In 2005, 2 operators from the British SAS were on a mission in Iraq to support the MI6 intelligence service. The objective of the mission was to shadow corrupt police officers who had links to terrorist organizations. After they were stopped by this very group and the policemen tried to drag them out of their vehicle, the special forces opened fire and killed 2 of the attackers.
A wild chase by Iraqi police ensued, after which the British finally tried the diplomatic route and stopped. The Iraqis beat up the soldiers, dragged them to Basra prison, and posted their pictures on the Web. Other SAS operators, however, were able to trace their comrades back to the prison and informed senior command. Shortly thereafter, 20 more SAS soldiers from A Squadron 22nd SAS Regiment were flown in and moved to the prison, supported by paratroopers, mechanized infantry and tanks, which provided the outer ring of security. As a last attempt to resolve the matter diplomatically, the British sent 2 officers to the prison, but they were immediately captured as well. At the same time, the Iraqis moved the two SAS soldiers to a nearby safe house and prepared them for execution, but fortunately this was cleared up by a helicopter.
Although the British had little time left, the command wanted to call off the operation. But the angry forces on the ground did not see fit to abandon their comrades and spontaneously went on the offensive...
A brotherhood that no one else could ever understand.

Cuz I guarantee you if it was they’d have done everything they could to get them back. That’s the same with everybody. Nobody cares bro. If it isn’t family or maybe a close friend they won’t care about you. They may say they do. But they don’t.

@dconnielast There are certainly others that are on roughly the same level aside from Delta. The SAS counterpart SBS, DEVGRU, Canadian JTF2, Polish GROM etc. But 22 SAS are the originators for sure.

I read that they were actually apprehended by the Iraqi police, whilst sat in a car which was packed with explosives, and they were disguised and dressed as Arabs. This tells me they were likely there committing false-flag terrorist attacks, in order to sow chaos and sectarian discord in the country. This is how the western coalition forces roll when they invade other countries on false pretexts, in order to steal their natural resources. And guys like these two are unfortunately nothing more than useful tools in the hands of our corrupt western "leaders", and the bloodthirsty oligarchs who control them. This explains why the British and Americans went to such great lengths to spring them out of jail as soon as possible. Nothing to be proud of really, when you think about it.

@@ZJC1234 Our police officers wouldn't be aiding and abetting terrorists while in positions of authority, nor would they try and force people out of vehicles without just cause (and no, arguing isn't just cause) at a checkpoint. Its like you convieniently forgot that the British had already arrested a "police mastermind" earlier that week - why the f□ck would the Iraqi's care about diplomacy after that? (Especially considering "trying to talk themselves out of it" is already a form of diplomacy) Well for one, they didn't apparently considering they captured and didn't just arrest. And considering when diplomacy was used AGAIN - they captured those diplomats as well! I don't know of a tighter bond between two SF teams than the Brits and the Americans. All the guys I had the pleasure of dealing with across the pond were brave, professional, skillful and willing to help. Truly brothers in arms.

I've heard a couple of countries mentioned but none were the US. Usually Australia or Canada are the ones mentioned as having the tightest of bonds with the UK military. NZ gets the odd mention as well.

While I think most politician are scumbags, the move to not make a move and wait for things to die down is the right move. Remember these are soldiers and death is a risk they signed up for. The forceful attempt to rescue 2 lives can escalate quickly and results in more unnecessary conflicts leading to more deaths and Destructions. Those sas making a move before high command to rescue their comrades acted way out of line and make a mockery of being elite professional soldiers.

Their leaders didn’t answer the phone because no one wants to tell an SAS operative “no, you can’t rescue your brothers”. Props to Delta for offering their help but I’m not surprised by the offer 👍. To this who don’t know, Delta was originally created because of a televised SAS hostage rescue and trained by them. To my knowledge, they do joint exercises twice a year in both US and British territories

Another interesting fact about this is: the Royal Marine aircrewman in the back of the Seaking was the man who spotted the hostages being moved. He was monitoring the entire op from the Seaking using the onboard MX15 camera and quickly relayed the information to the operators on the ground, guiding them to the exact location the hostages had been moved to. His actions were paramount to the success of the operation as without his observations and diligence, the ground forces would not have known where the hostages had been moved. He was subsequently praised for his actions by the members of the SF and the hostages and was awarded the Queens Commendation for Valuable Service.

It was a Royal Navy Sea King but the commando assault version so probably manned by SF trained crew, they knew what to look for and guide the rescue team in.

