Join Khanyisa and the elephants in the bush as we head out walking with the herd, Adine, her son Xander, and Tigere! 💚💛 It’s a hot day and the elephants spend time in the shade and foraging. Khanyisa wraps her trunk around her friend Timisa as she tries to play, and Tokwe gives a beautiful hello to Xander with her rather massive trunk! Spend some time with bull, Somopane and head out on the road with all the elephants- ending with Sebakwe taking Jabulani’s tail in his mouth in an attempt to bite it!

Tokwe is a wonderful Matriarch She has accepted orphans like Kumbura even if she had two daughters of her own, then Timisa She is always watching out in the bush if all ellies are ok and the way she behaves with Gentleman Fishan is so tactful she stays at the back of the Herd to walk at a path which is convenient for him I like particularely her eyes they are sparkling with intelligence and wisdom (like Somopane and Fishan) The way she greets Xander is very moving and the way she took little miss Sunshine under her trunk since she is in the homestead is also fantastic She is a wonderful Ellie ! 💖

As I watch the herd walking to the next feeding area the thought came to me…how familiar I am with these elephants. Such a privilege to know them so well! A western Canadian who has never set foot on African soil walking with the elephants everyday. Thank you HERD for this!❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦

Doting beautiful Bubi with her gorgeous eyelashes coming to check in is always special just another perfect afternoon with the herd thank you for continuing to bring peace love and smiles with each and every video I am always moved by the tenderness and majesty they give.❤️🐘🤗

You can really get a new appreciation for the Bulls in this herd because they are so laidback! I'm so used to seeing big bulls wandering around alone, fighting, or in musth and chasing females. It's so cool to see the bulls in the herd just chill out and forage and socialize with the carers. Try petting a wild Bull elephant. I guarantee it won't be very "chill". The birth control seems to work wonders for this herd. Very rare to have multiple dominant bulls living in such close proximity to females. It pretty much doesn't happen. Even the Cambodian elephant Kavaan has a reinforced concrete fence dividing him from the females. They can touch trunks through the fence but the Male cannot bother the females.

Hopefully someone from the Herd will chime in, but it seems to mostly be the personality (and, of course, a certain age). The female from the older elephants who has both leadership and strong calmness, knowledge about all the skills that are needed to be successful with navigating the terrain, and self assuredness. Probably not all older females even want to be the matriarch. I'm going to have to Google this now though.

Watch the videos that are dedicated to Tokwe...her birthday videos and Mother's Day videos featuring her. Through the video captions and Adine narrations, both explain why Tokwe became matriarch...versus Septombe, who is actually the oldest adult female. Basically, when the 6 adult elephants were relocated from Zimbabwe to HERD in South Africa (to avoid culling in the farmer-animal conflict and to become an adoptive family to young orphan Jabulani), Septombe did not rise to the occasion to comfort and ensure the other elephants were settling in well...in the new environment. Instead, Tokwe rose to the occasion and started acting like a Matriarch to everyone...and as adoptive mother to Jabulani. With her accepting the new orphan, the others followed suit. (Remember Tokwe was not a mother at that time. So Jabu is her 1st "child" via adoption into this herd.) She has also been adoptive mother to all the other orphans except Khanyisa. She has raised 5 "kids"...2 of her own (Pisa & Limpopo) plus adopted Jabu, Kumbura, & Timisa. Septombe only has her 1 child...her own Klaserie. Anyway, Septombe seemed content to let Tokwe be in charge and lead everyone. No challenge to be lead. Adine stresses in Septombe videos (birthday and individual Mother's Day videos) that Septombe is a great helper to Tokwe and Lundi on watching the youngsters because of her disposition.
@vecarter569

