Imagine looking at the movie poster, thinking that it would be a political movie between England and the US, and then watching two men have s*x 🤭

I’m so happy that LGBTQ+ dramas like Pose and wholesome romances like RW&RB and Heartstopper have been able to receive widespread acclaim. I hope that their huge success leads to studios creating more LGTBQ+ positive content that can indirectly fight back against the anti-LGBTQ+ politics that have been plaguing society lately.

From what I saw, the criticism wasn’t because it was campy, but the book lovers who wanted to see more of the nuance. For a 2 hour film, this did the book justice, but there were two main differences in the book that I wish they did not take out of the film. But loved the movie nonetheless.

this movie is corny and unrealistic in some aspects but damn is it cute and endearing. I feel like we need more queer movies and series that are not about heartbreak, struggles and even death. this one was such an easy watch for me and I can see it being a lot of people’s escapism type movie, like you put this on when you wanna forget about all the shit going on in the world. a silly little gay romcom 😂 also I really enjoyed Nick and Taylor’s chemistry with each other. I cannot imagine anyone else playing these roles now.

This movie should've been a mini series cause they rushed a lot of stuff that made this story more compelling and human. For example the emails go on for months, Alex has a whole crisis about his job prospects, Henry's familial issues, and the back and forth between them and their responsibilities. The boys in the book are much more self aware and complex compared to the movie. Still a good movie but if you read the book the movie seems so empty

SPOILERS for Book: I think there were two big differences I hated in this movie. I wish they showed more of starting his organizations and paving his path while being inspired by Alex and what he did. And how the emails were leaked. I hated that the movie made it so petty while in the book, there was more of an evil motive and I loved how it was Alex’s mentor who acted as a double agent revealing who it really was.

As someone who has read the book multiple times the movie is incredibly close to source material but at the same time the book has so much more depth in terms of Alex’s sexuality and their whole relationship that a mini series would’ve done them MORE justice. something that became clear to me while watching this movie is that while I do enjoy sex scenes for the most part, sometimes it just feels so intimate that it feels really strange to be watching. like, the first time they "make love", to quote henry, I loved the whole scene so much but kept looking away because it felt like I was trespassing on this very emotional and intimate moment between them lmao. maybe it was just really good filmmaking for that scene I don't know

I don't know where did they find these two lead actors, but they did a fantastic job! The chemistry, intimacy is perfect! On that scene , they really were making love! It wasn't just a s*e*x. It was the first time that I saw this gay s*e*x scene so beautiful. Most of them are very quick and rushy. And from behind! It really showed that it was the first time for Alex ,and the first time for Henry with the one he is in love with. I have red the book last year. I mean... great adaptation from the book. And, I think that the museum was a sign that he could feel that he could easily and without fear walk among people and be himself. Dance with someone you like without anyone watching or judging you. And also, don't forget that Henry always wanted to be a writer. So I was not surprised by the emails he sent to Alex! He really knows what to write and how to write!

When he was born, being gay was literally a crime in the UK and would remain so another ten years . Fry came out quite a few years into his career, he has played Oscar Wilde in a highly recommendable1997 biopic, and yes, old school British upper class types really do pronounce "homosexual" like that.

There actually is a member of the extended royal family who came out as gay a few years ago. The name escapes me atm, but it was a cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II., who came out after being married to a woman for ages. She was cool with it, though, and they've remained on good terms. So good, in fact, that she "gave him away" at the altar when he married his husband. But a member of the immediate royal family, one in direct line for the throne? The press would make their life hell on earth! Look how they went at Harry and Meghan, and those two aren't even a gay couple, "only" interracial. And your hunch that Harry was an inspiration for Henry is 100% correct - Harry was baptized Henry, Harry is sort of a nickname that got stuck.

A few things that felt unrealistic: 1. That Alex would be a "classless American" when he would have gone to a prep school and some ivy league university and rub elbows with old money 2. Alex would have experienced racism far more than just "I look different from other people." 3. Henry would have undergone military training AND service (if we model them off of princess Diana's sons) and have a right schedule of appointments for charities, conventions, games, ribbon-cutting, etc--he's not just sitting around looking pretty. It's like they genderswapped the "poor little rich girl" and thought that was enough. Henry, if he went to Eaton as a kid, would probably have his first physical experience there, as those kind of encounters happen in homosocial institutions.

All of your points are addressed in the book. (Alex, as is stated several times in the movie, is working class, living in the suburbs, and went to public school.) For #3 specifically, the characters are younger in the book and Henry is on his gap year working for charities and philanthropic endevors with Pez ("Percy" in the movie) and is struggling with the expectation of upcoming military service. Alex replies in his emails to Henry, “I’m there for whatever you decide you want to do, just, like, let me know if I need to start practicing gazing wistfully out the window, waiting for my love to return from the war.” I lovelovelove the movie for what it is, but it represents a very shallow version of the book characters.

The love-making is SO sensual!! From 16:42 where Henry urges him in to 16:52 when Alex is all in and Henry exhales! The intimacy coordinator def knows about bottoming.

Might not have been clear in the movie, but the entire land around there (including the lake) is theirs, and the secret service is around, defending it. So they are quite hard to get close to or spy on.

I love that what made Sofia wanna watch this movie was a tweet of a Brazilian. As a Brazilian, I gotta say, tweets like that are the bare minimum in Brazil. Everybody should learn Portuguese only to enjoy the chaos of Brazilian online interactions.

It's a cute movie, but personally I think the love story was kinda rushed and there's definitely room for more complex stories and moments in this movie, which I think it deserved. I also think the president's son should have had more awareness on being a public figure, considering.

Yeah there’s only so much to cram into 2 hours. I agree with others that it could’ve worked better as a series!

I’m not sure if you’ve read the book but their love story is a lot more fleshed out / complex in the book! The president’s son is also written very one-dimensionally in the movie (bc of time constraints i’m assuming), so if you do have the time I would really recommend reading the book!!

I’m like so excited that there are light toxic lgbtq stories! Like yeah it’s cheesy but that’s what the gay adults like me needed when they were teenagers. You need the representation! This is GOOOOOD representation

Hello Sophia, I enjoyed this video and the rest of them, I considered myself to doing a movie commentary videos as well. Do you have any advice on how to do them without getting a copyright claim? Hope you have a wonderful night/day. - Kit
