Faith's Homemaking

2 жыл бұрын

Did you enjoy watching my husband's bunk bed makeover? Check out more of his projects on his channel Davey Struggle here:
/ @daveystruggle
As our family grows, we found it hard to find some beds that would not take up all the floor space in our kid's room and look aesthetically pleasing.
After Faith was able to find some inspiration online, she presented her idea of building the beds ourselves one evening to myself.
The idea was brilliant, but the project would take the next few months to complete. Nevertheless, I would not let a challenge like this overwhelm me.
I accepted the project idea, and here is a timelapse for your viewing pleasure of the process. Fitting a few months-long project into a 10-minute video was also an incredible feat I'm very proud of. Enjoy.

Because they are building bunk beds for kids extra safety needs to be considered. The curtains would be a suffocation/strangulation hazard.

Amazing job! And for your boys to watch the whole process and even participate here and there is probably pretty impactful for them I imagine. Maybe one of them will be inspired to try wood working or carpentry later. Great trade skills to have even as just a hobby. Plus this is a cool memory of childhood to have. Well done, dad! 👏👏👏 AND the beds look great!

Very space efficient, looks great and well executed. Main concern is managing heavy mattresses/bed making and changing the linens for the upper bunks. There is also the issue of lighting for each child to read at night in a way that doesn’t wake the others.

Beds are for sleeping - desks/armchairs are for reading. Teaches good sleep habits to NOT read in bed. Expecially after lights out. If an older child has a later bedtime - it's not hard to slip into bed without waking sleepers.

There's lights on each but don't know if they have separate lights, can get battery reading lights . Mattresses aren't always that heavy and with fitted sheets, older children on top can do themselves

Heeeell no, not again! I remember I had beds like this and I didnt sleep in them with my siblings. Of course they wanted the top bunks and I was the youngest so I wouldve had to take the lower bunk but hell no I slept in the kitchen. I would never enter a bed that was held by the wall only!! And a few nights later when my brothers were together on one of the top bunks the bed came crashing down because the wall wasn't able to hold it and it almost crushed my dog underneath it! That would've been me. Everyone got beds on the floor when that happened.

Now tell these raw hump loving dummies if it screwed you up mentally not having personal space or boundaries having to share your room with a bunch of siblings. I don't think they don't get that their kids have needs while they enjoy themselves in their spacious master bedroom.

Built in bunk beds seems like a huge home value detractor. You can't move them, the room is just stuck with that unless you tear down and do demo. And then as kids grow, bunk beds suck to deal with. However I guess if you're constantly breeding you gotta put the bodies somewhere 🤷‍♀️
@Lillith.

I would recommend adding curtains. I had to sleep in the same room as my sister and she would always complain about my light because I was reading. So many unnecessary fights with an easy fix.

While the new one is alright... I kind of like the old one more. It had that real wood look (I don't know why is there war on wood and wood-like texture and colours) and the curved boards which I really like. I actually wish I could add those on my very boring mid-century modern bed. However I hope there will be some videos where bland minimalist cabinet gets mouldings or something like that.

The mattresses look so light weight with a ladder they can come down to floor level and changed. Also, kids up on top should be old enough to maneuver that bendable mattress to put sheets on and smooth a guilt. My SIL gave her boys sleeping bags that were used on top of the fitted sheet. Easy to roll up and wash. Every few years as they outgrew the character she got them new ones. Cost $20 each, used for 2-4 years before replacing.

Tutto molto bello e ben fatto, davvero molti complimenti!
