HAWAIʻI ISLAND - On Sunday at 3:15 p.m. HST, following weeks of elevated unrest, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory says new lava began erupting in the Kīlauea summit crater, as well as on the down-dropped block to the east of the summit caldera.

Back in the day while bicycle touring the Hawaiian Islands, I had the opportunity to visit the Kilauea volcano while it was erupting. It wasn't the spectacular spewing eruption, but just small ribbons of lava flowing down the slope toward the sea. You could walk right up to it over a crust of cracked lava which was still glowing red hot just a few inches from the surface. Awesome experience.

I walked Black Sand Beach after the flow. Went to the ocean and turned around. I was so far away, I almost didn't find my way back. I Thank God.😊

Volcanic earthquakes caused by magma movement are usually low magnitude. Most of the time you can't feel them.

It is actually in the video, it's just that the Volcano Cam was swinging back and forth at that time. As for links, you can see it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qqiYYL2ZrqiVfp8.html the USGS still has their livefeed on, but you may have to go all the way back to see it happen

If you time the falling lava from the peak of its flight through the air, the time it takes to get back to the surface tells you about how high it got. Looks to me like the biggest fountain was pushing lava ~200 meters into the air. D=

There are 45 active volcanoes in the world, and humans are not in charge of weather or tectonic plate shifting and under ocean thermal plumes which all impact the weather...this volcano which ive seen over the decades is a prime example dont upset Pele

We were there in 2010 awesome to see how big the crater was then, driving down Chain of Craters Rd we saw law flows but most were quite a distance off. Still cool to see in the night.
