It's Ramadan in Egypt, a festive time of the year when people are out in force at night and the streets are lit up with beautiful lanterns, glittering lights and colorful streamers. Come with me to the famous Khan el-Khalili bazaar and experience the lively atmosphere, see ancient mosques, monuments and cafes, and learn a little bit of the history of this market on this hour long walking tour of this 600 year old market.
Want to donate to the channel? You can buy me a shawarma! 😂 But really, I just found out this website "buy me a coffee" exists and created an account, because, well, why not? I really just appreciate your support by watching my videos and I'm not asking you to donate, but, if you feel like it, now there's a place you can. Donations will probably just go to me making more street food videos. Here's the link: www.buymeacoffee.com/gventures

Great atmosphere and one of the greatest aspects of Egypt is it's night time culture where you see families and kids at cafes and restaurants or just walking. This is missing in western countries where people are in doors at night on devices. Egypt is the definition of vibrancy and a culture that retains traditions. Will definitely return to Egypt this year!

@@tuttifrutti5300 In these countries that you are talking about, if no one knows you or you do not work there or if you do not have money, you will die of hunger in the street, or you will have to be a refugee in order for someone to sympathize with you. This is the difference between Egypt and the countries that you brag about. I went to many European countries and I know what I say

Currently visiting Egypt, day 7. For anyone thinking of coming here do not hesitate to, It’s perfectly safe, it’s been a wonderful experience so far. I’m not Muslim but will miss the call to prayer when I get back stateside. Thanks Gisele for the earlier videos which alleviated my concerns about coming. I almost canceled before I saw your videos, so happy I didn’t.

I know what you mean about the call to prayer! It's hauntingly beautiful, two and half years later and I still love the sound of it. So happy you made it here, what an honor to know I helped alleviate your concerns and you decided to go through with the trip. Egypt is beautiful ❤

Thank you!!! 🙏 What a beautifully written comment. I genuinely love Egypt and love sharing that passion with others. There is so much beauty here, so much life and energy. Egyptians are proud of their history and culture and are truly very warm and welcoming, embracing people from different backgrounds and treating them like family, I'm very lucky to be able to have this experience. And I have so many ideas for videos and things I want to show, my list grows longer every day 😅 And you just added to that list by mentioning the snow in Sinai (it's a good idea to show that next winter if I can), as well as Halayb and Shalateen, I've never even heard of these places, but I am going to look into them now, so thank you! Egypt definitely deserves more positive recognition, and not just for the history, because she is much more than that. She is truly a jewel. I wish her and her people to have all the success and benefits that other nations enjoy, it is well deserved. ❤

But it worked really well. we also had a comfortable journey. I also went alone to buy some local snack with the help of google, as you suggested. lol. Great video as always, Gisselle. You capture the atmosphere so well, and I love your heartfelt enthusiasm for Egypt and Cairo, and your deep respect for the people. This video was certainly a feast for the senses, and you carried us through it so calmly and intelligently, pointing out the important features of Khan El-Khalili and their historical significance. Egyptians certainly know how to enjoy themselves, don't they?!! It's five years since I was last in Egypt, and sharing your experiences here has made me want to go back again as soon as possible. I really hope I can make it this year. Thank you so much for all your hard work in producing your videos for our entertainment and education. I love your videos. I'm going this year for my birthday. I've always wanted to go. It's surprising how little you can find on the internet to give you a feel for a place. Pictures don't do some places justice. You seem so calm in explaining everything and you're just a joy to watch and learn from.

Thank you so much Heather! Yes I agree, although pictures are beautiful and can showcase stunning sights or friendly locals (I love photography), it does little in the way of expressing or showing the vibes and feeling of the street and general life in Egypt. So excited for you to visit this amazing, wild and beautiful country! There are so many different places to see in Egypt, each with different atmospheres. Cairo is a bustling metropolis of course, dusty and chaotic but absolutely humming with life. On the coasts the atmosphere is always a bit more relaxed. Further south along the Nile the villages and feeling of Upper Egypt is quite different as well, with different influences of culture and accents. The oasis and Bedouins, there is just so much to see and so many aspects to this incredible country. I hope you have an amazing trip! Just be prepared for the chaos in Cairo so you aren't caught off guard 😅

Ramadan in Cairo is very beautiful. The atmosphere is wonderful, especially in the old neighborhoods and historical places.. But I will tell you something strange. People like me who live in Egyptian medium-sized cities in terms of population compared to the very large city of Cairo in terms of population, in which more than 20 million residents live in great Cairo. When we visit Cairo, we feel lost! The lack of identity is like who I'm among these millions of people😅

You have been in Egypt for a while and are interested in ancient places. i know that. Egypt has a great history and every part you see today was built over hundreds of years. Also visit new places. Go to Fifth Settlement and Madinaty and also go to Sheikh Zayed. There are very beautiful modern cities that you must see. Also go to the new capital. All of these big cities that I mentioned inside Cairo will not make things difficult for you...but unfortunately, what they offer is in the footsteps of thousands of others and nothing new. Go to new places and cities and let people see the new and not just the old.
@Gventures
@Gventures 3 ай бұрын
The new places you speak of are not in Cairo, but are satellite cities, which are different. I am not interested in going to these places, you are right, I like history. The satellite cities are boring and there is nothing to film there, nothing but new buildings. What is there to do or see there? Do you suggest I walk around and just film buildings? I haven't gone to those places to film for a reason. If you tell me something interesting to do there, perhaps I would be inclined to go there and film. But so far, nobody has offered any insight for interesting things to do in any of those places.

