🐝 KNOWING YOUR ENEMY and its behavior is half the battle.
In this video I will show you what the enemy looks like, their behavior and teach you how to get rid of them Quick & Easy & KILL Any Newcomers & keep them from coming back.
There are over 500 species of Carpenter Bee worldwide.
They are found in the U.S. south land from Arizona to Florida and up the eastern coast to NY
They have strong holds in some parts of Canada as well.
They are in great numbers in tropical climates.
DAMAGE:
The most vulnerable wood is softer pine, cedar, Cyprus and redwoods
Painted woods are less vulnerable than exposed weathered wood.
Stained wood offers little protection.
Areas of attack usually include but is not limited to:
Windowsills, patio furniture, playground structures, decks, fences, doors, eaves, barns, farm structures, generally, anywhere soft wood of about 1 inch thick that can be accessed by these flying chainsaws.
Woodpeckers love to eat the larvae and are attracted to the nest chambers and will cause further destruction tearing up the wood to get to the larvae which they can hear chewing at the wood from the inside.
For more information on Pyrethrins and Permethrin II, Watch all of my other videos listed below.
PERMETHRIN MIXING INSTRUCTIONS FOR AROUND THE HOUSE, TRAVEL & CAMPING
I mix 10% permethrin emulsifiable concentrate in these ratios.
It kills fast and is mostly water, deadly to insects wet or dry, and when it dries it’s still deadly for up to 90 days:
1½ oz (abt 3Tbsp) per gallon (128oz) container
2 tsp per (32oz) quart spray bottle
1 tsp per 10-16oz bottle
½ tsp per 8oz spray bottle
¼ tsp per 4oz spray bottle.
Which leaves the final ratio of permethrin at 0.0103125% dilution rate or 1% permethrin.
Enough to kill invertebrates (insects) quickly but not a high enough concentration to affect mammals.
Permethrin or Permectrin II is a man made water soluble oil identical to natural Pyrethrins that can be mixed in water or oil bases.

I was working on the Triple W Ranch in Texas back in 1989. Was waiting at the corral for the south pasture cattle being herded up to me. I was to keep them from turning west. There was a carpenter bee guarding the hole in the wall of the tack-room to my right. He was just hovering there chasing off any yellow jacket or wasp that got too close. All of a sudden, a hummingbird swooped down and tapped him on the head, then flew straight up. That hummer was having fun messing with that bee, swooping down so fast and tapping the bee and then flying about six feet above and watching the bee look around to see who just tapped him. 😂😆 I watched that hummer mess with that bee for about 20 minutes until the cattle arrived and I had to get to work.

Last Summer while fireforming brass rifle cases to fit the chamber of my French model 1874 Gras 11m/ m rifle, I was using light charges of smokeless powder topped with a small wad of tissue paper and finishing by filling the case to it's mouth with corn meal. Another small wad of tissue keeps the corn meal in place. In order to multi task, I fired my rifle at the carpenter bees that were destroying my porch rafters. The corn meal shreds the bees at a distance of up to 8 feet. No damage to my siding, rafters, or windows. I don't know of anyone else who can honestly say they have killed bees with a 142 plus year old French army rifle. Offbeat but fun!

Thank You!!! I watched your video, found 13.3% permethrin, mixed per instructions (aprox 1oz per gallon). Started spraying in the holes and the surfaces. 30 minutes later I just checked and there are 6 carpenter bees on the ground! And they weren't even flying around today. I found Martin's Permethrin 13.3% 1 quart bottle at Tractor Supply for about $22. I used a 1 gallon walmart pump sprayer, tightened the tip for a fine spray. Anyone using it just make sure to read the instructions, it kills different things the more you dilute it. It does not say on the bottle that it kills bees and wasps, but rest assured it does. Thank you Cougar Ridge Ranch for the video, it helped a lot!

I have a log cabin in Tennessee and two years ago these little bastards found my house. I and my family easily swatted 400-500 of these out of the air, killing them. We used portable vacuums, everything. Last year I went around and pumped diatamaceous earth into all their holes that I could find and this spring all I'm finding are dead ones on the ground. Your video is excellent and the most comprehensive I've found anywhere. I've used some of your other techniques with great success and will try this as well. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

They are also called orchard bees. They were the prime pollinator in North America until the European honey bee was introduced. They are perfectly adapted to the harsher climates of the north and aren't prone to the diseases that honey bees are. Farmers are learning that it is easy to live with the orchard bee in our area primarily grapes for wine production along with row crops. Just make habitats for them by taking a piece of pine, drilling 1/2 inch or so holes about a 1/2 inch deep, and nailing them up in the areas where you need pollinators. They will take these little condos and not destroy the building. It's a win-win. Just a thought.

I used a redwood stain on my deck, and I stained the underside of the upper deck. Sometime later, we got hit by carpenter bees. I thought they were just bumble bees flying around and mating in front of my front porch. We weren't using the lower deck much at that time, so I did not notice what the carpenter bees were doing to the underside of the top deck. Some time later, I found that they had been nibbling shallow circles in the wood. The entire underside was covered with these small white circles. But, apparently (and gratefully) they did not like the taste of the stain, as they didn't make any tunnels there. I did find one deep tunnel in the side of a wood rail on the stairs, but there was only one and no other signs of activity. I replaced the wood and we've never seen them again. I will keep this tip in mind, however if they ever come back.