@@melodiefrances3898 Also, watch on this channel the 2 videos which are entitled something about "female elephants inspect Adine's wounds"...or sonething about them being curious over her injuries. One of them is very interesting in which nearly all the female elephants take turns inspecting Adine's motorcycle wounds...which are mostly hidden under her jeans. All do...except Bubi...who does lift her trunk from afar...and seems concerned but very anxious as she urinated in stress. Tokwe comes over to her, caresses Bubi with her trunk, & she calms Bubi. In the video captions and drop-down in-depth video detail, states that they believe Bubi experienced trauma in Zimbabwe (possibly witnessing humans harming her mother and herself)...so she is very wary of humans. Notice how Adine always waits for Bubi to initate touch with her...rather than rubbing Bubi freely as she does many of the other elephants. All the carers sense Bubi's moods when they deal with her...because they sense she has times of remembering past trauma. Tokwe and Sebakwe always settles Bubi when she is stressed. So that is another way that Tokwe demonstrates her calmness and intelligence in assessing the other elephant's needs.

Why are the "carers" so harsh with their vocalizations to the Herd when moving locations, it really sounds angry? I've been following this herd, and know most all of individuals, and their painful pasts, Bubi is a good example, and I often feel she shows signs of PTSD at times. Considering the amount of suffering most have endured, aggressive sounds coming from the carers always makes me feel not only angry at them but sad for these precious animals, that express such incredible care and love towards one another. Adine can often also be heard calling them, but it is always gentle, with kindness in her voice. I imagine you will say it's important to have control over such large and powerful animals, but I feel the same result could be made without the harsh directives. You never heard Adine speak to them this wsy, and the Herd shows great respect and love to her, with an occasional mud sling from Mambo, something he learned from his mother Lunde, one of Khanysia main alo-mothers. This Herd has brought me such peace, during difficult times in our world, and I am very grateful, the only problem I have is the one I've mentioned, and I don't understand why they have to lord over them the way they do?

It seems that Tokwe and the other adult elephants look out for “their” humans in their own way, as members of her extended herd family. It seems obvious that they are patient and kind with the carers because they know you’re all there to help, and- not least of all because you keep bringing delightful babies home for them!

Love all the elephants. Did not see Fishan today. Was he there? So glad Khanyisa is adapting so we'll and the herd looks after so we'll.💕💕

I absolutely LOVE the greeting that Tokwe gives Xander. I'd be so honored to have a huge ellie greet me that way! I'm still surprised that ellies eat twigs and wood. These guys are an education.

It seemed that pur little Princess Khanyisa was doing her own thing with the other Elles and really not paying attention to Adine this time around. 🐘💕

Elephants don't like changes in routine. So its understandable that they would hover around little K when new routines are being added. But notice just like you said it seems this time they didn't bother as much and realize the new routine is fine. Such laidback elephants I swear.

@@CharlieBarkinTheDog Agreed. I think that not bothering as much with Khanyisa is just another part of "cutting the apron strings" in her transition of being an integral part of the herd. Of course, they want to film some close ups of little K so we, the viewers, can see that she is, in fact, doing well, is finding her role in the herd, and adapting to the new routine.

@@cherylpeevy5010 they gotta grow up some day. She's so big sometimes I confuse her with timisa or pisa if the lighting isnt great.

Can we please try to get 100,00 subscribers? This is a true rescue n rehab center that deserves our recognition for all the hard work. I look around n see lots of fun channels who reached that goal. While this is a channel showing true humanitarianism n offering us a look into nature n sharing the joy of herd life. HERD deserves our attention. I'm just a subscriber, so TY :-)

Very beautiful Timisa , Tokwe, Setombe, Pisa, Limpopo, Lundi, Kumbura, Klaserie and Bubi look at their expressive black eyes with lashes. I think all of them are gorgeous. The Bulls are handsome too, ( Sebakwe, Jabulani, Fishan, Senompone, Mambo and Zindoga.)

Tokwe would make a very good police elephant. I can imagine her keeping a eye on people outside a pub & spotting someone who looks a bit like they might be about to get up to something dodgy & walking up behind them & just standing there & laying her trunk across their shoulder & them just looking around & deciding it is time to go home.
