Thanks for sharing this. I had to replace the latch and the release, I watched your video before doing everything and you really saved me a world of pain! If anyone else needs to do this, get someone with small hands to squeeze all of the yellow fasteners, while you carefully pry the outside panel. Do them one by one and you will be able to release from the bottom. I almost broke the rivets (that are held by 2 nuts on the interior). I used towels to keep the panel in place as I slowly worked to pry it open. I used a dremel to cut tiny slots (to the right and left sides of the license plate lights) to access the bolts. Then I slowly finished prying the panel off. You will have to remove the chrome strip by squeezing the yellow fasteners. With the panel off, I finished making the access slots I made look nice (lol) then I sanded the edges down. I am going to finish up tonight so I still don’t know what I am going to do about the slots (if anything). By no means was it it easy, but with patience you will be able to do this with no major damage.

I've replaced the left and right steering wheel switches and the lift gate struts on our Sedona and I've even replaced the rear lift gate mounted backup camera on my Ford Edge all of which was a cakewalk compared to what you just went through. Also very much appreciate the links you provided. Streamlight or Astro Tools?

This trim panel is pain in the ass, I also removed two of them from identical kia carnival tailgate. No way you could carefully take off upper part where chrome at, dumb design. Good thing I had one tailgate broken completely for replacement so could i just tear it apart😂

Sorry, you broke MORE pieces that almost does not make it worth replacing. Next time I'll watch a video that has more info and reduces amount of broken pieeces.
