This falls completely on the part of the PARENTS. It is NOT a parent's job to give their children what they want. It is a parent's job to give their kids what they need, which are the tools and resources necessary to be a productive, hard-working, independent, responsible, law-abiding member of society. A phone is a privilege, not a right.

I got my 1st cell phone when I was in the 8th grade, but it wasn't a smart phone. I'm in my 20s now and feel that for high schoolers a cell phone is a necessity, but for middle schoolers it's a luxury.

It’s so disturbing in a way how many “young children/teens” are addicted to their phones or social media postings. The fact that a lot of the parents nowadays aren’t even enforcing structure, if social media disappeared what would these teens/children even adults do. 😐😑😐 I’m grateful to grow up in an era where social media, cellular phones were not a thing it’s super bizarre nowadays.😐 Parents need to be and do better.

Harsh reality for today's kids, and adults. I have been cutting back on social media, and Trying to live without it. Picking up a physical Book, going to coffee shop and not use my phone. What did I do before I was plugged in?

I had a cell phone when I was 16 I'm 36 now.....all we had was MySpace. I think the social media of today is so mind altering...I feel bad for kids today. It's a distorted reality, bullying, comparison, as well as a flawed view of the real world and the value of real work....they think making videos is a fool proof career and way to get rich instead of working a real job. Everyone is trying to monetize everything. Their family, their wedding, the birth of their kids, death, illness. Nothing is authentic anymore. Everything has to be recorded and posted and sponsored. I'm sick of it

I think kids should wait until they're 15 or 16 to have a smart phone or use social media. Similar to getting your driver's license or being able to vote.

My conciousness is a powerful thing. About 5 years ago, my social media activities dropped dramatically. I hardly post anymore, I’ll occasionally sign into Facebook and Twitter and scroll through for maybe 30 minutes, then get off. Instagram is probably the worst one, I don’t even know why I have the app on my phone, but the narcissism on it definitely chased me away. Never got the sense of SnapChat, probably used it once. But just like Tony, I am approaching 40’s.

Same here. Obviously I'm on KZfaq but I've 90% disengaged with social media over the past 5 years or so. There's some good stuff to be gleaned, but it's mostly a constant stream of outrage, ego, and toxicity. It's always telling you what you need to be angry, scared, or jealous about. I have a 6 year old and I only give him screen time as a treat if he does his chores and behaves, to play educational games on the weekend, or to video chat with family. Not to be judgmental but I see friends who don't eat dinner as a family and use the iPad or whatever as a pacifier; their kid is only 5 and I can already see the negative effect on his social, emotional, and language skills. I thought people were getting wiser about these things, but I guess not everyone. Ironically, I think it's the people who are the most into tech who are the most strict on their kids. Whereas people who didn't grow up with these toys want their kids to have things they didn't.

My heart broke for this 8 year old kid 😢 saying it felt like slavery all over again. He needs to be shielded from all this violence going on in the world. 🌎 I’m glad he’s hyper aware but I also feel like he’s growing up too quickly. I’m very impressed with the intelligence of this kids, they seem very aware, much more than I thought they be.

I'm adult and most of the time I'm aware of myself but I still get insecure when I see some lifes in social media. I compare my life, mainly when I cannot get something that I want a lot. Now we can imagine a teens or kids, if they don't have someone with who has a conversations like like that we watched on this video, the social media are horrible for them and very dangerous.

Smartphones are like drugs these days. They're so darn addictive. This is why many of these kids today won't learn as well in classrooms because they're hooked onto these devices. At the same time, the classrooms don't even teach the kids what they should know compared to what the school curriculums are required to teach them.

I’m glad I was born before the internet. I think comparison can brood envy and rage. As an adult now during pandemic I have cut off all the. Noise. I logged off of fb, dating apps, and Instagram. I don’t post. I have a little fOMO. But I figure if it’s important someone will tell me! And if I missed it and I’m Ok then I didn’t need it anyway. Mentally I feel so so much better… I recently heard glennon Doyle say preoccupation leads us to not be bored. But then we don’t become curious, explore, play, or create! The internet dulls a child’s ability to be creative!!

The children today are so spoil! Including my grandchildren. What do they think we did when we were their age? In other countries education comes first! Yet they wonder why people that come here from other countries get hired for jobs, before us! Education should also be on their minds!! It's up to the parents to show them what's comes first!!

Hm. I get nervous about not having my phone because of needing it in an emergency. Sometimes I will leave the house without it but not for long periods just incase of an emergency. I also like having my ad free music with me. I don't really watch ads unless I am forced to. On youtube I pay money not to see them. Same thing with music. Also, if there were an emergency how easily could you ask someone to call 911 for you? Some people don't want to get involved. I did not get a cellphone until I was a freshman in High School. It was one of those nokia brick analog phones. I am mid thirties.

Why do they keep lying about the time they spend on the phone! 📱 it’s literally 8 to 9 hours a day, you really think they care about anything else when they get out of school? It’s clearly not 1.5 hours a day, they are totally Joshing you with that number 😂

When I have children, they will not have a phone until they are adults. I will not participate in this toxic culture of my kids looking at stuff that they shouldn’t be just to fit in. Kids shouldn’t be into social media, but they can learn painting, instruments, cultural hobbies like “wood working”, sports, learning and growing. Children are addicted to social media (which is anti-social actually because they don’t actually learn social skills and how to connect and nurture friendships) and there’s more to life.