Here in Eastern Ohio the bore bees even chew holes into the standard treated lumber and also the creosoted telephone phones we used to build our pole barn. Doesnt seem to effect them! We wanted our pole barn stained anyways and so we tried mixing 1 gallon of diesel fuel to 5 gallons of used motor oil ( that we get in 55gal drums from our local service garages ) and then only stained half of the pole barn. So far the bore bees will not touched the stained areas. Now that we're in our Spring weather again, gotta get back to staining the rest of the pole barn. Good luck everyone :)

I think D Foam is Delta Dust, a brand of permethrin-based dust insecticide, same as what is used in this video mixed with water. I used the dust to get rid of an infestation of carpenter bees in a pole building. Just used a puffer to get the dust in every hole and both the adult and the larvae, when they grew to adulthood and exited the hole, were contaminated with the permethrin dust and died.

You can use new motor oil as well. 5 gal jug at Rual king, 10w40 was $33. Just mix it with diesel in a sprayer.

We had a terrible problem with these bees in Delaware around our wood fence and above-ground pool deck. Two years ago I started using insect sticky traps (from Amazon)... They catch dozens of them (and flies, gnats etc.)... I put the traps out again last year and caught less (because there were less). I'll put them out again in April/May.

My method in South Carolina is to spray in the hole with WD-40, like a lot. Wait for the 'queen' to fly out and die, then seal the hole with Liquid Nails caulking. WD-40 takes em out pretty quick. For some reason Balistol doesn't phase them at all.

LOL - I just finished putting up my 4 bee traps 2 days ago. I wish I had watched this video first and added the attractant mix that you showed. I usually kill 100+ bees each year. I have aluminum soffits and they go in between the pieces and nest. I've tried chemicals but it does not keep them out. I might try the one you suggested and see i it helps, but I can only spray on the aluminum unless I tried removing the soffits. I also have fun swatting them with my tennis racquet. However, they have learned to fly/hover just out of my reach.
@CaptainWingnut
@CaptainWingnut 2 жыл бұрын
If you spray it on the aluminum and it dries, it will still kill them if they land on it for 28 days up to 90 as long as it doesn’t get washed off. When we go to Hawaii, we spray this across the threshold under the door. It dries in minutes BUT, every cockroach that crawls in under the door only makes it about 12-15” before they’re belly up.

You totally should do the vacuum method of getting rid of any bug that comes in your home. I tried it and it works. What you do is empty the container then kill them by having them spinning in the container until they break up in pieces. FYI this isn’t exactly humane, but if you don’t like bugs in the house then this is the way to go. Plus it’s better than using chemicals when it comes to getting rid of them in the house. Obviously chemicals only should be used outside when being used for getting rid of bugs.

The females DO and CAN sting and as for pollinators, they’re in the same category as flies and wasps, occasional while honeybees are in the category of constant pollinators. Carpenter bees only occasionally pollinate while they eat. They don’t harvest, they don’t create excess. They just destroy.

@@CaptainWingnut Not true man. I agree that that they can sting but as for pollenators - they are the greatest. Just one carpenter bee can pollenate as much as ten or hundreds of normal bees. There are four cherry trees, one apple and one apricot trees in our area and they live and grow drupes only because of the carpenter bees. And I didn't mention the flowers... Also the carpenter bees don't just eat. They behave like normal bees - eat, collect pollen, make their nest, make rooms out of pollen and leave some nectar balls to their larvae. Yeah, these little bastards chew the trees like mad but it is the only bad thing they do. Also if you have hands from the right place, you can make a "bee hotel" rather than spending your money on the chemicals. Yes, as you said, it would make their population larger, but they are endangered and I don't think it is a bad thing.

I am in Jackson Michigan and there are no bugs…& the little early spring- frogs ,came out ,& needed food… ? But there is nothing flying… The early spring bugs have Died off… Thus, the frogs eat each other, and fall silent: Once they laid their eggs… Back In my childhood- I visited Michigan, Often, .. in the late 60s early 70s and there was massive clouds of bugs …and now there are nothing.. I sincerely believe this is what a result of all the chemtrails. I wish some entomologist could begin to make clusters of ready to hatch larval bug eggs… And they’re hatching time is correct to feed them…& Able to feed- the early peepers… that could be place near these tree frog habitats- and allow them to get fed…Otherwise they will fall extinct… Yes it is nice not to have the clouds of critters clogging up our radiators -and smearing all over our windshields… but our environment is being attacked badly and we need to help it to restore

So you show the bottles of Permethrin as the stuff you use and normally contains petroleum distillates. Permethrin is a toxic insecticide and not natural but as long as you use it as directed for the use you plan on it won’t harm good insects . I’m just clarifying because you said natural in the video (but Pyrethrin are natural not to be confused with Permethrin ) Thanks for the video because I’m in Maine and have been dealing with these pests for a few years they just showed up.
