.graveskghypnobir85993 жыл бұрын
All that is explained in the KGHypnobirthing course. It's when you are fully dilated and your baby starts to move downwards. I hope that helps.

When can you start practicing? Is it safe to do before the 35th week?
@Lpimlott4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I took a class in May and practiced this daily. My twins were born in August.

If you take her course, she says not to practice down breathing until week 36. EDIT: I just saw when you posted your question. I guess my reply isn't very helpful at this point. Haha

Lindsey Pindsey thanks I was practicing this but I’m only 30 weeks so I’ll wait lol

I’m sure it will be fine to practice the down breathing earlier, but we say from week 36 because we don’t want to be in the position of somebody very sadly having a miscarriage and then blaming our breathing. Margins of safety!