@@s_mavi What videos? Walking tours? My channel is not solely a walking tour channel, in fact, most of the time it is not. Even in this video, although I give a "walking tour," I was talking with people, giving information, interacting with people. I'm a vlog channel, not a walking tour channel. But I have a good friend who was a KZfaq channel that does walking tours, maybe I will recommend him to do this. But, personally, will have nothing to say or do out in those satellite cities. They are just far away, which means I will have to take a day off work to go out there and film, I will have to drive all the way out to these cities, and then....walk aimlessly around with nothing to film except buildings. It just doesn't sound interesting or exciting.

Hi Gisselle, I just watch your video clip of Khan El Khalili bazaar here. That was wonderful and helpful to see, thank you. We will be in Cairo next week and stay near to downtown for couple days. We plan to go to Egyptian Museum and visit the Khalili market and mosques around there but not quiet sure whether to go to Museum first or visit the market and mosques due to the busyness and the hot weather. I would love to hear your thoughts about that. Thanks again
@Gventures
@Gventures 3 ай бұрын
Hi Kim! Well, not sure what kind of weather you are coming from, but it's not super hot yet in Egypt, it's actually quite nice weather, in my opinion. Regardless of the weather, definitely see the museum 1st. The museum has a closing time, as do some of the mosques, but some of the mosques do not. Especially for the market, I recommend going later in the evening or even late at night. During the day it's pretty quiet. If you want quiet, then I guess going during the day is okay. But if you want to see it alive and full of people, going at 8 or 9pm and staying for a few hours, it is much more active.
@kimyng8449

wow, you are quick! I haven't finished watching another of your video and already got your response. Thanks again and take care

@@kimyng8449 Lol, yeah I try to stay active in the comments, and I like interacting with people anyway and show my appreciation for their support. I personally don't think Cairo is dangerous at night, in fact, it's quite lively and a lot of fun! Of course, I mean in busy and active areas, like downtown Cairo or Khan el Khalili market. I wouldn't recommend going to a poor, local neighborhood or a deserted area at night, just like I wouldn't recommend doing that anywhere else in the world. But walking around at night in the market or in downtown Cairo is fine, just as walking around Times Square at night or busy areas in Paris or Rome is fine. In fact, I think you have to worry less about theft in Egypt than you would in many of the other big cities I just mentioned. But of course, just do what you feel comfortable with, I am just giving my own impressions of what is safe. I go out late all the time and am totally fine, so you don't have to worry. Thanks again for watching! 😊

This may be an odd question but are there many women in the workplace in Egypt? Every time you pass a shop it seems like it is only men working there. Is retail considered men's work and women work elsewhere?

Do you plan to do any videos on the comparison?
@Gventures
@Gventures 3 ай бұрын
Oh wow, well I'm honored to have been able to show you my experience here and my love for Egypt, and I hope you enjoy it as much as me while you're here! The internet is full of nay-sayers and fear mongering, in reality it's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. In touristic areas you'll find many annoying vendors, yes, but that's it, and you can just ignore them. Or you can put your hand over your heart and say "La, shukran" while continuously walking and only brief eye contact (if any at all). I have found this approach tends to work the best. It's not always going to work of course, but they tend to respect that refusal a bit more. And sure the younger boys (and some men) tend to stare or ask for photos, but it's not dangerous, and most every day Egyptians are very kind, welcoming and friendly. About New Cairo! I have no immediate plans to go out there and film. Mainly because it is far away from me, so I would have to take a day off of work to go out there and record, and I have nothing to film or do out there. As far as I know, it's just a rich area where people with money live, and some fancy buildings, compounds/gated communities, malls, and expensive restaurants. So, because none of that appeals to me and it sounds boring not only to film but also to watch, I haven't done it yet 😅 But eventually, at some point in the future, I plan to go to these satellite cities outside of Cairo and walk around and film and hopefully something interesting happens in the video 😆

@@CuriousG-is3dl Okay. Well I suppose that info does matter. Since you're very young I doubt you have a lot of experience traveling, and maybe not much solo travel. Have you ever been to a developing country? Are you a man or a woman? Because although I do not think Egypt is physically dangerous, a lot of women do complain about verbal harassment here and I know it can make a lot of women uncomfortable. And in general, Egypt is usually pretty overwhelming for a lot of tourists, even well traveled ones. You can do it alone, I just want to make sure you know what you are walking into. Egypt (and especially Cairo) is a very chaotic city. 6th largest in the world and still developing. Traffic is crazy, there are virtually no laws (that anyone follows), few pedestrian crosswalks, and lots of honking and noise and general street activity. So just be aware of that please. I don't know anything about you, what you're comfortable with, or your past life experience. But you need to take all of these things into consideration before coming here alone.

@@CuriousG-is3dl Okay well it's good that you're a guy, it will be easier than if you were a girl. It's very safe here, but always be cautious with your belongings just like you would anywhere in the world. But you do need to watch out for scams, because there are many people that will take advantage of you by charging you too much for something or coercing you into taking a tour or entering their shop and stuff like that. But I wouldn't say it's dangerous. I am sure you have been watching videos about Egypt and you have seen mine, so you are expecting chaos. Like I said, it is overwhelming to many people that come here, and this is going to be your first developing country, so it is going to be a lot. Most people don't choose Egypt as their first developing country 😅But you can totally do it, and I've met a woman from the US that came to Egypt and it was her first time out of the US, she loved Egypt. But she did have a guide helping her. I'm not saying you need one, I just really don't want you to be shocked beyond belief when you arrive. So imagine like you are going to India, and then Cairo will not surprise you that much 😆
