This kid-friendly cooking video shows recipients of the Kids Cook Farm to School Meal Kits how to make “Three Sisters Soup” with local ingredients including Martin Farms butternut squash, Genesee Valley Bean Co. black beans, Big O Farms onions, McCollum Orchards garlic, and Russell Farms tomatoes. Lockport City School District is a recipient of the USDA Farm to School grant for the 2020-2021 school year.

Three Sisters Soup Recipe
INGREDIENTS
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 Tablespoons vegetable or olive oil
1.5 cups butternut squash, diced
1 .5 cups black beans, or 1 can
1.5 cups corn kernels
2 tomatoes, or 1 can diced tomatoes
2 teaspoons cumin
2 cubes chicken bouillon
4 cups water
DIRECTIONS
1. Dice onion and mince garlic.
2. Have your grown up place a large pot on stove and turn on medium heat.
3. Add oil, chopped onion and garlic and cook for 3-4 minutes.
4. Cut butternut squash into smaller pieces.
5. Add beans, corn, and squash to the onions and garlic. Add cumin and black pepper. Saute for 5 minutes.
6. Chop tomatoes and add to pot. Cook for a few more minutes.
7. Add bouillon and water. Simmer for 20 minutes or until squash is tender.
8. Ladle into bowls and serve with cornbread