After the rescue, safely back at base and with a cup of tea, I would love to have been a fly on the wall. I bet the ‘ribbing’ the two former hostages got from their colleagues, for being captured, would have made them wish this they were still in captivity! Brave, highly trained and intelligent guys…..probably one of the most exclusive ‘clubs’ in the world.

lmao these SAS soldiers are pathetic, just to be clear, these two SAS soldiers murdered 2 police officers and then fled the scene while being chased by Iraqi policemen. They then stopped, turned around and tried to talk their way out only to be kidnapped (how pathetic). Then the British command sent an ultimatum to the prison where they were being held and the two soldiers who delivered the ultimatum also got kidnapped. Its also pathetic how they had to use a shit ton of equipment against lightly armed militias and then breaking down the prison walls allowing prisoners to escape. pathetic and messy as well as unprofessional. they love to make it look like a clean and quick rescue operation when in reality it wasnt. no resistance was met anyways, the two SAS soldiers were just left in the room lmao

imagine going to a foreign country shoot at their police and then act like a victim. The two soldiers were arrested in civilian clothing driving a local car full of explosives, killing a local policeman as they attempted to flee. The Iraqi police that arrested them were not the enemy, they were the post-invasion police organized and empowered by the occupation forces.

@MrBursty55 Except the SAS were tracking a corrupt police chief and were about to hand over the information gathered on him to MI6 and the occupation forces, so he was not so lily-white. Do you honestly think they would have been able to follow him and gather the required information if they had been in uniform? And nowhere in the tale is the car full of explosives - that's just your supposition. They absolutely would not have wanted to shoot the policeman at the checkpoint because that makes their job infinitely more difficult but, considering they were investigating a corrupt police chief, how are they to know how far the corruption had spread? Any country that is attempting to put armed conflict and occupation behind it is going to have a lot of twitchy people with jumpy trigger-fingers, driven by fears, assumptions and bad memories. Not every person who survives armed conflict is pure as the driven snow, or behaved like an angel within the rule of law and the Geneva Conventions during the fighting. There are a lot of people who don't want their behaviour during that time unearthed, or to lose the power and belongings they acquired. The SAS were there to assist the Iraqis to get back on their feet and move forward, by helping them identify and remove the corrupt and selfish people who try to prevent this.

1:50 -- While in Iraq, at an Iraqi police checkpoint, SAS operators fired upon the local police officers, wounding two of them, to avoid being removed from their vehicle. Is shooting police officers generally considered illegal? Would that be legitimate grounds to arrest the SAS operators and jail them? Why is this framed as a kidnapping instead of an arrest? And why then is breaking a violent criminal out of jail considered "rescuing"? Can anyone explain what the Iraqi police SHOULD have done, in their own jurisdiction, in their own country, instead of something that is supposed here to be a "BAD IDEA"? What am I missing? If a foreigner shot American police at an American checkpoint in America, and ran away, wouldn't Americans arrest that person and imprison them on charges? It wouldn't be considered kidnapping a hostage when you jail someone in America for attempted murder. What am I missing?

Well funnily enough it was us British who invented the modern day Special Forces. We trained the Green Berets into superb soldiers during the Vietnam conflict after Charlie Beckwith had seen service as an exchange officer with 22 SAS in Malaya.

I presume you are referring to the 'rescue' of Benito Mussolini from Campo Imperatore where he had been imprisoned by Marshal Pietro Badoglio, who surrendered Italy to the allies! An SS officer rescues an Italian from house arrest in Italy guarded only by Italian soldiers...hardly Seal Team 6 material is it? The rat Skorzeny then fled to Argentina where he worked for Juan and Eva Peron! Of course during this time he also worked with Mossad, yes the Jewish secret service. As an ex-US Army soldier. One way or the other those men would come home safe to their friends and family. And I would have gone a little further and made sure that anyone else thinking about doing something like that again would think twice. Sometimes the non-military leaders just don't get it. At this level you are not fighting for your country you are fighting for your friends and family.

They train less relying on their natural abilities...not all but its a known issue, gotta work ot or lose it. you could always train on your own and still be dangerous if needed. Wont rise to the level of professional but refining skills and perfecting new ones will make a huge difference when it coubts

I'm a British army veteran (not special forces) and I know for a fact, we all protected each other. One day I was in a dangerous situation being threatened, but then soldiers from my unit were there and got me out safely.

First, the SAS know what they sign up for and know that being captured could mean their demise. With that out of the way, I can't see how the other SAS soldiers could have done anything different. They are taught to think independently, giving them the moral freedom to rescue their brothers under their terms, without the go ahead from command. Kudos to the brave acts that saved their brothers!

Never leave a brother behind - proper job guys!!👍 When David Stirling formed the SAS he wanted men who could operate autonomously - in the event of a CO falling in battle they carry on! If you know they are coming to knock on your door - you need to be 'away on vacation'!!!👍 to the US forces and DF who offered help - blood is a stronger bond than politics.
