Hey Matt. This is very much an E-GMP platform issue that I’ve been covering for over a year now. Much of it had to do with the telematics pinging the cars too much (sometimes thousands of times per day) which wakes up the modem every time. It also has to do with the state of charge the car is left at. Try not to leave the car below 20-30 SOC. The platform was also originally developed using AGM batteries for the 12V system but to save money, they started using lead acid for production which as we know, doesn’t like to be discharged to a low level

Great info thank you!!

One would think that Kia would have figured this out with previous models on the EGMP Platform. This is old news.(2022). Shame on you Kia. Why is Kia carrying over the same crap to new models. Learn from your mistakes. Thats why Tesla is 10 years ahead in technology! You should not have to turn things off to stop this drain. If the car cant work with all the features the engineers designed into the car , then why have them and charge the customer? So much for R/D and testing to see if it works well. So much for trying to become a market leader in EV Technology. Come on BYD, when are you coming to the USA?

Is there a way to upgrade your 12v from lead acid to something else like lithium. Same as what some did in earlier Teslas?
@gridjac2 ай бұрын
@@rhuynhYou can replace your lead acid battery with an AGM battery, which is what the e-GMP cars were originally designed to have. Hyundai/Kia just decided to save money in production and use cheap lead acid batteries. I wouldn’t recommend using a lithium battery as the platform wasn’t developed for it. The ioniq guy has a recent video on changing his battery and his ioniq 5 and he goes over why lithium isn’t a good idea for the e-GMP cars.

I'm glad someone acknowledged the issue. I didn't make out of the dealership. After test drive, EV 9 died while they were washing it. 2 weeks still at dealer, 1st they seem to think it something related to key fob, 2nd andriod auto, 3rd rear camera sensor. 2 weeks till this day, car is still at dealer. Disappointing.

I had this issue on my EV9, Jump started it, then run Utility mode for a couple of hours. 12V battery is now fully charged and car is starting on its own. I will now run utility mode once a week to keep 12V battery in good shape.

We made it almost a month before the 12v died today. Only one of the 3 we had set up was Phone As Key. Got rid of that today. Either way, recommend everyone pick up a 12v jumper kit. Just in case.

I have a 2020 kia Soul EV and the 12volt battery died at two years. I replaced it with an aftermarket battery cheaper than the dealer prorated price. I see a couple of reasons, first and foremost is that Hyundai-Kia has no clue with software. second the charging voltage is often 15+ volts so the battery is cooking every time it charges. third, everything is an Easter egg it is videos like this that help us, not the dealer or the manual. Thank you.

I have all these on my ev9 gt and use them except the locked charger, my 12v light is on a lot but I'm happy to see it on. Compared to my EV6 GT I rarely see it on but I don't have issues with that battery. I'll be upgrading to an Ohmmu LiFePO4 for the ev9 anyways to avoid all these issues others are having.

Phone as key and finger print for driver profit is actually very convenience. it's sad that you have to disable those future to prevent a issue that should never happen at the first place.

Hey Matt, thanks for the effort but none of these affect the 12 V battery it’s something else on specific vehicles and Kia is aware on those concerns

Thanks, I will be referencing this video when I get my EV9, hopefully a software update will fix these issues. Out of curiosity is the 12V battery located in the trunk?

12V located in the frunk

I have a 23 Kona EV. I see a yellow light on the hood light up on a regular basis which means the main battery is charging the 12V. In almost a year never had an 12V issue - so weird that EGMP is having issues.

Software update???? LMAO. Don’t hold your breath. Ioniq 5 was supposed to be THEE first Hyundai/KIA with OTAs. Two years later we’re still doing updates via USB keys.

I own an Ioniq 6 essentially its the same car. I had a problem with my 12V dying as well (after owning it for 3 months). I like your video but I think the problem is Hyundai is selling these cars with bad batteries. I ended up replacing mine myself because Hyundai told me there was nothing wrong with it after 2 visits. I bought an AGM for $300. I seen one post where Tesla used to sell Flooded batteries (which what our cars comes with) but they had the same issues and they since switched to an AGM. It's been 3 months with the new battery and I haven't had any problems
@olegnaytpr2846 ай бұрын
I was thinking of replacing the battery with an AGM when I get my EV9 (in Europe). People have been warning me not to do it. They claim an AGM battery charges differently from the standard battery it comes with and will cause problems. Seems swapping out the battery for an AGM version is they way to go though?
@nickimartin58833 күн бұрын
Too bad. You shouldn’t have to turn anything off in order to save battery life. It should work the way it’s meant to be used - period. Hopefully they fix this.

@haroldmichael34924 ай бұрын
Just wait! I have an Ohmu battery in my 2022 Kia EV6. It helps but it is not the answer. I have been fighting the Kia Dealership for a year to try and fix this 12v phantom drain issue to no avail. The dealership is out of ideas with software updates, keyfobs, telematics, etc. they say my iccu is not an issue etc. They are out of ideas and so is Kia Corporate. Im dumping the car this year. Cant take it anymore, its unreliable . Im going back to Tesla, say what you will, but I have had better reliability better trained techs, and easier charging.
