Ok, but anything can happen anywhere, at anytime. Yes, we have the benefits of legal representation, some sense of security, etc., but bad things can happen anywhere. The repercussions of thoughtless or incorrect decisions can happen to anyone, and plenty of people in this “modern” world we live in are “book-smart”, well-studied, but they aren’t “street-smart” or streetwise, let alone quick on their feet. They wouldn’t know what to do in a situation like this, let alone knowing how to order a damn Green Tea Latte at Starbucks. And yes, I’ve seen it. I worked there for 12 years, in SoCal, and these intelligent college students would come-in to work on assignments, not paying any attention to anything around them, including while standing in-line… and when I asked them, “what size” (for their drink), they looked at me and asked, “does that matter?” 😶 😐 Ummm… no, I’ll make you a venti, how about that? 🧐

I'm an American that has been living in Costa Rica for about 7 years. It's arguably the safest country in all of Central America and I don't suggest you come down to live here. It's not paradise, it's just the least crappy place to live in central and south America. As for Nicaragua, unless you know people that live there or stay in highly touristy areas don't go and I'm saying when Nicaragua was moderately stable if you go now good luck.

I used to think about those who were survived from near death, dangerous, critical situation are those who were mentally, phisically, spiritually strong person. I said "they are not lucky, they are blessed". So, they left very very interesting stories once they live. Ok let me talk about in my own language 'Mizo Tawng' Mizoram, North East India. Pretty good low budget technique for getting the shot of the truck burning w/o setting it on fire.

I can’t help but wonder... Did Manley not play Contra for NES back in the day? Didn’t he know what Nicaragua was all about? I hope he at least remembered the secret code... up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start. Good luck Manley.

My family is from Nicaragua. My abuelo told me about how when he was younger he was working and came across some rebels, they invited him to eat but he knew he couldn't refuse, it would be considered disrespectful, they made a fire and told told him stories about what they do. He said they didn't harm him because he's from there but it was the scariest experience of his life and the drunkest he's ever been lol Nicaragua is beautiful and safe. Locals are friendly and the food is amazing! It's cheap to live there too.
