Hi I have a question. If it is a cycle, and all the carbon being emitted back into the atmosphere through natural and artificial processes, like burning fossil fuels, is essentially the same carbon that was extracted out of the atmosphere in the first place by the autotrophs, isnt it just the same carbon being recycled back into the atmosphere ? So how come carbon levels in the atmosphere are increasing gradually? Thanks

Because there is so much carbon being pumped into the atmosphere that the Earth systems can't keep up. Imagine you have a funnel and you are pouring water into it at a slow and steady rate, the water will flow out the bottom without any issues, but if you suddenly increase the amount of water you are putting in, then it starts to overflow as only so much water can travel through the funnel at a time.
