I remember being a teenager, a new, so-so drummer jammin' on Motley, Dokken, AC/DC, Cinderella, Ozzy, etc., then I got the exploratory idea to only play my hi-hat, snare and bass drum. Zero chops + minimalist drum set = heavy metal Morse Code.

Awesome playing my man! Back in the day I used to stress so much about drum gear/cymbal brands/setup. Nowadays I constantly remind myself what you really need for a good sound and that's just good hands and ears. Always nice to remind ourselves of that!

I know exactly what you mean…😌😉…Of course, when I have a studio session... I take a lot more with me... But my standard live setup is really KICK-Snare -Hi-Hat and just a standtom plus cymbals… and it works… nobody ask for more and that is a good sign ….

Amazing drumming. I love how you’re making B8s sound spectacular. In the guitar world it’s often said that the tone is in the fingers. Perhaps it’s not so different for drumming after all.

The B8s are not bad at all for entry level. I feel like Sabian is the only cymbal company who's entry level cymbals don't completely suck

@@jareddoran6605 for hi hats i think sabian B8 bronze hi hats are good but in my opinion Meinl has the best entry level rides. Not just entry, but all levels lol. I love meinl rides. I don't have one but I love to hear them.

It really is the room that sounds so incredibly good…This is the music classroom (actually almost a small sports hall) of my music school…where i teach…The room would be built specifically for music rehearsals/bands and you can hear that … it’s just a iphone …no effects….I was blown away by the sound too...especially the B8s..🤷🏽‍♂️🙈😉

Take it easy! Still got my first hi hats from the early 90’s, Sabian B8. I’ll replace them when I break them, but I’ve been on the same set for thirty years. They’re not fancy, but I love the way they sound! Also- his room is half responsible, and technique flawless

DJ from Khruangbin is playing to the music, and so in the pocket at all times, and has such a minimal set up. AND, plays one handed to trigger keyboard parts in their crazy fun funk and hip hop medleys. I don't think stylistically they are the same kind of drummer, which is great, because it PROVES you don't need much at all to get a wicked groove. I love this video.

@@mauricelondondrums5266 Yes sir! Know from the comments, a 25-piece kit will still only sound as good as person behind the kit. More pieces doesn't guarantee a fuller, fatter sound. I've played with drummers with so many toys that they either lose the groove because of having to hit everything, or hide behind it for the show. You've demonstrated so well that less is more, that this clinic should be the go-to for drummers!

@@kdub607 But there is also another way……….Drummers with a lot of toys come to the Sound Check… It takes an hour and a half to set it up………plus 30 min soundcheck only drums………just to use the toys for one or two songs during the concert……And the sound engineer is pissed off after the gig……😁😂🤣😉

@@mauricelondondrums5266 ha ha ha ha! Sounds like someone has seen that happen before! That is so true. Biggest kit I've seen (but this was at a pro level so not knocking them at all) was doing a show with Tony Toni Tone - that was a monster kit and the first time seeing a set with an overhead cymbal. But when he kicked that kit during sound check, I had to get a sling for my mouth it was open that much! Worst part was we had to play behind them (them boys is funkay and know how to groove), but we did our job, was a nice show. Keep doing what you're doing brother...

@@kdub607 ha ha ha …… it happened to me very often after a gig...... which i only played plus a stand tom and cymbals...... the soundman came to me...... and told me about his nightmare stories with drummers with lots of toys…😁😂…… but it is like you said before: a kit will still only sound good as the person behind the kit…👌🏽🤟🏿it doesn't matter if you have a large or small set up…what a great story with Tony Toni Tone…🙌🏽🙌🏽🤩………keep it up and stay funky brother!!!!!!!!!!!!

I kind of agree - I don’t kick my bass drum any more than I punch my snare or slap my cymbals… I think it comes from studio and PA slang where they don’t want to confuse the slider for the bass guitar with the bass drum. Should have called the bass guitar a ‘pluck stick’, then ;)

it's not just me......for some reason exactly these pair of hi-hat cymbals sounds pretty good……considering they are B8s…also feel-wise these pair are pretty good…they look pretty old…maybe the old B8S series sounded better...🤷🏽‍♂️😅😀

I've mentioned it a few times already…it really is the room that sounds so incredibly good. This is the music classroom (actually almost a small sports hall) of my music school.….where i teach.The room would be built specifically for music rehearsals/ bands and you can hear that ….. it's just a iphone …no effects...I was blown away by the sound too…especially the B8S.. 😜
