The Team of Ironman 4x4 Africa heads off again on an epic trip with Will of Africa. The team is heading into Kgalagadi from the Botswana side heading to Mabuasehube.
And what is NEW on this trip is the new SWIFT Rooftop Aliminium Hardtop Tent from Ironman 4x4.
The Swift 1400 is the first of the new offerings from Ironman 4×4 and is perfectly suited for larger wagons as well as utes fitted with alloy/steel canopies or appropriately rated tradesman racks. The Swift takes on the popular style of a pop-up rooftop tent, in which rather than unfolding and expanding out, the roof of the Swift 1400 simply hinges open in one quick maneuver.
The Swift 1400 is not suited to standard fibreglass and ABS ute canopies due to its 2300 x 1400mm footprint but provides the ultimate in setup and pack-up simplicity while its strong extruded steel roof construction is the suited to mounting up to 50kg dynamic load. The Swift 1400 comes with 2 x roof rails as standard equipment!

Deep in the heart of Botswana’s side of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park the Polentswa wilderness trail is available through an area that has remained unchanged from the days of our forefathers. For some 257 km of track, on which only 4x4 vehicles may travel for two nights and three days, those who wish to experience a sense of solitude and freedom in the wilderness will find only minimal signs of human intervention. The trail sometimes passes through areas of tall grass and sometimes over dunes of soft sand. The route links various pans, some plain and some spectacular. Kalahari wildlife can be seen in varying concentrations along the trail and lion may explore camps at night.
The Mabuasehube wilderness trail runs through the centre of the Botswana part of the park from the Mabuasehube area of the park to Nossob rest camp. This is a two-day, one-night trail over 155km.

loving the videos we are going to watch the rest of the episodes this evening. One question I have is, we are also going to Mabua from Jwaneng in the next 2 weeks. And are thinking of using the cutline from the tower to the mabua gate. I see there was some thick sand initially, how deep was this sand overall? we are towing an afrispoor caravan with a land rover defender (old model) do you think it will be feasible? tyre pressures would be down to 1.3 if needed. we are driving solo. How far does the thick sand last? any advice would be good. thanks again

Hi Chris. Difficult question to answer with certainty. Sand driving is most often challenging due to changing conditions on the same stretch of road. In my experience, the right amount of momentum and correct tyre pressures are key. Early morning when sand is colder is easier. Mid day sun when sand etc are hot is more challenging. In my own experience, sand driving is mastered by a lot of experience which is a luxury most of us do not have. If you do not have enough flotation from your tyres (both tow vehicle as well as towed vehicle) things get tricky quickly. If you lose momentum down to the point where you're almost at a stand still, be careful not to dig yourself in. Rather stop, reverse and try lower tyre pressures if possible or a tad more momentum. Good Luck and be safe.

So one of the pretexts of the trip is conservation...then out comes a dozen bug zappers..
